Only You
My feet with out me commanding them. I can't feel anymore. Although the night is cold and the rain hits me like small pieces of glass, I continue my path. The path that will to take me to her one last time.
I look around to finally see the only sakura tree in full bloom. "I'm coming Misaki." My steps get faster and I trip. But my eyes won't look anywhere else but that grave. It's as I'm afraid it will disappear...just like her.
Once I reach it, I see all the flowers people have left on top of it. Dirt is slowly going down with the rain. I fall on my knees and hug the dirt. I still have hope it's a nightmare that when I wake up she will be alive.
"Why? Why did you leave me? We promises Misaki! Why were you being so selfish and decided to take your Life!? Why!?" I wanted to be mad, to have her apologize for leaving me. To hear her voice again...but that would never happen.
My tears mix with the dirt and rain. I wanted to be with her. "I won't leave you alone Misaki." I take a small picture frame from my pocket and look at it. With my muddy fingers I trace her eyes and smile.
"I won't go anywhere." Hugging her picture tightly I close my eyes.
"Heisuke! Wake up Heisuke! Sleepy head, wake up!" I can hear her voice. It feels real. I'm scare to open my eyes. "Heisuke," I feel a warm, soft hand touch my cheek. "Wake up." I open my eyes and sit up.
My eyes try to adjust to the bright light. When they finally do, I look around see it's small flowers and grass everywhere. "Finally! You've been sleeping for ever." My heart jumps at the sound of her voice. I turn around and see Misaki looking down at me with a smile.
Her beautiful brown hair flows with the wind. Her green eyes bright like the grass. I stand up and hug her with all my might. "Misaki! I've missed you so much." She hugs me back. "I've missed you too."
The warm of her body puts my heart at ease but also makes it go crazy at the same time. "Why did you leave me Misaki? Why didn't you think in my pain?" I feel her tighten the hug more.
I breath in her scent. She slowly let's go of me and smiles. "Catch me." She says laughing and running away. I run after her. She laughs and moves through the grass trying to avoid my touch.
"Catch me Heisuke! Catch me!" I look at her and her smile brings peace to my heart. Maybe it was just a dream. But I move any thought out of my mind. I want her to be the only thing in it.
I run faster and grab her arm pulling it towards me. I embrace her again and we lock eyes. The smile never leaving her lips. She bites her lips and looks around. I can't help but smile at her expression.
"Now it's your turn." I say running away from her. I hear her laugh following me. I run and hide behind the only sakura tree there is. I didn't even see it when I was filling her.
I peek from behind and and she does the same bit in diferent direction. When we finally end up looking at each other, she leans in and kisses me.
Her lips are soft like a flower petal. When we stop the kiss, her cheeks are pink but still has a smile on her lips. "I've always wanted to do that." I say out of breath. She laughs and nods. "Me too."
I stay looking at her. Slowly I cup her face with my hands and look her. I want her image engraved in my mind and heart. She slowly wipes a tear from my face.
"Don't cry." I shake my head. "It's just, I'm happy to see you." Her smile widens more.
"Heisuke!" I look around at the sound of someone calling me. "Heisuke! Wake up!" I look around once again but I see no one. "It's time for me to go Heisuke." Misaki let's go of me. I quickly grab her hand in confusion at what she had just said.
But reality hits as I understand the meaning of those words. Tears escape my eyes and I pull her in my arms not wanting to let go. "No! No no no! Please...don't go." I beg with all my heart.
She hugs me tight and I feel her tears hit my shirt. Falling on my knees with her following me, I lose control of my pain. She cups my face in her hands and looks at me with a smile on her lips and tears falling from her eyes.
"Please...don't go. Stay with me." I hold her hand tight and beg her once more. "Heisuke!"
"I don't want to go. I want to stay here with you." She shakes her head and looks down.
"You have to go." I shake my head. "No! I won't go with out you! I need you... I need to tell you that I love you. And make you happy." I hug her with all my might. "I love you too Heisuke. I'm so sorry I'm hurting you like this."
She lets go of me and stands up. I stay on the ground but reach for her hand one more time. "Don't leave. Take me with you. Misaki, please." She holds my hand and gets on her knees again. She hugs me one last time before standing up and walking off.
"No...no Misaki...come back." I look up and she is gone. I'm left by the sakura alone. The wind moves the grass and flowers making them loose their petals. "I'll wait for you here. I promise." I hear her voice with the wind.
I look around me to try and find her but I don't. Heisuke!" The voice calling for me sounds louder and suddenly I open my eyes again. "Thank God your awake!" Slowly rising up from the ground I sit up and look around.
It's still dark and cold. Harada and Shinpachi sitting on the ground with a relieved look on their face. I look back at the grave beside me and see the picture of Misaki on it.
All the memories of the her letter to me and seeing her in the coffin come back to my mind. Her words saying she was sorry for doing what she did. Saying not to blame my self, but that was exactly what I felt. Guilt for not telling her that I loved her.
For not noticing she needed me. "Heisuke, it's not your fault." I shooked my head and hugged my knees. "I should of noticed. If only I would of-" I chocked on my own tears. Shinpachi hugs me and I cry in his arms. I fell Harada patting my back.
"It's not your fault. And I'm sure she knew you loved her." Harada says. The images of the dream I just had of her came back to my mind. The kiss, her smile, her eyes. "I won't see her again. How am I suppose to live with out her?"
Harada looks at me with tears and shrugs. "You learn to live. I've learned how to, I'm sure you can too." He says looking back to a grave. He had also lost the love if his life, Sayuri.
The rain stops and the sky clears just leaving the moon to shine over us. I stay still looking at her picture and thinking of her last words. "I'll wait for you. I promise."
"Come on lets go." Shinpachi says. I feel a arm around my shoulders. "Heisuke let's go. Everyone is worry about you." I sigh and nod. "You two go on ahead. I'll follow you in just a minute." They look at each other then, Harada nods. They walk away slowly leaving me alone.
I grab her picture and hug it one last time. "You promised." I say to my self. I slowly put the picture back on top of the flowers. "I love you...only you...always you." I slowly walk away from there.
The wind picks it quickly and the petals from the sakura tree fly off. " I love you Heisuke." I hear her voice fly away with the wind and petals. I look up at the sky and her image pops in my mind. Her smiling face looking at me.
I put a hand on my chest, and breath in. "Wait for me Misaki." I continue to walk leaving the love of my life to rest in peace.
The end.
