Chapter 28
Jude sat at his desk thinking of how he was going to handle the situation now that Mrs. Garvey was in the facility and there had been no attacks. He wondered what he should do next. Rutherford had said that she went to an Ivy League but hadn't finished. That was odd, but nothing to worry over. Jude thought she had some valid reason for quitting, but it was strange no the less. She was obviously intelligent which meant she shouldn't be underestimated. He may look innocent, but perhaps there is more to her than he originally thought. Jude stood from his chair and approached the bookshelf and pulled the book. As he punched in his code he thought it couldn't hurt to ask the woman some questions. He entered the elevator and rode it down as he considered what he should ask. I should just be straight with her ask her flat out if she was involved. No that wouldn't do I she is involved she would never confess at least verbally perhaps if I skirted the subject she would give me a clue she is not what she seems. The elevator opened and Jude exited walking down the hallway searching for Mrs. Garvey's room. Reaching her room he let out a deep breath and opened the door. As he entered the room Megan sat up in to see who was entering.
"Who are you?" she asked
"My name is Mr. King and I run this facility." Jude responded.
"Hmm you look vaguely familiar." She continued as she looked him over.
"You may have seen me during your previous visits to the facility."
Megan thought of her previous visits and thought it was the most logical explanation.
Nodding her head she responded "Yeah that was probably it."
"So, Mrs. Garvey as you may have realized your husband was scheduled to come in a month before you."
Megan's body stiffened slightly before she responded "Yes I know that."
"Well Mrs. Garvey I just wanted to welcome you to our facility and make sure that you were adjusting well." Replied Jude as he turned to leave the room.
"Wait is he here?" replied Megan pleading.
Turning to respond "I am not at liberty share that information with you Mrs. Garvey."
Megan's eyes moved as she thought to herself. He's bluffing because he wants to see your reaction, but what if he's not. No he is bluffing. Looking concerned Megan asked again "Is he here? I know he was scheduled to be here, but is he still here?"
Seeing that the woman was on the verge of tears Jude saw the look of despair in her eyes. He believed she was truly only concerned that her husband was still living in this nightmare of a place. He collected his thoughts before he responded "I am not at liberty to say." He quickly stepped out of the room as Mrs. Garvey began to scream loudly at him "WHERE IS HE?"
Megan continued to scream as loud as she could until she felt that Jude had moved far enough away. She slowly let her screams die down until she stopped and sat quietly thinking to herself. I think that I have fooled him but I will need to be careful. He is smarter than the others. He seemed to know that I shouldn't be underestimated. I will need to rest so that I am ready for whatever they throw at me tomorrow. That was too close he was able to wavier my knowledge of John's safety.

Jude could hear Megan continuing to scream as he walked back to the elevator. He thought she had given him a small sign she knew something of her husband's disappearance, but he was uncertain if she truly was playing with them or if she knew more. He would need to keep a close eye on her. He made his way back to his office to find Rutherford waiting for him.
"What do you need Rutherford?" Jude asked.
"I was looking into the wife some more and I found something interesting. She used to protest the Mill, but when she left college abruptly she stopped. I think she might be a part of an organization meant to take us down." Said Rutherford pleased with his findings.
"And this proves nothing. There are many college age people who protest us and then they move on with their lives." Replied Jude not buying into Rutherford's conspiracy.
"But Sir I just have a feeling that she is hiding something." Pleaded Rutherford.
Brushing off Rutherford's ideas Jude replied "Rutherford until you find solid proof this is all in your head. She is strapped down to a bed with no way of communicating to the outside world. She was swept for any kind of weapons or bugs on her person. She was clean so let it go."
Slouching his shoulders in defeat Rutherford left the room. Jude shook his head at the thought of someone like Megan having some kind of connection to a secret organization. She was intelligent, but a spy that was a real hoot. Laughing at the thought Jude sat down in his chair and didn't think any more about it.

Rutherford slumped back to his office grumbling about his ideas being shot down. Walking into his office and slamming the door Rutherford mumbled angrily to himself.
"Rutherford do this. Rutherford do that. No Rutherford don't do this. Don't do that. Rutherford. Rutherford. Rutherford."
Falling down into his chair Rutherford fuming jerked open his laptop and said "I'll show him who's crazy. When I find something then who will be laughing."
Rutherford began to type into his search engine Frontline Insurance. Several links came up and Rutherford clicked onto the home page for the company. Skimming over the tabs he clicked onto the employees section and found the names of several employees listed. Not finding any information of former employees he wrote down a few names and started to search to see if there were any connections to be found. He began to search for any information of the names he had found. Finding nothing of value he start to think maybe he was just being crazy. Then he typed into the computer the next employee name on the list, Sal Allegri. An arrest report popped up onto his screen. He skimmed over the information and read that he had been arrested with three others, Marjorie Allegri, Joanie Peterson and Julian Peterson. Rutherford read the report that they had all been arrested for protesting without a permit on government property.
Four individuals refused to disperse after informed that they needed a permit. The arresting officer reported they were protesting the establishment known as the Mill. The four individuals were released on bail and all charges were dropped.
Rutherford noticed an attachment connected to the report. He clicked the attachments and each of their mugshots pulled up. He glanced over each of the photographs and thought Oh now I've got something. He printed out the mugshots and the report and went back to search for more connections.

