You woke up feeling a heavy weight on your chest. It was your cat.

One day ago:

You rushed into the living room where the whole task force was

"Who's taking care of C/n? I let her walk around the building, but I haven't seen her lately. Where is she?" You ask anxiously.

You haven't been that attentive to your cat. You allowed her to wander around the building since you figured there weren't any threats around. You noticed that the food bowls you'd left out were never being eaten, so you got worried.

"Oh, N/n.. c/n has been in my room.. she hasn't been leaving." Matsuda said, he forgot that she was your cat. He had gotten so attached to her.

"Phew. I thought something bad happened to her" you sigh in relief

"I can take you to her. She's in my room. " Matsuda offers, before he realizes that it might have been inappropriate to invite you into his room.

"I mean, if you want to, I can." Matsuda was stumbling over his words.

You give Matsuda a reassuring smile. "It's alright, please take me to her."

You rushed Matsuda out before either Light or L could interfere. As you both were walking and talking to each other, he spoke up.

"Um.. N/n, I'm a little worried about you."

"Hm? Why is that?" You asked curiously.

"Well, Light and L seem a little... controlling over you," Matsuda expressed concern.

"Not at all. They can't and won't make me do anything I don't want. Don't worry," you tell him.

"What makes you think that?" You question

"Well... last time we went out together, they both appeared out of nowhere," Matsuda started off saying.

"Yeah, that was a pretty rude thing to do," you sigh, remembering.

"Well, after that, I got more work that made me stay up all night. I also don't get to manage you as much anymore" Matsuda says

"I mean, can you believe that?" Matsuda continued to rant to you until you made it to the door. He opens the door and lets you in. You see, your cat cuddled up in some of Matsuda's clothes.

Matsuda looks at the clothes and notices some boxers in a pile and rushes to take the cat off and frantically tries to explain

"N/n! I-uhm" Matsuda tries to find an excuse, but you simply grab your cat.

"Thanks for bringing me to my cat. No worries, I came here without giving you time to clean. Thanks for taking care of c/n," you say, sparing him from the embarrassment of his boxers.

"You are welcome to come to my room to see C/n." You let him know before leaving.

You leave the room with a smile. You noticed he had gotten some cat toys. It seems like he had really started to like c/n.

Back to the present day:

You quickly stood up and looked at the time. It seems like it has been a few hours since you fell asleep. You prepared food for c/n before you left for the main room where everyone was.

"...there's no one else in the car, right?" Light asked, as he watched the video displayed on the screen. It was Higuchi talking to Rem, but since Misa hadn't tornched the paper, it was only you who saw it.

"Hey", you walked in awkwardly.

"Y/n!!" Misa addressed you by your real name for the first time.

"Why didn't you tell me your real name?" Misa pouted while looking up at you.

"Well, y'know, the whole Kira and everything. I couldn't easily give it up to anyone. Light only knew because he happened to find it out," you calmly explain

"But Ryuzaki also knew," Misa said with a hurt expression.

"He needed to know because of the investigation." You lied, not letting her know it was because you trusted him.

"Sorry Y/n" Light apologized with a guilty expression.

"It's whatever," you reply. You already knew it must have had something to do with the system

New task: Allow Light to touch the death note and regain his memories

Reward: Teleportation (Up to 50 feet).

Punishment: Death

You stare at the task. You hadn't exactly thought your whole plan through, but you wanted to save both Light and L. Allowing Light to touch the notebook would make this harder.

"Y/n?" Light asked out of concern. He noticed that he had been staring at nothing.

You pressed accept before sitting down.

"This isn't sounding so good," Misa said, referring to the situation with Kira. It was the scene where Higuchi (the owner of the death note) was talking to Rem in the car.

"He can't possibly be talking to himself... who is Rem? Who is he talking to?" Light was asking these questions out loud to no one in particular.

"I'm not even going to ask how you can speak like that anymore." Light sighed

"Y/n, can you please tell us this? It will be a huge help" Light pleaded

"You should be glad I'm not giving up this information; I expect compensation later." You rolled your eyes.

"Y/n, what are you talking about?" L asked, not noticing your cryptic wording.

"I'm saying it's dangerous for you guys to know about it. Don't worry" you smiled, and it appeared as if you were looking out for them.

Light better pay me back when he gains his memory

"If he's talking to someone right now... it could be a shinigami." L stated

"He's arrived at Yotsuba's production!" Light announced

"The show's about to begin," L mumbled, eyes glued to the screen.

"Now, Kira, show me how you kill!" L said, not looking away.

You leave the room to get yourself ready since you know you will be leaving soon.

You were done preparing for the eventful night ahead of you, so you quickly ran up the stairs to get to the roof. They almost left without you.

"Sorry Y/n, there's not enough room." Light said

You stared at the space right next to Watari.

"Well," Light was thinking of an excuse to get you to leave. He didn't think you were capable of taking care of yourself.

"I need to be here, I will most likely be the one saving your asses here" you looked at Light, you could tell what he was feeling

"But-" Light once again tried to refute this.

"Okay, we have no more time. Get in!" L said urgently rushing you inside

After a while of silence in the helicopter, L broke the silence.

"Light, I think you should hold onto this gun." L offered a gun to Light.

"No thanks, firearms aren't allowed in Japan." Light refused

"I'm sure your father would say the exact same thing," L told Light.

"I'll take it," you offered, opening your hand for the gun.

"You?" they both ask in unison.

"Yes," you respond.

"Can you even operate it?" L asked you

"Mind your business," you respond angrily.

"What's happening? I thought we told the police not to get involved with the arrest." Light interrupted, noticing that the police were at the scene.

