THINGS TO REMEMBER:

➜ Every judge is expected to read AT LEAST 5 CHAPTERS.

➜ You will have 2 WEEKS to judge in the first round because you will have to judge five books.

NOVELS/SHORT STORIES:

Cover: 10 marks

Did it fit well with the themes and the story? Was it eye-catchy? 

Title: 10 marks

Did it suit the story? Did it hook you? Was it a common title?

Blurb (story description): 10 marks

Did it hook you? Would it have made you want to read the story? Did it give the right enough information? Did it portray the story's themes well?

The first chapter (NOT prologue): 10 marks

Were you hooked from the first chapter? Was there a good amount of description and dialogue? 

Spelling, punctuation and grammar: 10 marks

Were there any grammatical mistakes?

Page layout (paragraphs, lines etc): 10 marks

Setting: 10/10

Was there any? Was there a whole load of description all at once? Did it fit well with the story and its theme?

Characters: 10/10

Were the characters realistic/relatable? Did you get to know the genders/ social status/likes and dislikes? Did the characters pique your interest?

Overall impression: 20 marks

Was it interesting? Would you want to read more?

TOTAL: 100 MARKS

POETRY:

Cover: 10 marks

Did it fit well with the themes and the story? Was it eye-catchy? 

Page layout (paragraphs, lines etc): 10 marks

Was it a neat set-up? Were there any excess gaps?

Spelling, punctuation and grammar: 10 marks

Originality: 10 marks

The tone of expression or emotions: 10 marks

Depth of understanding: 10 marks

Message delivered: 10 marks

Did you get the point the poet was trying to make?

Overall impression: 20 marks

TOTAL: 90 MARKS
