Chapter 6

Natsuki woke up, heavily breathing and shaking. She had merely dreamed of the worst. Looking at the cupcake trays, all three were still there and well.

"Jesus Christ. I sure hope it wasn't one of those dreams where you see the future..."

Natsuki finally stood up and changed into her school uniform. The nightmare was fresh as cupcakes just coming out of the oven in her head, and she doubted her ability to shake the thought.

Natsuki stacked all three cupcake trays in her arms, with her backpack on her back. Luckily her dad wasn't home, so she could get out of the house alive.

The cupcakes were a lot to balance, but Natsuki made it to the school just fine.

"Natsuki, do you want help with that?" Monika was luckily just arriving at school also, and happened to spot the struggling Natsuki.

"Heh, yeah could you carry the top one? I can handle the other two." Natsuki turned towards Monika.

Monika did as she was told, and both girls carried the cupcakes up to the clubroom before their first class started.

"Thanks a bunch, Monika," Natsuki said.

"Whoah, since when did you say thank you?" Monika asked.

"Wait, since when DID I say thank you?"

Natsuki managed to confuse herself also.

"Uh... Guess the stars are aligned?" Natsuki replied, unsure of what exactly to say. Monika wasn't told of Natsuki's grand plan.

"Are reasons why I love you...?" Monika finished reading the third cupcake tray.

"Forget about her not knowing..."

Monika had a smug grin on her face, looking at Natsuki for answers.

"Heh, you see..." Natsuki backed herself into a figurative corner.

"Something tells me that this tray is for Sayori," Monika said, still smiling.

"Fine, it's my confession for her. But I don't expect good things out of it, in fact, I expect a rejection harder than a tree trunk." Natsuki admitted, arms crossed.

"I'm looking forward to seeing this..." Monika said, walking out of the club room.

Natsuki carried the weight of the confession on her shoulders until lunch. She was overly excited and nervous about her confession. Kind of like you're first sports practice. You know what to do, but you're super nervous to meet your new teammates.

"I'm super excited for the festival! I think it'll go great, especially with Natsuki's cupcakes." Sayori said, taking a seat next to Natsuki at the table.

"I think Yuri's declarations will
for sure draw attention." Monika commented, and her comment caused Yuri to turn away.

"Sayori's posters looked amazing, so I bet those will attract the most people." Natsuki added. She didn't want to sound super bias, despite the other two girls knowing her huge crush on Sayori, but she also felt like she had to compliment Sayori.

Recess was spent reading manga with Sayori. In the manga, the girl had baked a batch of cupcakes asking to male to be her boyfriend.

"Idea stealer..."

Natsuki had believed her idea to be original, but according to this volume it wasn't.

"How adorable..." Natsuki heard Sayori mumble.

"The confession...?"

This lit a spark in Natsuki. Maybe Sayori wanted something similar.

"Forget the idea stealing, that comment was all I needed!"

Natsuki was now 100% convinced her confession would turn out right, and when recess ended she continued her day with all the confidence her body could hold. It was lots, despite her size.

The bell dismissed the last class of the day, and Natsuki dashed out of the classroom on her way to the clubroom.

Monika was already there, and her attention was snatched from her homework when the door flung open.

"Jesus, what are you here early for?" Monika asked.

"Waiting for a special someone.." Natsuki threw her bag down right beside the door and speed-walked to her cupcake trays.

"She usually gets here three ish minutes after me, so she'll be here soon." Monika informed.

"Just enough time for me to get ready." Natsuki replied, grabbing the tray that had the confession.

Yuri came before Sayori did, which reassured Natsuki.

"Hey, could you guys maybe... Hide in the bathroom until she's here..?" Natsuki nervously asked.

"No prob, c'mon Yuri." Monika and Yuri took their exit to the restroom down the hall.

Natsuki on the other hand, stood at the door with her cupcake tray in hand. She didn't have to stand long.

"N-Natsuki..?" Sayori stuttered, confused as she looked at the words written across the cupcakes.

"Sayori, my dearest friend since forever, will you be my girlfriend..?" Natsuki held back tears, but never broke her gaze from Sayori.

"I-I don't know what to say.." Sayori wiped away tears forming in her own eyes.

"Guess that dream was-."

"YES!"

"Wrong."

Natsuki's thoughts were completely cut in half when Sayori literally shouted her answer. She jumped into a hug with Natsuki, causing the cupcakes to splatter onto the floor.

"Guess part of that dream was right huh..?"

The two girls just laughed, tears in both of their eyes as they hugged each other.

Not long later, Yuri and Monika returned to see both girls in a deep hug.

"We.. Heard a scream.." Yuri explained.

Both Natsuki and Sayori pulled away, Natsuki heavily blushing.

"Seeing as you both were about to make out, I assume she said yes?" Monika smirked.

"Not said, " Natsuki corrected, "screamed."

Sayori nervously giggled, and Yuri half smiled.

The festival may as well been their first date. They originally wrote poems for the festival, but both Sayori and Natsuki scrapped the originals to make poems about each other. As for the cupcake mess... Yuri took the job of cleaning it just before the festival started. Monika was most grateful for Yuri's action.

Everytime Sayori presented her poem, Natsuki couldnt help but smile and watch. As the words were spoken, she couldn't help thinking that the words were for her. It wasn't a false assumption either, since they truly were for Natsuki only.

Thoughts of "wow", "she's mine", "how did this happen?", "is this a dream too?", and "this IS my reality now" flooded Natsuki's head during the festival. It was so beyond her how this happened. How she ended up with her bestest friend in the world to be her girlfriend. It was all such a journey.

As for Sayori, she had questions as well. She wondered why she hadn't noticed Natsuki's feelings sooner, but also asked herself why she bottled up her own feelings. Sayori pushed it all aside, this was their day.

"Hey, that pink haired chick's poem, you remember it?" A boy said in the hall. The festival was just over, and Natsuki insisted on walking out with Sayori.

"Yeah, man she's a cutie." His friend commented.

"Hey, don't call me cute!" Natsuki blurted out to the boys.

Both of them turned to face Natsuki and Sayori.

"But Natsuki, you are cute though..." Sayori whined.

"Hey why ain't you snapping at her?" One of the boys asked.

"Because only SHE can call me cute, now hustle along boys." Natsuki retorted.

Sayori smiled at Natsuki's remark.

"What? It's true you know, " Natsuki said, "only you can call me cute."

Both girls walked to the school's entrance, where they had to part ways.

"See you tomorrow Nat." Sayori said.

"Same to you Sayori." Natsuki replied, waving goodbye and turning to walk home.

Walking home, Natsuki realized why she deserved Sayori.

Because she's the only one who is allowed to get away with calling Nat cute.

A/N: believe me, dating your best friend is super strange at first, but sure is one h*ll of a journey. Anyways, that sums up Only You Can Call Me Cute. I hope you enjoyed your Saysuki fan fiction presented by the one and only MegaNutella. If there are any grammar mistakes here, please comment and I'll fix them ASAP! I've read through this twice so it should be good, but still. Anyways I hope you enjoyed, and have a great day or night depending on when you're reading.
