I feel like this is the one thing I may get absolutely hated on, but you guys asked so...

First things first, I'm a Brit (ayyy) and I've unfortunately never been to America although I plan to go when I'm adult to do a food tour of all the fast food chains which I feel so left out from here. So my opinions can only really come from what I've seen in the media, and from the American people I've met.

I have this very weird, conflicting view on America which I think a lot of non-Americans also have. There's this one part of me which hates Trump, gun laws, racism, the over-exaggerated nature of things etc, but then there's that other side which can't live without American exports not only of products but of culture.

There are some things that America does which I'll never understand. I've already expressed enough on this account how I don't understand gun laws at all. I don't understand how white people can be so anti-immigrant when their ancestors were immigrants, therefore the only people that can be properly anti-immigration without being a hypocrite are Native Americans who have been treated like shit in America ever since Europeans landed there.

I don't like the way some Americans act in other countries, especially where I'm from in the UK. I just find it a bit patronising when people coo about how 'quaint' our culture is, and generalise a lot of things. One thing that really bugs me is when Americans say the went to 'Europe' - like where did you go? Europe is a continent ffs, so unless you went interrailling you probably didn't go to the whole of Europe.

BUT

I also love America. I love American music and TV, and there have been so many times in my life where all I've wanted to do is run away to live by a Californian beach. I've met some of the nicest people who are from America, and on the whole I can tell that most people are just normal people. It's just a few that give Americans a bad rep.

I think what most Americans may not realise is the cultural impact of the US across the world. It has infiltrated a lot of cultures and changed things, and I have no idea what the UK would be like today without that American influence.
