+ + + + + LUCY + + + + +
When I finished doing the exercise I looked around. I'm in a classroom with my teammates, we are a group of 6 people. We are in the last rehearsal before the math competition on Saturday. My eyes meet Mandy, besides me she's the other girl in the group.
"I think that's all for today." Professor Anderson said. "I must say I am very proud of everyone. I'm sure we are going to be great this Saturday. "
"Let's kick some butt!" Marcel exclaims excitedly.
"That's the attitude Marcel" The professor smiles at his reaction. "Now you all can go and see you on Saturday."
We said goodbye to the teacher and we left the room.
"Lucy, can I ask you a question?" Mandy asks, reaching my step.
"Sure." I said puzzled. Mandy is nice but we don't talk much.
"Are you...emh, are you dating Harry Styles?"
Oh. I was not expecting that.
"Are you dating my cousin?" Marcel asked surprised by my side.
"N-no." I replied looking at my friend. "Of course not." I said returning my view on Mandy. "Why do you ask?"
"Really? Too bad. When I heard the rumors I felt jealous then I felt proud that someone so nerd like you were dating someone as handsome as Harry."Mandy sighed.
Someone so nerd like me? I don't know whether to say thanks or feel offended.
"Um, what kind of rumors?"
"Oh well, uh, you haven't heard any rumors?" I shook my head. "The thing is that everyone says that you two are dating because you spend a lot of time together and also you and Harry argued yesterday in the parking lot and that increased the rumors."
We don't spend much time together here. I can't believe that people judge and invent things so fast without even knowing what really happens. Also yesterday for a moment I forgot that I argued with Harry in the parking lot in front of many curios students.
"Anyway, I'm sorry, I was just curious. See ya." Mandy left quickly.
"Why do you argue with Harry yesterday?" Marcel asked. I shudder when I heard his voice, for a moment I forgot he was here too.
I don't know what to say, I can't tell him why I argued with Harry, If I do I have to talk about the kiss because that is the real reason. I don't know if it is a good idea and i don't feel comfortable talking about it.
Marcel looks at me expectantly for an answer. I swallowed hard and I squeezed my neurons, I must say something.
"I know it sounds silly but he didn't sit with me nor talked to me and then he came over to speak to me in the parking lot like nothing happened." I shrugged.
"My cousin is so bipolar." Marcel shook his head. "Just get away from him."
"Yes, that's what I'll do." I replied. "So, how do you feel for Saturday?" I asked, to change the subject.
We started talking and headed straight to the cafeteria.
"I'm going to sit with my friends from the chess club." Marcel tells me when we entered the cafeteria.
"Okay." I nodded and he left.
I started walking around the tables looking for Cassie. I've never been a paranoid person but I could swear that some people whisper as they look at me.
"Lucy, here!" I heard Cassie's voice from all the bustle of the cafeteria. I turned and I met my friend a few tables away from my position.
"I finally find you." I said, sitting in front of her.
"How was it? Are you nervous? "I nodded. "I bought you lunch." Cassie said, pointing to the other tray on the table.
"Thank you." I said without looking at her and I grabbed the tray.
"I need to talk to you." Cassie said and I gulped. I nodded without interest but I know what she is going to talk. "Did you discuss with Harry yesterday?"
Urg sometimes I wish that Cassie didn't know everything.
"Yeah. He ignored me and treated me like a stranger and then he spoke in the parking lot." I said shrugging. I'm not lying, I'm just simply omitting certain information.
"Oh, really?" She said, as if it were no big deal.
"Is there a problem?" I asked confused and she nodded.
"I think it was a little childish from you."
"What?" I winced. "I think I was right, Harry was being very bipolar. He believes he can control everything and to do what he wa-wants. " I whispered feeling afraid that he would listen to me, although it was technically impossible.
"Well, yes and no one says no because it's fucking Harry Styles." Cassie sighs.
"It's not as if he were fa-famous or something." I rolled my eyes. "He is an ordinary person; he can be han-handsome and sexy but--"
"Wow, wait a minute!" Cassie interrupted me. "Did you just say that Harry Styles is sexy?" Cassie smiled and I blushed. "You've never say that."
"Um, anyway that doesn't ma-matter." I stammered nervously. "The thing is I honestly don't care if he is the boy most popular around here or whatever, sometimes he is not a good person." I mumbled.
If only Cassie knew the truth. What Harry did wasn't right. He kissed me and then treated me like a stranger. That just makes me part of his list and it hurts to know that. Still I would like to know the reasons why he kissed me, I mean; he could have any other girl. I am nothing compared to the girls who have been involved with him.
"Still ..." Cassie shook her head in disapproval. "We are talking about Harry Styles and he talks to you. Some girls would crawl to get his attention. "
"You're right but I'm not that kind of girl." I shrugged.
