Chapt. 3 ~ First Day On The Job
(Y/n) (L/n)'s Perspective
~ • ~
This mornin' had been absolutely perfect! I felt refreshed and ready to take on the world. I dolled myself up a bit, using my mental image of the uniform I saw that one darlin' wearin', then put on something casual.
I trot over to the train, barely catching the thing before taking a seat which was kindly offered to me by a young boy. I thanked the young gent and rested my hands on my lap. This mornin there was quite a church bell.
She couldn't stop talking for even a minute, how she was still breathin' I didn't even know. It was a little annoying because of how loud she was talkin', but it honestly didn't bother me as much as I had let on. She had every right to speak, as much right as anybody.
When the town entered my view, I felt my heard pound excitedly in my chassis. A smile told hold on my lips as I stared out the window. There was no better feeling than being free, you can fight me on that.
The wheels of the train gave a rusty ol' squeak as it stopped. Me and a couple other rose from their seats and exited the train. I approach the little shops. I had a little while again before the diner opened.
I decided to give another knock at buying breakfast out in the shopping stands. Arriving at run, I saw it was ran by a sweet old lady and her worn down husband. They had baked goods and the delectable scent of apple pie.
Some grifter was trying to take advantage of these ol' folks. He claimed he was poor, and had clearly smeared some dirt on himself and his suit jacket to trick the old eyes of the elderly. Seeing by his diamond ring and the cuffs on his sleeves, he was a rich man, just a meater who was too scared to try and scam the bigger guys.
"Excuse me, my good fellow!" A cheerful voice called to the man. My eyes shined as I recognized this man. It was the attractive brunette I had bumped into only yesterday. "I would appreciate it if you'd stop trying to scam these poor elders. If you'd stop then everything with be jake and you can pay the same way as everybody else!"
The sour rich man grumbled as the familiar male and ruined his failed attempt at stealing from these people. The man then continued to talk to the elders, talking about buying a fine ol' slice of cherry pie. I gather my courage and approach the man. He noticed me automatically.
"Can I help you my dear?" He asked, adjusting his stance as he leaned against his walking stick that he obviously didn't need. I smile at him and give him another good look.
Clean suit, brown fluffy hair, brown hazel eyes like pools of melted chocolate, smooth tanned skin, a monocle and a bright smile that could make the sun hide in shame for not being as bright. My gaze fixated on his eyes as I adjust my stance and swallow, to avoid a voice crack from a dry throat.
"That was very heroic of you." I compliment in a soft voice, my hands curled into one another as I internally swoon.
"Oh my dear! It was just a good deed. Remember it and try to spread the positivity!" He exclaimed with a short chuckle that made me smile. I nodded.
"I will definitely keep that in mind, Mr...?" I hummed, hoping to get his name. Something I can remember when I see someone or myself upset, or when I need to spread the positivity. Just think his name and the world will brighten, even in the darkest moments when the sun is shunned away from our eyes.
"Alastor. Pleasure meeting you my dear. And your name might be?" He asked with a hum. My heart leapt in my chest. Such a wonderful name, my mind was chanting it over and over again.
"Al— (Y/n). S-Sorry... my name is (Y/n). (Y/n) (L/n)." I bow my head to him then our eyes make contact again. He placed his warm, yet gloved, hand in mine and gave it a firm, yet gentle, shake.
"Well... Ms. (L/n). Could this gentleman buy you something from this lovely little stand?" He asked, doing a small and dramatic bow which made me giggle. I quickly snapped out of it though and blushed embarrassed.
"Oh goodness, you don't have to. I-I was actually going to just purchase a small something to keep me going throughout my morning shift." I accidentally gave a little more information than needed, but he didn't seem bothered.
"Well, allow me the pleasure of treating you my dear." He hummed, then motioned to the menu. I hesitated, glancing from the menu then back to him.
"Just an apple should keep me well." I said with a soft and awkward laugh. He smile widely, then proceeded to purchase me an apple. Once it was paid for, he gently tossed it to me and I caught it. "Thank you, Alastor."
"Not a problem, my dear. It was lovely to see you again." He said, before receiving his cherry pie then leaving. My face was flushed a bright red and my heart raced in my chest.
'He remembered me...' I blush, but then it dawned on me. 'Shit! He remembered me! Oh how embarrassing! I've been such a foozler since I've been here!'
