16 : The Distant Memory
Following Integra's orders, you followed her along with Seras into the fallen blimp. You looked back to see it was true, Alucard was face to face Walter. As you stared at the battle, a feeling of uneasiness arose within you. It was hard to explain, but it was there. You were scared to lose Walter, the fatherly figure who had taken care of you over the years. And even though it was strange for you to admit this, but you were scared to lose Alucard as well. Cause even though you never showed it, you truly did love him.
"Happy Birthday Aiko." You said with a smile. "9 years old now."
"Aww! I'm getting so old now." Aiko whined. "In a few years I'll have to wed someone."
"You're only 9." You said with a smile. "You don't have to wed anyone till your 13."
"Yeah but your 19, and you're not even married." Aiko mentioned.
"Don't remind me." You said with a sigh causing Aiko to laugh.
"I bet I'll even get married before you." Aiko said with a laugh.
"You think so, huh?" You challenged.
"Yup!"
The year was 1897, at the time, male was still dominant in mostly everything. Men held the jobs, voting rights, while women were simple housewives. Expected to stay home. It was a time where young woman were getting married at a young age, but those times were slowly changing. But there was still some those who kept to that small tradition of being married at a early age.
So in this time, it was a difficult for Kai and Aiko Kagami. Kai, at the age of 10, Aiko a new born, their parents had died of an illness. It was quite uncommon for unknown illness to come, but it was known to happen. After the passing of their parents, their grandmother had taken them in. Yet sadly, it had been 2 years since she had passed away of age.
"It's weird celebrating a birthday without grandmother." Aiko mentioned sadly. "It's just us now."
"I know." You stated sadly. "But we'll make it. I am sure to find myself a husband soon. Hopefully."
"How?" Aiko questioned. "You turn down every male that approaches you."
"I know." You answered with a sigh. "I just find that marrying the first man I see on the street silly. I would like to at least be in love with the man I marry."
"That's the thing! You dislike all men, and do not even give them a chance." Aiko explained, almost in a mother like way.
"I know." You answered once more.
Yet, you had every right to despise men.
"I'm going out now!" You called out to Aiko who was in the kitchen opening the gift you had given her.
"Where are you going?"
"The store." You answered with a small laugh. "I told you I was going to get your birthday cake."
"Oh! Let me go with you!" Aiko said in excitement.
"No way." You answered with a small chuckle. "I need you to watch the house for me while I'm gone."
"What?!" Aiki exclaimed loudly.
"Hey, you said you're getting old, didn't you?" You asked with a laugh. "Time to take some responsibility and watch the house."
"Fine." Aiko answered with a puff, and her arms crossed.
"I'll be back soon." You said with a smile, as you quickly exit the house.
You had bought the cake for Aiko, which the baker and his wife gave to you for free because it was Aiko's birthday. They were always such a nice couple, trying their best to take care of you and Aiko, since you 2 were now orphaned.
"Goodness, why must it snow now?" You asked as you tried to get home fast. But your efforts were stopped when a group of men had stood in your way. You had thought of going around them, but they obviously didn't want that either. They made their move when another man had grabbed you from behind, causing you to drop the cake.
"Hey! Let me go!" You screamed. "Someone! Help me! Help!" You had screamed, but no one was around to help.
That night, you were dragged to the side of the street, beaten and stabbed. The men had even gone as far as to undress you. With multiple stab wounds, it was a surprise that you were even still able to breathe, but your life was obviously close to an end.
You watched as the multiple men gathered around you, some of them even fumbling with their belt buckle. You were dying, but before you die, they planned to please themself first.
It was then that a sudden sound had caused the men to run, leaving you behind as the snow soaked up in your blood. You averted your eyes to the side to see the cake you had bought was only a couple of feet away.
"Aiko..." You said in a small whisper. "I'm so sorry, Aiko."
Yes, you had the right to despise men.
You had blinked for the moment, only to have your view of the cake being blocked by something, a shoe. Trying to look up at the person, you only wished this person could save you. You did not want to die tonight.
"Young lady." A deep voice said, sounding like it was tired. However, you didn't have much energy to answer back.
"I have been so hungry." The voice said as being bent down beside you. "Do you wish to die tonight?" Your eyes were beginning to blur, your body going limp. You had shaked your head slowly, you didn't want to die. Not now, or ever.
"Very well." The being said as you felt them gently pick you up. Your eyes went back to the cake once more as a pain shot through you.
"Aiko..." Was the last thing you had said.
Your body was no longer in pain, instead it was relaxed. Slowly you opened your eyes to come face to face with young man with yellow eyes, and wild raven hair.
