Chapter 33
Silence.
No matter how close he presses himself to a wall, Jungkook is met with nothing but an eerie quiet. There are other sounds, like the buzzing of the light overhead and the traffic outside, but no voices.
What the reaper told him must be true.
He doesn't want it to be, because if it's only Jimin, then that means he's completely and utterly alone.
Jungkook pulls away from the wall his bedframe is pushed against and walks to the door. He knows it's useless, but it's become a routine, the only thing he seems to have any control of.
The incubus has taken everything else away. His mind, his body. The only freedom he has is when that demon leaves him alone, but he knows, after being stuck here for days, that this isn't mercy. Jimin has no idea what the word means.
No, he leaves Jungkook alone to dread the next time he comes for him. As much as he tries to ignore the feeling.
There's never a moment to relax. Jungkook is on high alert all day trying to figure a way out of here in bits and pieces so Jimin doesn't pick up on it.
He's is terrified he might, most especially when the incubus is so close. When he's at his most vulnerable.
Shivering at the thought, Jungkook retreats into his room, hearing absolutely nothing.
Despite the reaper's words, one thing keeps coming back to him. No matter how many times he shoves the thought away, it's always there in the corners of his mind.
Hoseok, where are you?
He knows it's the last thing he should be thinking, but Hoseok is his only chance for escape. If he could just figure out where he went after Jimin brought him here.
The door suddenly pries open, squeaking on its hinges. The sound makes Jungkook take two hurried steps back. His heart drops.
Jimin stands there, eyes in a piercing glare. He's furious. Jungkook can feel it.
After every time the demon has touched him, reading his feelings has become second nature. It's almost like they're his own. He can barely tell the difference the anymore.
"Stop it."
The words come out so low, Jungkook barely hears them. He takes another step away, not understanding what Jimin means.
"After the past week, I thought you would've learned by now, Kook." This time the demon's voice is louder. Stronger. "It's like you want to be tortured."
Jungkook sucks in a shuddering breath.
"Are you starting to enjoy it?" Jimin walks into the room, shutting the door behind him. He saunters toward Jungkook until he's a breath away, gaze dark and narrow. "You must be with all these thoughts you're having. It certainly would be more fun if you were awake."
He tries to keep his mind blank even though his body is quick to react.
The incubus takes in his widened eyes and frozen stance. "You really should've done your research, Kook, but I guess I can't blame you. There's so much lore out there, you don't know what's true.
"If you're wondering, you haven't been asleep this whole time. This room is very much real. As is the bed."
There's a slight undertone to his voice, one Jungkook doesn't miss. Because even if he was dreaming right then, that's where he would be. Lying there, exposed and defenseless.
He needs to wake up, but how?
"You're curious." Jimin hums, seeming intrigued by it. "That's new."
Even if he may not be able to mask how he feels like he does with his thoughts, maybe Jungkook could use this to his advantage.
"Can I ask you something?" Jungkook tests the tension in the room.
Jimin must have some sort of interest because he motions him to continue with a flick of his wrist.
The anger has dwindled, Jungkook can sense the change, but he knows asking the wrong question would only bring it back.
"Am I," Jungkook trails off, disgusted by what he'll say next. "Am I the only one you've been with?"
The demon relents a hearty laugh. His crooked front tooth peeks out from his parted lips. "To be what I am and monogamous? Of course not, Kook. You know I'm well aware of what Hoseok told you. If you meant currently, then yes, but not for much longer."
Jungkook's blood runs cold, body as still as ice. He's running out of time.
The air is so thick he thinks he might suffocate, while Jimin just inhales deeply, loving the way it sparks with fear.
"Pity really," the demon remarks, tilting Jungkook's head downward with a pinch of his chin. "I've never been with someone who knew what I am. Not sure if I can go back to the way things used to be. It's all so thrilling.
"Too bad that you and I have some unfinished business, or else I'd keep you all to myself."
Instinctively, Jungkook tries to back away. Instead his knees hit the edge of the bed and he falls over, almost smacking his head on the wall.
"Is this an invitation?" Jimin wedges between his legs. Fingertips graze his thighs. "Do you want to stay here?"
Everything within Jungkook wants to scream, pull at his hair, and sob a rejection, but he gulps it down, mind empty, and dejectedly nods.
The incubus wraps his hands under Jungkook's legs, lifting them up and pushing them to his chest. Jimin crawls onto the bed before he inserts himself between them once more, hands traveling up the length of Jungkook's body until their hoisting him up by his head.
"Your emotions say otherwise, Kook."
Jungkook feels the incubus' breath at his ear.
"Don't worry," he says in a whisper, "This will all be over soon."
And he's right. Unrestricted, Jungkook uses what little time he's earned with feigned compliance and flips them over. He straddles Jimin.
Just a bit more pretending, and he'll be awake. Hopefully.
If this doesn't work...
"What are you thinking?"
Normally, the statement would sound like a scold, and at first Jungkook believes it is until he hesitantly meets Jimin's perplexed stare.
"I'm thinking," Jungkook pulls his shirt up and over his head, "that we should do something different."
"Like what?"
The incubus is open to suggestion, and that's all Jungkook's needs. He pins Jimin to the bed, hands wrapped around his wrists.
"I think it's time I get in your head."
Jimin's eyes flash in rage. He struggles against Jungkook's hold.
"This is my dream. You have no control here, do you? You just hope that I'll be scared enough to do whatever you want, which would've worked if you didn't tell me I was asleep."
He lets the incubus go, proving his point.
"It doesn't matter," Jimin bites back. He sits up as Jungkook gets off the bed. "Even if you do wake up, you won't be able to tell the difference between what's real and not."
For the first time in a while, Jungkook let's all his thoughts rush in.
He can make you see things that aren't there.
"You're poisoning me." Jungkook's knees buckle in horror.
"Unfortunately." The incubus sighs as if the truth actually pains him. "It's the only way to make sure my prey don't wake up, and you've been juiced up for days now."
At the word prey, Jimin's sneer returns, and it makes Jungkook sick to his stomach.
"Any moment now, I'll have full control of your body. You'll be too weak to fight me off." Jimin grips one of Jungkook's shoulders harshly. "I was going to be gentle with Y/n, but after the stunt you just pulled, I'm going to take my time with her.
"Just long enough so that when you wake up, you'll find her blood all over your hands."
