Vanilla said she'd take care of Sonic for us while we all went home to sleep, shower, and clean up our houses. I just hoped Sonic noticed we were gone somehow.

"Sonic, breakfast," I could smell the food.

"Sonic, how are you feeling?" Cream asked.

"I'm alright, just a little sore," I answered.

"Open wide," I felt a shift where I was sitting, I could only guess Vanilla or Cream had down next to me.

Vanilla fed me, I could tell it was her. I tasted eggs and potatoes as she fed me. Even the drink she gave me, it tasted like orange juice.

"Sonic, we're back," I heard Tails and the door.

"Hey," I called, I wonder if he heard me.

"There you are," I heard Tails's voice again, he was closer.

"Tails," I reached my hand out for him to take it. I felt someone take my hand, "Eggman hasn't attacked has he?"

"No, Sonic. He hasn't. You don't need to worry," he answered.

I felt bored, but my injuries hadn't healed yet. Still, I wanted to move around.

"Sonic, you okay?" Amy asked.

"I sorta tired of sitting around," I replied.

"Good thing I got you this," I felt something on my lap.

"What is this?" I left it, a box?

"I guess there was no point in hidding it," Amy used my hand to find a dent and lifted it.

"What is it?" I left something cold and thin.

"It's one of those walking sticks for the blind," she said.

I'll have to use that now...

"Amy, I don't think you should have done that," I heard Sticks.

"N-no it's fine," I said, "I mean I'd have to get one eventually, right?"

"Oh sweetie," I heard Vanilla as I felt myself lifted and held, "come here."

I didn't know where she was taking me, or why I was lifted up until my hand reached my face. I felt my fingers graze my wet cheek. I was crying.

"Chao," I head Cheese and recognized the feeling of him hugging my neck.

"I know it's hard," the feeling of someone stroking my quills was soothing, I felt calm, "this is a change for all of us, you won't go through it alone. I'm here to take care of you. You can cry here."

I brust out crying, and I knew why. I held onto her, and I felt her arms hold me close. I had never had someone take care of me, this was so different.

"Shh... you're alright. Mama's here," she whispered.

I didn't know this feeling. I felt safe... like I was in a home that was warmer than a blanket. Is this... What having a mom feels like?

Sonic cried, he cried the tears he never shed. He was still a child after all. I wiped his eyes as he cried into my shirt.

"Shh... it's okay. You're safe here," I held him close and Cheese let Sonic hold him, "Sonic, I think I'll take you somewhere special tomorrow."

"...some... somewhere s-special..." his breath was hitching from crying.

"I think you'll like it there," I poked his nose and he tried grabbing my hand. I let him hand grab onto my finger, "There you go."

"Your hand is warm," he hand onto my hand.

"You can hold it to walk inside," I put him down and had him standing.

"I won't trip right?" He squeezed my arm.

"I'll catch you," I slowly stepped forward and he stepped after me.

"Sonic, you're walking," Amy replied.

"Yeah... I'm just trying not to fall," Sonic gripped my sleeves.

"Knuckles, you've been awfully quiet," I stated as I carried Sonic up the step and placed him on the couch next to Knuckles, "Here."

"Knuckles?" Sonic rose his hand.

"What do you want me to do?" He asked.

"Take my hand so I know you're there," Sonic replied.

"You just heard my voice," they were already fighting.

"Fine then, don't take my hand."

"Give me you hand!"

"No! You lost that chance!"

"Give me you hand!"

"No!"

"You two need to grow up," Amy separated them.

They were arguing, but that wouldn't do them much harm. Sonic was smiling, as well as the others. They needed a change of pace.

"How about some cookies?" I offered.

They stopped fighting and suddenly behaved, "Yes Please!"

To be young and playful. How wonderful.
