Chapter 29
+ + + + LUCY + + + +
Why am I so impulsive? I shouldn't ask that. It's clear that Harry will not answer me...
I looked him straight in the eyes, I finally feel a little braver but still I have few guts. His green eyes are blank and stare at me almost without a blink.
Harry ran one of his hands through his hair and then let out a long sigh.
"Why do you care?" He finally speaks. My heart is beating again, I thought he would scream or just go away.
"I can't be curious?" I asked in a low tone and he shook his head. "It's a problem that involves me Harry."
"You're being so exaggerated," He rolls his eyes.
He will not respond. I want to hit myself; I will not get anywhere trying to talk about this.
"Okay Harry," I sighed, losing the motivation. "I'm going," I said before starting to walk as far as I can from him.
"Alright!" He screamed and I shivered. " I don't need you anyway!"
Need?
I stop immediately when I hear that word in my ears. Need, that sounds so sweet.
Not realizing my actions I'm back in front of Harry looking at him with my eyes flooded of surprise and curiosity.
"Wh-what?," I asked almost perplexed. "Need?"
"Oh, here we go again," he growled as he threw his hand in his pocket. "See? You're exaggerating it. "
My surprise fades as I realized the stupid thing I asked. I cannot believe I have returned for this, just because he said the word need. I'm so pathetic; maybe Harry is right I'm exaggerating everything.
"Yes, you're right," I sighed and tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. "I'm still mad at you Harry," I whispered and frowned, "and I can't understand why you're angry. You have no right; well I don't see the point...to us to be with friends."
"Why not?" He asked immediately.
"Because..." I trailed off trying to find an excuse but none came to mind. "I do-don't know, there's just no reason to be. We don't share things in common and live in completely different worlds. "
"That's discrimination," he growls.
"Sorry but...," I frowned, frustrated by his actions. "I don't see why you want to be my friend or want to share with me; it makes no sense at all."
"Bullshit Lucy, can we go? I can-"
"No, thanks." I said softly. I would not let him win this time, I don't want to share with Harry and I would do everything possible to stay away from him.
"You're so stubborn, what is your fucking problem?" He says with his jaw tense.
What is my problem!? Is he kidding!? Urg, I don't, really I don't want to but I'm about to explode.
"My problem?" I growled, "My problem is you!" I complained and I pushed him irritated. Harry just takes a few steps back, why he has to be so strong?
Furious I approached to push him but Harry stopped me, he grabs my wrists.
"Let me go," I grumbled when I crashed against his chest. I raised my face towards him and I frozen as my eyes met his.
"Can you calm down?" He whispered. "We are in the street," he smiled and my heart stopped. "You are like a beast you know?, don't you think you have anger issues Lucy?."
He put a hand on my cheek, his fingers slips until he stops on my lips.
His touch burns against my skin and I think I'll have a heart attack, can't believe we're in this position. No, I cannot allow that.
"Har-Harry let me go," I whispered through clenched teeth. He let me go easily and I take a few steps back. "Don-don't do that again." I stammered nervously.
I cannot believe what he said, anger problems? Me? No, of course not. If someone has serious problems with anger here is Harry.
"I haven't done anything," He smiled and raised his arms like he was innocent.
"Ju-just don't talk to me," I said before I start walking. Now is the time and there is no sense to stay here. I need to go.
"Anyway you kissed me!" He yelled and I felt chills. Why he said that? That was childish.
I embraced myself and kept walking.
I tried to find answers but I didn't get anywhere. Talking to him is a waste of time. Why he didn't answer? Was it too much to ask?
I shook my head and I bit my lip. I have never been so frustrated in my life. What just happened? Why he is like that?
I wiped a tear, why I am so sensitive? What is he doing to me?
And I keep asking questions that I can't even respond. I don't like this, this is all his fault. He is so...urg, I have no words, but the only conclusion I can reach is that Harry Styles is not good for me.
+ + + + + + +
It's 9pm, I have less than 24 hours for tomorrow, I'm so nervous. We have to win, we have to. We have worked a lot with Marcel and neither of us wants to lose.