Jude walked into his house tired after a long day of work. He was stressed and on edge when he wife came to greet him at the door. She was smiling and looked eager to see Jude. Jude was tired and wanted to go straight to his bed for a long nights rest. Taking off his shoes Jude looked up and said "I think I am just going on to bed. It's been a long day."
Jude began to walk up the stairs when his wife hollered after him "Jude don't forget to take your medicine."
Jude grumbled to himself sarcastically. "Yeah don't forget to take your pill. It's been twenty years and I haven't had a seizure, but no Jude take your pill."
Jude pushed his way into his bedroom and slowly changed into his pajamas. He walked into his bathroom and pulled a bottle of pills and opened the lid. Seeing that he only had one pill left he popped the pill into his hand but missed and it fell down into the sink. Trying to save the pill Jude fumbled after it, but the pill slid down the drain with a small clank. Shrugging his shoulders Jude thought to himself. Oh well it's not like I like taking them anyways. Jude walked back into his bedroom and fell into the bed. He pulled the covers over his head and drifted off to sleep. His wife came up the stairs after a few minutes to check on him. Seeing that he had fallen asleep she moved to turn on the soothing noise maker, but it wasn't working. She fiddled with the player for a few moments until she gave up. Whispering she said "Oh well I guess you will live one night without it Jude."
Jude woke up early feeling refreshed and ready for anything. He practically leapt out of his bed and quickly dressed for work. He was in the kitchen making himself breakfast when his wife came in.
"Well someone slept well last night." Kindra said as she stepped into the kitchen.
"Yes in fact that's the best sleep I've gotten in years. I feel so much lighter this morning." Jude replied as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
Yawning as she went to make herself a cup of coffee Kindra replied "That's good. I'm glad you slept so well because the sound machine wasn't working last night. I thought it might disturb your sleep if it wasn't on."
"Not at all. I had the most vivid dreams last night. They were incredible. I had this one dream of a woman who seemed so familiar." Jude replied enthusiastically
Raising an eyebrow Kindra asked "A woman?"
Moving to hug his wife Jude responded "Not like that Kindra. More like a friend someone who I loved but not in a romantic way."
Moving away from his hug "Well as long as it wasn't a romantic kind of love."
"Of course not you know I love you. You know I didn't even take my pill last night. I cant beli---"
Cutting Jude off Kindra turned around abruptly "You what?"
Seeing the concern in his wife's eyes Jude quietly repeated "I didn't take my pill."
Sighing Kindra responded "And why didn't you take it?"
"Well it was the last one and it fell down the sink. It's been twenty years I think I can go one day." Jude replied trying to reassure his wife.
"Jude you know how dangerous it is not to take your medicine. Why didn't you tell me you were low?" asked his wife rubbing her forehead.
Shrugging Jude replied "I don't know. I guess I just forgot. Things at work have just been so crazy."
"Ok well I guess I will refill your prescription after work today." Responded Kindra still looking concerned.
"Oh don't worry so much Kindra I'll be ok." Replied Jude as he lifted her off the ground.
Laughing as Jude picked her up from the ground Kindra kicked and thrashed trying to get Jude to put her down.
"Put me down you crazy man!" squealed Kindra laughing.
Jude suddenly stopped and put Kindra down. He held his forehead as a sharp pain shot through his head. Kindra saw the pain he was in and was concerned as she asked "Jude what's wrong?"
"It's just a slight headache. I'll life I promise." Jude responded
The headache began to subside and Jude stood up and continued "See all better it was just a small one."
"Are you sure?" Kindra asked still not convinced.
"I'm sure Kindra." Replied Jude as he looked at his watch "Oh I need to get going I was supposed to meet with Rutherford this morning he has some crazy ideas he's trying to prove."
Jude quickly kissed Kindra goodbye and was out the door. He made his way to work and on the drive he felt lighter than he ever had before. He thought to himself I haven't felt this great in years. I wonder what's changed. Pulling into the Mill Jude hopped out of his car and made his way into the building. The guard greeted him and he responded more cheerfully than normally making the guard do a double take. Jude made it to his office to find Rutherford waiting outside. Rutherford was staring at him anxiously as he walked to open the door.
"Good morning Sir." Rutherford said as they entered the office.
"Good morning. So what have you got for me today Rutherford?" Jude asked as he walked over to sit at his desk.
Rutherford walked up the desk and placed the mugshots down. Jude looked down at the photos and felt another headache coming on. He winced and rubbed his forehead for a few seconds until the headache subsided. He looked back at the mugshots and asked "Who are these people?"
"They are or were employees at the same insurance company where Mrs. Garvey used to work." Rutherford responded smiling.
"Ok but what does this prove?" Jude asked raising an eyebrow
Clearing his throat Rutherford continued "Well Sir, these four individuals were all arrested for protesting without a permit."
Rubbing his forehead Jude replied "And?"
"And they were protesting the Mill." Rutherford pleaded
His headache was grew stronger as Rutherford continued to explain "Yes and as I have said previously many people protest the Mill."
"But do many of them start to work at an insurance company even though they have degrees in other fields that are not business?" Rutherford asked.
"Ok I get it Rutherford it's suspicious, but I can't just take a small suspicion to the Board unless I have serious hard evidence. You keep looking into this company and keep me updated, but right now I have a headache. So if you wouldn't mind." Jude replied as he tried to soothe his headache by rubbing his head.
Rutherford left the room quickly to continue his research leaving Jude with the mugshots laying on his desk. Jude put his head into his head and closed his eyes as he tried to calm his mind. Maybe Kindra was right. I shouldn't have skipped my medicine. This headache is killing me.
