My heart raced as I padded hesitantly towards the scent, paws trembling with each step forward. The rogue group from the twoleg place had found us, or at least what was left. They were stealing kits, and killing all who refused to join them. Now my mission was to save my little brother. He was too old to be treated as a kit, and they had already killed our sister because she refused to live among their ranks. I climbed into a nearby tree, nearly falling as my claws scraped at the ice. Once I had reached the top, I saw him. A small, black figure with gray ears and amber eyes. He was running, sprinting away from the large cat chasing him. Without thinking, which I regret, I plummeted out of the tree behind my brother and intercepted the cat. She didn't even try to stop, spitting and hissing as her claws scraped my fur. My brother cast a terrified look at me as he turned to come back, but I told him to run. After kicking the she cat off, I sped towards him and nudged him into a tree, promising to find him if he continued to run through the branches of the trees. He nodded and turned climbed up just in time to remain hidden. The she cat was back, and this time two others were with her. Pale-blue eyes locked with my hazy green ones. At that moment, I knew that I'd made a promise I couldn't keep. I tried to fight, I truly did, but my mission was to save my brother, and I would fulfill it. My head swung to the side as claws met my cheek, and I began to lead them away from the tree. I thought I might get away, however, I had led myself to my own demise. The trio closed in as I backed towards the snowy cliff. A large gray tom with amber eyes clawed at my back while I attacked the tabby she cat. Just as I had her retreating, the small white rogue, her bi-colored eyes narrowed, swung at me with dagger-like claws. I staggered back, gasping for breath as blood seeped from my neck. I could have survived if they left; then the gray tom pushed me. That was it. I fell to the earth, the adrenaline subsiding. For a moment, I felt content in what I had done, but right before I hit the ground, I heard my brother's scream.