"Hi there." The man said with a rather calm, yet devious tone. Slightly surprised, you quickly sat up, and shuffled away from the man. You had not forgotten the events of that night.
The man only chuckled as he watched your actions.
"You're a pretty little thing aren't you, Draculina." The man said with a smile, showing his teeth and... fangs!?
"Why don't you come watch. These humans are quite fascinating to watch." The man said as he looked over the edge of the building. Slowly, you made your way to the edge as well, although making sure you were not so close to this stranger.
"Did anyone find her!?"
"Not yet!"
"Keep looking men! We'll find her!"
"They seem to be looking for you, Draculina." The man whispered in your ear in a slow seductive tone. Surprised by the close proximity, you shuffled away once more.
"What's wrong?" He asked, a small chuckle escaping from his lips. Taking your courage, you replied back.
"My name is... my name is not Draculina." You said in a soft tone. "It is Kai Kagami."
"Hmm?" The man answered. "Such a lovely voice and name for such a cute girl." You simply blushed as you sent a scowl towards the man.
"Should you not say your name as well?" You questioned.
"My Master calls me, Alucard."
"Alucard..." You repeated softly.
"What are they looking for?" You questioned, still keeping your distance.
"You. Perhaps." Alucard answered back.
"Me?" You stated surprised. "Then I should go. My sister is probably looking for me."
"No." Alucard answered.
"Why not!?"
"You're dead. Or undead." Alucard answered back with that same smile. "This search for you has gone on for 3 nights now."
It was during that night that Alucard had explained that you were not a true vampire until you had learned to drink the blood of another. But you were scared, you didn't want to leave what remnants of human life you had. You didn't want to leave your sister.
With sadness, you had continued to watch for the rest of the night. And even watched during the next. But of course, they could not find a body. It was then deemed that you were dead, and that Aiko should be put in an orphanage after your funeral.
But there was no official funeral. Aiko was only 9 years old, and the money that was left behind, there was not much money left. Others had tried to help, but it wasn't enough. Instead, a remembrance was held in front of the small house, where a picture of you layed on the steps surrounded by flowers. And each night, you watched Aiko form the distance you were at.
But this night, everything was going to change. You had once again watched Aiko through the windows, from the roof tops of another building. You had watched her in her room, walk in and out of it, tying something to the ceiling. Then realization had hit you as she stood on the chair, and wrapped the rope she had tied to the ceiling around her own neck.
"No! Aiko!" You screamed as you stood up suddenly, wanting to rush to her.
"Shh." Alucard had whispered in your ear as he held you in place. "This is a human choice."
"No!" You screamed once more as you watched her kick the seat from underneath her, and her body hang from the ceiling with a struggle, and then go limp.
"Draculina, drink my blood." Alucard had offered once more.
"But..."
"You are no longer a human, you're a vampire. There is nothing left for you here in this human world." Alucard persuaded once more. And finally, you gave in, sinking your own teeth into Alucard's neck. Cause it was true, there was nothing left for you in this human world.
That night you had left Alucard. And almost half a century later, you appeared on the steps of Hellsing, where you had met Walter. Then Alucard once more.
"Draculina." A familiar voice said as you sat on the balcony waiting for that snivelling brat, Walter.
"Alucard?" You questioned as you turned around slowly, only to have Alucard forcefully place his lips on yours.
"How I've missed such beauty." Alucard complimented.
"Umm..." You answered, unknowing what you should even reply. "Hello..." You had answered shyly.
"You're still quite innocent Draculina." Alucard mentioned with a smirk. "How I would love to take that innocence from you." Alucard said in a seductive tone, his face nearing yours once more.
"Ehh!?" You answered with pink cheeks, trying to back away. "Wha- what!?" You stuttered.
"So you know each other." A young Walter mentioned as he walked back into the room. "Good, then I don't have to waste my time introducing you." You simply growled at him. Brat.
23 years later, Alucard was imprisoned in the dungeons below, after Sir Arthur Hellsing had deemed him as a dangerous weapon. It was a surprise that Alucard didn't even fight back. Yet Sir Arthur almost felt sympathetic for locking Alucard away. He didn't know how long he would lock away the vampire, but he felt sympathetic to take away your lover from you.
Then again, for the next 20 years that evidence of love between you and Alucard, didn't resurface. Instead, you had spent all your time with Walter who began to age with time. Until Alucard made his appearance once more...
"I don't want to lose you too." You said softly as you turned away from the battle between Alucard and Walter. You had your own battle to fight.
"Alucard..." You had whispered to yourself. "I love you too, my dear Alucard."
End.