"But Lucy!..." Cassie growled, "Whatever, it doesn't matter." Cassie sighed.
"Now, I-I have something to say." I talked before taking a bite of my burger. "I was wondering if you would go to math contest this Saturday." I asked while playing with my fingers.
"Shit." Cassie cursed. "Lucy I can't, I'm going out with Matt."
"Oh." That's all I managed to say. I thought she would accept.
"But I'm not changing you is just that he asked me first and-"
"Okay, I can understand." I nodded interrupting her.
"He is not more important than you but I really like this guy and we are now starting again and-"
"It is okay Cassie, I get it, no problem."
"The guilt will consume me so let me do something to repay you," Cassie pouted, "We could go out tomorrow to let go of the nerves. It will be fun."
I need to drop my nerves, in that she is right, I've been very tense these days but not for the math competition but rather for Harry. I guess I need to go out and relax; I also have nothing better to do. But where? I hope we go out to eat pizza or go to see a movie, that would be fun.
"Okay." I accepted and Cassie clapped excitedly. "You have so-some place in mind where we can go?"
"It will be a surprise." Cassie smiled.
+ + + HARRY + + +
The cafeteria is very noisy but practically I'm not listening to anyone. I rest my face on my hand and I see around me. I'm sitting with my friends but none of them talk to me.
I could talk to Niall or Liam if I wanted, but I am not in the mood. Louis and Zayn are a bit upset with me for my confused reaction yesterday. Zayn hasn't spoken about Lucy and I'm glad because I was about to kick his ass.
"Harry, what do you say?" I heard Louis's voice.
I shook my head as I went back to reality. "What are you talking?"
"Tomorrow let's go out, let's go to Taylor's bar. It's been a week since we went out together. "Louis says.
"Um, okay." That's all I say and I turn away my eyes from him.
I guess it would be a good idea but I know what will happen tomorrow. We drink, we get drunk and we end the night each one with a girl in his bed or at least to Zayn, Louis and I for sure.
My gaze stopped on the person who tortures my mind lately without even knowing it. Lucy is talking to Cassie and...Ryan. I still hate him, that fucking blond.
Cassie squints at Ryan, as if she wouldn't trust him while Lucy talks to him normally. He takes off her glasses and Lucy complains but then she smiles. She looks much better without glasses but I must admit that she looks adorable with them too.
Cassie almost screams when Matt sits beside her. They talk cheerfully leaving Lucy obliged to talk to the Ryan. He slides his arm around Lucy's shoulders and he hugs her. I'm about to get up to hit Ryan right now. How he dare to? She is...ugh, she's not mine in any way.
I would go there right away just to drag Lucy away from that idiot but I can't do that. We are not fine and it would just be another show in which I participate. I'm so sick of people talking about us.
"Where are you going Harry?" Niall asks. I hadn't noticed but I got up from my seat.
"Um, I’m going to smoke." I said the first thought that hit my mind.
"I'm going with you." Niall said, rising.
We both walked to the parking lot. It's odd that Niall comes to smoking a cigarette with me, he barely do that.
"So ..."Niall starts undecided. "How have you been Harry?"
That is a stupid question. He sees me 24 hours a day, he lives with me.
"I'm fine." I replied dryly before inhale the cigarette smoke.
"No, you are lying. I know you Harry. " Niall said looking at me.
"Really?" I smile and I exhaled the smoke on his face.
"Maybe Zayn and Louis didn't think the way Liam and I did but we know that something is happening to you."
"And what would that be?"
"It's Lucy." My body tensed when I heard her name. I look at him immediately and Niall smiles, "See? I'm right."
"Of course not, you little shit." I said annoying. I'm about to go, I don't want to talk about Lucy.
"Oh Harry, don't start, you should stop I just want to help you." Niall says before bring the cigarette to his mouth.
"What? I don't need your help Horan."
"To give you some advice, you look lost." I just laughed. "Oh please, I know that something is happening between you two. You reacted like crazy when Zayn talked about her. I can understand, I would have reacted the same, she is a girl and she is innocent from all this shit we are involved. "
"Yes, she is innocent but she's already involved."
"You should find another girl; you should talk to Taylor and try to change to her."
Holy shit. Why didn't I think of that? I'm about to hit myself, sometimes I'm so stupid.
Niall to the rescue again, maybe I don't say a lot to Niall or Liam but I don't know what I would do without them.
"It's a good idea. I'll talk to Taylor tomorrow. "I nodded. Maybe Taylor would accept and he would leave Lucy alone but something inside me tells me that he will not accept.
Ask him to leave Lucy is like almost give an order or to contradict him and Taylor hates that.