I pushed my thoughts and I combed my hair. It's Friday and I'm waiting for Cassie. We're going out to a surprise place to relax today, I hope it's fun.
"Lucy, Cassie the fat ass is here!" I heard Madison.
"I'm not fat!" Cassie replied. I rolled my eyes, grabbed my bag and I went downstairs. "You cannot go dressed like that Lucy," Cassie said as soon as she sees me.
"Why?" I groaned, "What's wrong?" I was using my typical jeans and a long shirt.
"I don't like your shirt is like Hawaiian with those flowers and I don't like those pants Lucy," Cassie scolds me.
"I feel comfortable in it, I'm going to change it," I narrowed my eyebrows.
Cassie rolled her eyes and nodded. "Okay, let's go," She said walking to the door.
I followed her to her car and we both climbed.
"Where are we going?" I asked as Cassie drives.
"It's a surprise," Cassie said without looking at me.
"Thanks for this, I need to relax," I sighed.
"Yes, you look tense," Cassie shrugged.
We listen to music, Cassie drove for about 15 minutes and finally parked her car.
I see through the window and I bite my lower lip. We are in front of a bar, painted black with a neon sign that says "Insanity".
"What is this?" I asked confused.
"A bar," Cassie said with a slight smile. "Come on," She said getting out of the car.
What are we doing here? I cannot believe it. This is the last place I thought Cassie would bring me.
I jump when Cassie opens my door. "Come on, come on." She says enthusiastically.
I got out the car clumsily, unsure and scared. I am far from my common habitat. These places always make me feel out of the world.
My eyes stop at the entrance of the bar; there are some people in a line waiting to enter. Guys dressed in black with ripped pants and girls wearing tank tops or dresses. Most of them have tattoos and some have their hair with different colors.
I look at my clothes and then back at them. I don't belong here. The nerves start to run through my veins. Can I run away?
"Lucy, come on," Cassie screamed from the line. I never realized that she had walked in there.
I shook my head and walked toward her. Cassie is wearing a black dress and low heels. Her clothing is too much just for going out with friends, it was obvious we were coming here, how I didn't realize?
Stupid Lucy, I thought as I hit my forehead with the palm of my hand.
"Hi girls," The guard greets us and extends his hands to us.
"We're friends of Liam Payne," Cassie said with a smile. What? Liam Payne?
"Are you Cassie?" She nods and the guard opens the door. "Have fun girls." He says when we entered.
The sound of music hits my ears and lighting changes abruptly by different flashing lights of different colors. There are a lot people here, I can see them everywhere, sitting on the bar, dancing and sitting on tables. Too many people make me anxious, besides heat and the smell of alcohol quickly invades me. All these overwhelming feelings hit me in one second, oh god, how I hate this, how I this place.
"Come on Lucy!" Cassie said over the music and she grabbed my hand. She leads me until we stopped at a table. They are people of our high school, the other boys from the football team with their girlfriends. I see Matt, Ryan and next to him Marcel and-Wait, what?
"Marcel!?" I almost screamed approaching him.
"He-hey Lucy," He smiled and took a sip from his glass that contains a liquid with different colors, green, yellow and red.
"What is that Marcel? What are you doing here? "I asked looking at him with my eyes wide open.
"This is Machu Picchu," He pointed to his glass, "and I ca-came here to relax."
Relax? Here? This is not the Marcel that I know, his concept of relax is to stay home and play on the Xbox and order pizza, like we used to do in old times. What happened to that? I miss those days when I used to go to his house.
"Who invited you?"
"Ouch, that hurts." He pouted. Marcel? Pouting? No, no, this is not right. "Cassie invited me I di-didn't wa-want to come but Ryan forced me."
"Did I hear my name?" Ryan says peeking behind Marcel.
I hold my breath when I see him. He looks handsome today. His blonde hair is messy; he is wearing a black blouse and a jeans jacket. Oh, wow. I don't need anyone to tell me that he has more style than me.
