This is the story of Ellie Lee,
She said, "I only want friends exactly like me."
She wanted someone with hair just as straight,
Winning three-legged races with their matching gaits.
She wanted a friend whose eyes were as brown,
Who'd always play princess, and wear matching gowns.
She looked high and low for skin color the same,
As her pinky-brown tone, but that friend never came.
Nobody had the same nose, nor grew the same height.
Though she looked high and low, not one friend was quite right.
She complained to her mom, feeling lonely and blue,
Who said, "But who is there who is exactly like you?"
"We're all made unique, that's precisely our gift;
whether our skin, or our faith, or our languages shift."
"Only we can be us, none exactly the same,
Because not being us would be such a shame."
"Only you can be you, outside and in,
And diversity is the best part about having friends."
Ellie Lee sat thinking about what she'd done,
and said, "Many friends who are different, must be better than none."
Ellie Lee couldn't find friends who looked the same,
But now she's got plenty, who love to play games.