I take a bite of my apple and pull out my pocket watch. It was about 10 minutes till the diner opened, meaning I had to get there in 5 to get ready for the day.
Eating my apple, I quickly made my way through the crowds. My feet carrying my body swiftly as I managed to dodge, tall men, and children. Now the easy part, going to the diner. It was a clear path from here.
Arriving at the location, I see the doll I met yesterday was inside. She opened the door for me and gave me her adorable smile. Just that moment, I realized I never got her name. Noticing she was wearing her uniform, I quickly read her name and greeted her.
"Good morning Charlotte! Lovely to see you again!" I said, greeting her with a friendly hug, which she gladly returned.
"Everything been jake, (Y/n)?" She asked, moving away from me once we both let go.
"Of course' why wouldn't they be?" I ask, my excitement still lovingly clinging to my voice. She just shook her head and smiled, hiding her previous worried frown.
"Oh it's nothing! You're uniform is in the back, get changed because we're about to open!" She said, I nodded, understandingly and went to the back.
I changed into the uniform. Though I didn't like it that much, I must admit it was quite comfortable. My first day went along smoothly, which made me quite happy.
I made a lot in tips which made everything more jake! Life is gonna be good here! I just know it!
As the day was coming to an end, only a couple more hours left, I left content. A few people came and went. A few more people entered the diner. One on my side of the diner and two on Charlotte's. Charlotte seemed tired, so I told her that if she did clean up at the back tables, I'd serve the remaining people.
She agreed, poor doll seemed worn out, but she did practically own the place without Sean here. Her day seemed to consist of scolding the lazy janitors and younger male servers who thought they were too good for this job, as well as helping out in the kitchen, since the bus boy had quit. I felt bad for her, it must be difficult. I'll take up the position to help out her in anyway I can.
I take the orders of the customers on her side before going over to the single customer on mine. The menus were placed on the tables whenever someone left, just to make things easier, since we were understaffed. It was pretty jake to me, made things easier at the end of the day.
"Good evening sir, can I take your order?" I ask in a gentle voice. When the menu went down, my heart skipped a beat. It was him.
"Good evening? You mean wonderful evening! My it is quite a surprise seeing you here, my dear." He exclaimed, laying his menu down neatly, keeping eye contact with me. I felt my cheeks flush lightly, but I do my best to stay professional.
"Of course, I work here after all." I say with a small smile. He chuckled at that.
"Well of course you do! You're in uniform after all!" He chortled, before taking another glance at the menu. "I'll take a coffee for now, my dear."
"Alright, how would you like that made?" I ask, with a gentle, friendly, customer service voice.
"Black please, no sugar." He responded. I jotted it down on my little notepad.
"Right away sir." I respond, giving him another friendly smile. I go to the back and put in the tables order. One flapdoodle had made his order quite clear, and demanded it right away.
Unfortunately for him though, I can't control time. His enchanting wife though was quite nice. She ordered a glass of water, while he ordered a beer. 'Real classy...' I comment in my head sarcastically.
Once I was given the drinks, I hand them out. Starting with the whiny old man, then the small family, and finally, the attractive young man with those hazel eyes.
"Here's your coffee sir. Black, no sugar." I comment softly. He took a sip, looking quite pleased.
"Thank you, my dear. You're a fine waitress!" He complimented, making me blush.
"Why thank you." I reply softly. After I was called to grab the food. Once I did, I served the food, then returned to Alastor. "Are you ready to order?"
"Sorry, darling. I must leave. I'll be seeing you tomorrow though, I hope. Have a good night." He said softly, but still sounding very charismatic. He placed a $10 on the table and left. I reluctantly took the money and got the right amount of the tip.
The rest of the night went smoothly, besides a now drunken man getting dragged out by the cop who happened to be Charlotte's husband. I gave Charlotte the tip that she didn't work that was still from her side. She refused at first, but after a while, I complied to take half.
After this absolutely jake day, I was ready to go home and crash. My head was beginning to spin as I sat on the train. There wasn't many people on board, but that especially didn't bother me. I pull out the newspaper I had folded into my bag from earlier.
"HEADLINE: MURDER LAST NIGHT, READ WHAT WAS EXPECTED TO HAVE HAPPENED."
A bomb of discomfort dropped into my gut. I now realized why Charlotte seemed so worried if I was jake or not.