"Hi Ryan," I said with a slight smile.
"I'm glad you came Lucy," Ryan smirked. "Want a drink?" I shook my head. "Want to dance?" I shook my head again, "You wanna do something?" He laughed and I shook my head again.
"What the hell is wrong with you Lucy?" Marcel groaned and he took another sip from his glass.
"Can we talk Marcel?" I asked grabbing his arm.
"No, no we ca-Hey!" Marcel growled when I started to drag him against his will. "Since when you have such strength?" He asked trying to walk stumbling with his own feet.
"Gi-give me that," I said and I tried to snatch his glass but Marcel was faster and dodged my movement.
"Don't you da-dare," He said before returning to drink with the straw in his glass. "What happened Lucy?"
"Let's get out of here," I told him almost begging.
"What? Why? "He asked confused.
"I don't want to be here Marcel. I thought I was going to eat pizza or go to Cassie's house. "I sighed in frustration," I can't believe Cassie has brought me here, I bet she did this just to be with Matt. "
"Don't be such a party po-pooper Lucy," Marcel frowned. "I'm having fun, you can too don't you think?"
But what is happening to him? All this is because of alcohol, who forced him to drink?
"Could you stop drinking?" I groaned and he shook his head.
"It's part of my social experiment." He replied.
"You are going to have a hangover and tomorrow you'll not be fine for the competition."
"Fuck the competition!" Marcel almost yelled at me and I stepped back. He laughed at my reaction and drank the rest of his glass. "I want more," He looks at me with a pout.
"I will not buy you-"
"Lucinda Fray!" I heard a cheerful voice from behind my back.
Who could know me here?
I turn to watch a tall, tan and broad-shouldered guy. His face looks familiar, I've seen somewhere.
"Hello?" I asked without recognizing him.
"Don't you remember me?" I refused, "Taylor, friend of Harry," He said before taking the cigarette to his mouth.
Oh, Taylor, now I remember, I met him at Matt's party. I can't believe he remembers me.
"You can't smo-smoke inside," I said a little scared. If someone sees us, security will kick us out.
"Oh, I can do it, because I'm fucking own this place." He smiled and blew the smoke directly to my face. I coughed and I shook my hand to disperse the fume.
"You? But you look so young. "I said confused.
"I have 25 years old," he respond and exhaled the smoke in my face. I coughed when the toxic fume entered my nostrils.
"Co-could you stop doing that?" I inquired in a low tone. To be honest I was quite intimidated for Taylor. I feel a bad vibe now that I am around him.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Oh, I'm with...." I cut the sentence when I see that Marcel is not behind me. I search my friend and I find him sitting at the bar chatting with a guy. "I'm with a fri-friend," I said pointing to Marcel, he was a few feet from us.
"That nerd? What the fuck is he doing here?" Taylor laughs. Like me Marcel looks completely out of place with his navy blue sweater and brown pants fabric.
I prefer to stay silent because that is the way they treat us, I'm used to and I don't want to contradict or say something because there is something that tells me that is not a good idea.
"Ahm, yes." I nodded.
"Ashton!" Taylor shouted and the boy that is talking to Marcel raised his gaze. "Give him the to the nerd whatever he wants!" Taylor pointed to Marcel and 'Ashton' nodded.
"Oh, don't think it's a good idea," I said looking at Taylor. "He doesn't drink too much, I better go with him," I said turning around but a hand grabbed my wrist and stopped me.
"I haven't told you to go," Taylor grunted and I looked at him scared. His hand is cold and his grip is hard. "I need to ask you something."
"Okay," I nodded and he released me.
"How are things with Harry?" I feel chills when I hear his name but I don't understand why he is asking this. Why would he want to know about us?
"Ahm, we are okay?" Taylor raised an eyebrow waiting for a more specific answer. "I don't really know, we haven't talked and we are a little distant." I don't know why I give explanations to Taylor but it is better to respond, he scares me.
"Um, I understand. Teenagers."Taylor rolled his eyes at the last word and then focused his eyes over my shoulder. "Speaking of the king of Rome," Taylor smiled wicked and I turned to know what he was watching.