"Can I ask you something?" I nodded in response. "You don't care about anyone and yesterday you almost jumped over Zayn just to make him stop talking about her. You're not like that Harry, you always talk shit with Zayn about girls you two slept with. So...what's happening? "Niall asks.
I gulped, Niall caught me again.
Can I hit him and run away? I will not answer that.
All that he has been said it was so accurate. He knows that something happens and maybe he has the answer to the questions that I don't want to answer.
"And again, you look lost..." Niall breaks the silence. "You look confused; many things must be going through your mind right now." How can he be so right? I'm scared because he is saying exactly how I feel.
"Shut up." That's all I managed to say.
"You know what I advise you Harry?" Niall says as he throws the cigarette to the ground. "I will not draw conclusions without knowing but I say follow what your mind says, I will not say just follow your heart because you barely have one. Talk to Taylor or keep this shit. If he agrees, you should stay away from her but I have a feeling that you have reasons to stay close to Lucy or am I wrong? "And with that question Niall walks away.
My mouth is on the floor right now. What did he just say? I cannot believe it.
If Taylor accepts and I can choose another girl, I would have to stay away from Lucy, I would have to destroy another girl and Lucy could never forgive me for being so cruel. But if Taylor refuses and I keep with Lucy she will never forgive me for what I'll do to her. This is so hard, I'm between a rock and a hard place.
"Shit," I cursed angry. I'm starting to think that I'm losing control of the situation.
I need to turn off my thoughts and all I can do is go to class and pay attention, maybe that helps.

+ + +
I walked through the parking lot without looking at anyone. The idea to turn off my thoughts it worked and I paid attention most of the time but I couldn't help thinking what Niall said.
Do I have reasons to stay close to Lucy, right?
No, I don't. She's just a boring girl, too boring for me. Our personalities don't match and I hate knowing that she is not surrendered to my feet like the other girls.
Moving on, if Taylor doesn't agree and I keep this shit with Lucy I better get her forgiveness right? I have nothing interesting to do so I could bother her today. I must prepare a speech, what can I say? No good excuse comes to mind.
I spotted Lucy and Cassie; they are walking towards Cassie's car. I guess Lucy is going home.
I went to my car and I started the engine. This idea of following Lucy makes me feel like a stalker but I know I'm not.
Following Cassie's car I realize that this is not the way to get to Lucy's house. Where do they go then? As I drive I noticed that they are going to the city center, What are they going to do? Will they go shopping or something? I cannot imagine Lucy trying on clothes or buying makeup.
Cassie's car stops in front of a bookstore. Oh, I've been here twice. The first was to ask Lucy to go out with me and the second was when I bought a book here for her. Wow, seems to have been long ago, those memories seem so distant. Wow, we have been through a lot I guess.
I parked my car and I watched in the rearview mirror as Lucy got out of the car and said goodbye to Cassie. Lucy enters to the bookstore and Cassie leaves in her car.
Perfect. What if the world is conspiring in my help? Finally.
I got out of my car and I walked to the library. I am about to enter, but I stop. I have nothing planned, I don't know what to say to Lucy but I can improvise I guess.
I entered into the bookstore and there is no sign of Lucy.
The seller smiles at me but I ignored him. Everything is silent; I guess Lucy is the only one here. Maybe I could scare her, I like when she is scared.
I walked slowly down a hallway, I stopped at the end and I leaned my head to the other hallway. We have a winner, Lucy is here, that was fast. She hasn't noticed me looking at her; Lucy is standing reading a book.
I move quickly to the other hallway and I walked to the end. I'm going to appear on the other side and behind her. I entered into the hall and I walked on tiptoe. She didn't notice me, she is concentrated on her book and her hair is a screen that don't let me see her face.
I stop when I'm behind her, what can I do? Oh, I know!
I approached Lucy and I wrapped my arms around her waist.
"Hey nerd." I whispered in her ear. She shudders dropping the book from her hands.
"Aah!" Lucy jumps and I let her go of my grip. "My foot Harry!" She whines.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I apologized and I bent down to pick up the book. When I look back at Lucy she is frowning.
"What a-are you doing here?" She said snatching the book from my hands.
"I came to see you." I answered. Lucy bites her lower lip while she runs a hand through her long hair.
"How did you know I was here?" I will not answer that, I can't say I followed her. "Were you following me Harry?" She asks raising an eyebrow.
"Of course not, don't be stupid." I growled. Lucy sighed and returned the book on the shelf.
"What do you want Harry?" She asked, taking another book.
What can I say? I'm sorry? Ugh, I hate this.
"I wanted to see you." It was all I could say. What if I am not able to say 'sorry'? I am such a proud person.
"Oh, hi." She said sarcastically.
