Twenty-four

Tony Pov

It was Daisy's first day of school in Manchester, (by the way, it doesn't get any easier to drop them at school the older they get), and Daisy still wasn't really feeling school that day, (well, I don't think anyone would be feeling school on the first day like ever, so there's that to consider here), so I obviously tried to convince her that school was alright, (yeah 'tried to convince' are the important words here).

"Daddy, I don't wanna go in"
"I know that you don't Baby, I know"
"It's scary"
"I know it seems like that Honey, but it's really not as scary as it seems, I promise"
"But how do you know that Daddy?"
"Because I did the same thing when I was your age"
"You did?"
"Yeah Baby, I did"
"Ok"

I just wanted to be able to take away any worries that she had about going to a new school, (though I think that most parents want that for their kids), though I've been trying to do that for about a week at this point, and I got nowhere with that, so I knew that I couldn't do that as Daisy would've just have worried about it more, (which she got from me so I would actually be quite useless here regardless), (as we're both worry warts apparently, so that's totally fun here... not).

"Daddy, can we have spaghetti for dinner?"
"Sure we can Baby, you can have all the spaghetti you want"
"That's a lot of spaghetti though Daddy"
"I know, (kisses cheek), but I think that we'll need it after today Sweetheart, don't you think?"
"Yeah"
"Ok then Baby"

I probably shouldn't have said yes to just having spaghetti for dinner, (though it is banging with some butter, I'm not gonna lie here), but I also think that doing something like that every so often isn't going to hurt anyone, (though that whole thing probably isn't what most people think), also it helped distract Daisy, if even for a minute, (which was enough to help Daisy with school that day, so I took that as a win here).

"Daddy"
"Yes Baby"
"Can you come in with me please?"
"Yeah Baby, I can, come on Sweetheart, hold my hand now, ok"
"Ok Daddy"
"That's it Baby, you got this"

So I walked Daisy into her new class, (not that I would've let do so on her own at 6 years old here), as I knew that she needed me to make sure that everything was going to be ok, (though I guess that's just part of being a parent), even if I had no actual control over that sort of thing, (I know that I couldn't afford to stay in London but I hated that I had added yet another change in Daisy's life).

So we got to Daisy's new class, and Daisy still didn't really seem sure about it, though I didn't blame her here as I felt the same when my parents moved us to Manchester when I was 6, (Dad got a job offer up here before the crash in the 80's), so I crouched down to Daisy's eye level and cupped her face to try and soothe some of her anxieties, (and it kind of helped mine too, so 2 birds, 1 stone and all that).

"Hey Baby, you're going to be ok"
"But how do you know that though Daddy?"
"Because you are the smartest little girl I know, and I know that it seems really scary, but I promise you that it's not as scary as it seems Baby"
"That's a very big thing to promise Daddy"
"I know it is, but have I ever lied to you about the important things Darling?"
"No, you haven't, you don't like lying Daddy"
"Then trust me Baby, ok"
"Ok"

Even though Daisy did actually seem a little less worried than she was, (though that could've been me just seeing what I wanted to see), I still felt awful that she was so worried, (even though I knew that she wasn't a fan of school before this point anyway), so I took a deep breath and tried to get Daisy settled in, because that was the only thing stopping me fucking crying right then.

"You ready to go in Baby?"
"Yeah"
"Ok, I love you Baby"
"I love you too Daddy"

So I then had to leave to go to work, but I felt bad about that as I knew that Daisy probably wasn't fully settled in, but I had no other option as I didn't think that she'd ever have been fully settled in on her first day, (not that I remember much from when I did the same, as I think that I honestly blocked it out).