My eyes immediately found what Taylor is looking. Harry is sitting several tables away from us, with his friends and next to him there is a blonde girl.
I shouldn't but I feel warmth and an unpleasant feeling through my body.
"Do you like him Lucy?" Taylor inquired behind me and I feel chills but I shake my head. "I don't believe you," he whispers.
The girl whispers something in Harry's ear, he looks at her and she smiles in a flirty way. She is really beautiful, how could I compete? I couldn't, simple as that. I'm not up to someone like her. The blonde leans to Harry as if she is going to kiss him but he turns his head. My heart leaps for joy, what was that?
She frowns as she says something to Harry. He doesn't answer and she finally gets up and leaves.
"I know you like him, you almost blow smoke from your ears," Taylor says.
"I don-don't like him." I lied and I wanted to slap myself for lying when I should be telling the truth, when I should say that I don't like Harry.
"I know Harry, he didn't like that girl, he quickly replaces them and maybe he should be already looking for another." Taylor says and I can feel his smile. I don't like his words, why is he saying this?
I'm about to say something but I stop when Harry's eyes meet mine. He blinks a few times surprised, maybe he doesn't believe I'm here, and then he frowns. Harry quickly stands up and walks towards us with determination.
No, no, no, no. I repeated to myself with my heart beating so fast.
"Lucy...What are you doing here?" He asks with his gaze on me. I look down at my feet, intimidated for his emerald eyes.
"She is having fun with me Harry," Taylor answered for me. What? Of course not.
"I don't think so," Harry said annoyed. "I need to talk to you Taylor." The look that Harry dedicates to Taylor is not very friendly, what is happening? I thought they were friends.
"Whatever," Taylor said and I jumped when I felt something hot penetrate a small spot on my arm.
"Aaarg!" I moaned and then I looked at my arm to find a surprise. "You bur-burned me." I said puzzled looking at the red circle on my arm that represents a cigarette burn.
"Oh, my bad, sorry." Taylor apologized before leaving. I didn't feel that his apology was honest.
"Fucking idiot," Harry cursed seeing him leave. "Lucy, it hurts you too much or what?" He asked softly grabbing my arm.
I will not say anything but it's a silly question, of course it hurts. I have pain receptors in my skin.
"I'd be lying if I said no," I groaned feeling the throbbing pain in my arm. I never thought a cigar burn ache so much.
"Let's go to the bathroom," He ordered me and before I can protest Harry grabs my hand and starts to drag somewhere.
Despite of the fact that I'm tripping over my feet as I try to keep pace with his steps my mind is focused on one thing. He is holding my hand; this is the first time a guy holds my hand. It feels different intertwining my fingers with his; his hand is big but still fits in my small hand.
"Clean it with cold water," Harry said, stopping in front of a door with the sign-female," and I'll go get some ice." And with that Harry released my hand and lost in the crowd.
I knocked but there is no answer, I guess there is no one. I move the handle and entered the bathroom. I wash my arm with care, it still burns but the icy water alleviates the pain.
"I brought you this," I almost jumped when I heard Harry. He enters the bathroom and locks the door. Oh my god, I'm stuck with Harry Styles. I swallow and I divert my eyes toward my hands.
"Tha-thank you," I muttered and he handed me a small plastic bag with ice. We stay in silence while I let my skin numb by the effect of the ice.
"Are you still angry?" Harry's voice breaks the silence.
Really? It's only been one day; of course I'm angry though my actions don't show it because I am in a bathroom alone with Harry.
"Of course I..." I shut my mouth immediately when I look up at him.
Harry is leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. He looks so handsome that my heart hurts. Tight pants, a gray blouse that has a special cut that allows to see a lit bit of his tattoos and some boots.
He looks perfect, is that legal?
"So?" He smirks and his emerald eyes sparkle.
I swallowed and tried to speak but I couldn't. My God, I need to get out of here.