"Oh, come on, don't be like that." I complained.
"What?" Lucy turns to me. "I have my reasons and you should know that."
"What reasons?" I asked and Lucy blushed, what is she thinking? "Tell me." I ordered but Lucy shook her head.
"Why are you here Harry? Want to annoy me or what? I am not in the mo-mood. "Lucy sighed.
"I said I came to see you." I said already annoyed by the same question.
"You've seen me, can you go?" She said in a lower tone. I shook my head and Lucy left the book on the shelf. "Then I'll go." Lucy told me and she started walking out of the hall.
"Don't be childish Lucinda!" I said raising my voice. "You are upset about nonsense," I said, following her.
"Sorry Carl, I must go." Lucy said to the cashier.
"Is everything okay Lucy? Need help? "Carl asked looking at me and then Lucy.
"No, nothing." She shook her head and walked out.
"I can take you home." I announced following her down the street.
"No thanks, I can go by myself." Lucy said crossing her arms.
"Why are you angry?" I asked and Lucy stopped.
"I can't believe you are asking that." She said without looking at me.
"Well I don't know." I said and she doesn't answer. "Look at me and tell me."
Lucy raised her brown eyes at me as she bits her lip.
"Come on Harry," she whispered, "Think and you'll know the reason why I'm angry."
I don't want to think, I want her to say it. Is it so hard?
"What were you doing today with Ryan?" I said suddenly and I surprised myself for ask that.
She blinks surprised and then answer me: "I was just talking to him, nothing more." She whispered shrugging.
I thought she would say something like, 'Is not your problem' but instead she answered me. Sounds like an explanation when she owes nothing to me.
"Why do you keep talking to him?" I interrogated.
"I don't know, he's my friend." She sighed.
"Why do you let him hug you?" I frown, "What if he kiss you again against your will?" The idea somehow kills me inside; I still remember when he kissed her.
Lucy's eyes break contact with mine. "I don't know, is not your problem," she said, "maybe I want."
"What!?" I screamed and Lucy jumped. "What did you say?" I scream and clenched my fists.
"Ca-calm down Harry." Lucy stepped back frightened. "I was jo-joking." She admitted.
But what the fuck was that? How can she say that and then say that is a joke? Is she playing with me?
"Excuse me, are you okay?" A man stood between us and looked at Lucy. "Is this guy bothering you?" He looked at me with a frown.
"Don't worry, I'm fi-fine." She replied.
"Sorry to interrupt, but he is screaming and you are in the middle of the street. I thought he was going to hit or something."
I hate curious people, I'm getting angry.
"You idiot, this is not your fucking business," I warned, approaching towards him." I'll hit you so hard you'll forget your name." I grunt.
"Harry , stop it."Lucy says as she stands between us. She rests her hand on my chest and I grabbed her waist. Lucy trembles at my touch." We're fine, thanks for your help." Lucy says with a slight smile.
"Be careful." He said before leaving. The man looks once back to us and I raise my middle finger with a smile.
"Harry...what were yo-you thinking?" Lucy frowned, moving away from me.
"I hate curious people; this was not his fucking problem." I roll my eyes.
"No, is not, but you can't hit innocent people." She said looking at me with disappointment. "He was just worried for me, you're yelling in the street, you're scaring people."
"I don't give a shit, I wouldn't be yelling at you if you hadn't made that stupid joke." I spat.
"I didn't think you'd react like this." Lucy shrugged. "I think you overreacted. I still don't un-derstand why you don't like Ryan. "
"He kissed you against your will." I answered immediately.
"Yes, but he apologized."
"He used you Lucy." I said running a hand through my hair.
She frowned and shook her head. "Just like you." Lucy spoke and her words rumble in my ears.
Oh, I know why she is angry. Shit.
"Lucy, I--"
"Now you know Harry," she growled. "I'm so angry. You kissed me and then treat me like a stranger."She said with pain stuck to her words. "Why?"
"I didn't –"
"You kissed me then you said it was a mistake, you changed as soon as we left the tea house and the next day you didn't smile at me or greet me, was it too much to ask?" Lucy said looking away from me.
She barely kissed two guys, that is why she is exaggerating this.
"I shouldn't kiss you and I know I acted wrong, so what?"
"So nothing." She nodded staring at her feet. "It doesn't matter, everything is done," Lucy sighed. "the que-question is..." She looked up and our eyes met. "Why did you do that?"
Her question caught me off guard, but I should have known this was coming, Lucy wouldn't leave things unresolved. Perhaps I could say something but never get to the real problem.
"Oh, I..." I stammered, not knowing what to say.
"Tell me the truth," she whispered looking me straight in the eyes. I don't show it but now I feel intimidated, "Why did you kiss me Harry?"
Shit.