"Cat got your tongue?" He asks and I shake my head but I don't talk, "What happened?" He asks confused and after a few seconds his face lights up with the answer, "Are you nervous?" Harry twisted his lips into a smile and is the most flirtatious smile anyone has ever given me.
"Of-of course not," I finally managed to speak but my voice just didn't sound like I wanted.
"Lucy is just me," Harry said approaching to me and I can't back away, "Don't be nervous." He smirks and rests one hand on my cheek.
No, no, no.
"If you say something it would be great instead of looking at me with your big brown eyes," He jokes and I feel my heart melts. The smell of his scent and alcohol invades me but it doesn't bother me.
His proximity overwhelms me, I can't handle this pressure. I look down to his lips and feel a heat running through my body. Our kiss scene is repeated in my mind. I wish I could kiss him again but that wouldn't be fine, he's just playing with me.
I raise my eyes to Harry and his emerald eyes are shining strongly. Oh my god.
"Cou-could you give me space?" I managed to say.
"Is a no for me," Harry raised an eyebrow and leans toward me. WHAT! WHAT IS DOING?!? NO, HELP!
My heart stops when his nose touches mine. I can't allow this but I can't move, my body will not let me. But who am I kidding? I don't want to get away from him.
"I don't want to stay away from you," he whispered before pressing his lips against mine.
"Anybody there?" We heard a scream from outside and I quickly take a few steps back tripping over my own feet but I manage to keep the balance.
"Ye-yes, sorry," I say as I walk toward the door. "I'm so-sorry," I said to the girl when I opened the door.
"Were you two having sex or what?" She growls looking at me and then laying her eyes on Harry.
"Let's go," Harry demands and holds my hand and drags me out of there.
"Where are we going?" I asked puzzled. Harry stops and looks at me. I look away without being able to look at him. What was I about to do? I almost let him kiss me again; I cannot believe how stupid I am.
"Are you here alone?" Harry inquires with a stern voice and I shake my head.
"I ca-came with Cassie and Mar-Marcel," I said, feeling like a little girl.
"My cousin?" Harry laughs and I melt inside. One of the things I like about him is his laugh, is so adorable. "But what a surprise, and where is he?"
"At the bar.." I replied and he nodded. He gestured with his head and we started walking toward the bar. He hasn't released my hand but it doesn't bother me at all.
As we walk a thought burst into my mind. I can't be so bipolar, I complain about Harry and I am also following his footsteps. I'm mad at him, I said I'd stay away and a few seconds ago I was about to kiss him and now we walk holding hands. Urg.
"Hello Harry!" Marcel's cheerful voice breaks into my ears. He greets us with one hand and with the other he has a glass. Is he still drinking? Oh no, this will not end well.
"Are you drinking?" Harry asks surprised and Marcel nods. "It was about time cousin, now you are a Styles," Harry smiled. Marcel nods again before taking a sip of his drink. My friend looks at us and his eyes fall to our hands.
"What does that mean?" Marcel almost screamed with eyes wide open. He points at our hands. I try to let go of Harry's grip but he grabs my hand tightly.
"No, no-nothing,"
"What is the problem with this?" Harry raised an eyebrow.
"Oh well it's... it's just that she is Lu-Lucy and you're Harry, I just... this can't be happening." Marcel says perplexed.
"Harry Styles," We heard a deep voice behind us.
I turn on my heel and I almost screamed. Is the man who followed me, it's the redhead.
"What do you want?" Harry growled.
"Taylor is waiting for you; don't you want to talk to him?" The redhead replied blankly.
Harry nods and turns to me, "Stay here with Marcel, okay? Or go with Cassie or if you see one of my friends, stay with them, okay? "I just nodded scared for the presence of the red hair. "I'll be back in a while," Harry tells me as he lets go my hand. "Stay away from her," Harry growled defiantly staring at the redhead.
Harry starts to walk, the redhead winks at me and then follows him. Both leaves and get lost in the crowd. I look as Harry walks away with this man gave me a bad feeling, something awful is going to happen I can feel it and I'm scared.