The helicopter and the car lights were on in Higuchi. He was cornered

"Stop right there!" A police officer yelled

There was a loud crash, followed by silence. Higuchi had his head down in shame before he quickly grabbed a gun to his head.

Side task: Shoot the gun from his hand

You accept and press on Misa's name. You figured it would be best to get Misa out of this toxic relationship first.

You see an arrow guide where to shoot, so you pull the trigger there. After you fired, the gun dropped down, and L and Light looked at you in disbelief.

Ignoring their looks, you watched as the man inside the car was weeping. After his dramatic episode, he got out of the car with his hands up.

"We've apprehended him." L got word through the radio

"I want you to put a headset on him as planned," L told the officer.

"Okay", the officer put the headset on him.

"Higuchi, how are you able to kill people? Tell me!" L demanded through the headset.

"If you're not going to talk, I'll take whatever means necessary to get it out of you." L told him threateningly

"The notebook," the man finally spoke up.

"You probably won't believe me, but if I write down the name of someone whose face I know in that notebook, that person dies." he continued.

"A notebook," L whispered to himself.

"Mr. Yagami" L spoke to Mr. Yagami

"Yes, I found it." Mr. Yagami picked it up.

"AH! AHH!" Mr. Yagami screamed.

You watched as Rem hovered over him. Rem looked over at the helicopter you were in and looked at both you and Light. You pretended not to notice.

"What is it, Mr. Yagami?" Mochi asked.

"It's a monster!" Mr. Yagami yelled

"AH!" Mochi let out a scream as well.

"What's wrong?" L asked

"It seems like only people who touch this notebook can see this monster!" Mochi said.

"Please bring the notebook over to the helicopter." L instructed

"Here it is Ryuzaki" L was handed the notebook and picked it up.

After a few seconds of silence, L spoke, "...It really is a shinigami... they really do exist." L spoke in disbelief.

"Ryuzaki! Let me see it. " Light grabbed the notebook

You watched them close up, trying not to miss a reaction from them.

"AHHHHHHHH!!" Light let out a loud scream.

"Are... are you okay, Light? I suppose seeing that notebook would surprise anyone" L said.

"...Ryuzaki... I want to check this out, I want to check the names in the notebook with the names of victims. " Light quickly switched back into character.

Light was holding onto Misa. You quickly hid yourself, listening to their conversation.

"Misa, I'm going to tell you about a special place. I need you to go and dig something up. Don't tell anyone." Light told Misa firmly

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Misa questioned. This time, she hadn't been informed about anything by Rem, so she was confused.

"Misa, just listen," Light said.

Misa furrowed her brows before nodding. You went back to your room. You moved back into the same room with Misa since you no longer needed to hide your phone.

Misa walked into the room and walked over to your side. She was anxiously standing there

"What's up?" You ask Misa while using your phone.

"I- um.." Misa was contemplating whether she should say something

You didn't intervene when Light was talking with Misa. You figured that you would stop Misa if she went to the place where the deathnote was buried.

"Do you have something to say?" You asked Misa, setting your phone down.

"Light told me to dig something up, but I'm not sure.." Misa was telling you

Your eyes lit up

I'm so glad Misa is finally overcoming her obsession with light 

"That seems dangerous." You explained, "If he truly cared, he wouldn't have you doing all this work."

Misa hesitantly nods

"I'll be here if you need anything, Misa. Also, you shouldn't tell Light that you won't dig whatever it is up. I will let him know later" you told Misa.

"I promise to take you out to dinner. We're finally free to go now," you offered.

Misa nods eagerly.

You rented a bike so that you could make your way to the site to dig out the death note. You figured out the location due to the instructions Misa gave you.

You looked up at the tree, waiting for Ryuk to appear.

"I've finally returned to the human world," Ryuk said with a grin.

"Hey! Ryuk! Down here!" You wave your hands.

"Hey, N/n" Ryuk greets you.

You smile before correcting him.

"Actually, my real name is Y/n. Everyone found out now" you laugh.

"Y/n, huh? That suits you" Ryuk commented

You grab your bag and get five apples out of it. According to the anime, Light only gave Ryuk one for this task. You didn't want to be stingy, so you prepared a few more.

"Here you go", you hand Ryuk the apples. He eagerly eats them.

"Hmm.. I remember you had an apple from the Shinigami world. Can I try it?" You asked Ryuk.

"Sure kid." He takes the apple from his back and hands it to you.

You took a bite out of it and it tasted like sand. It wasn't nasty, just sandy.

This isn't too bad. It's like edible sand.. it feels satisfying on my teeth as well.

"Well, the plot thickens. Things will continue to get interesting now. Originally, Misa was supposed to come here to meet you, but I don't want her to get involved any further." You sigh

"I'm glad you came here," Ryuk said, finishing his apple.

Is he saying that because of the apples or because he actually likes me ?

"Let's go. I need to bring the notebook to Light." You put the deathnote in your bag and started biking back with Ryuk following you.

You walk inside the building. You looked at the security camera.

'Isn't that supposed to be Misa there' Light thought

As you stared into the camera, you spelled out Light's name with your fingers and motioned for him to come down.

Light noticed this and made his way downstairs.

"Why are you here?" Light asked with a smirk on his face. It was much more sinister than his previous innocent smile.

You gave him a high-five with a piece of paper pressing against his hand.

Light noticed Ryuk when he looked behind you.

"Where's Misa?" Light suddenly asked. He didn't mind the fact that you were there. If anything, he preferred this. But he knew he needed Misa for the shinigami eyes.

"I've taken her place. She will no longer be helping you," you explain bluntly.

"You- but then," Light tried to hide his anger.

You told him "Misa wouldn't have given you the name either way."

"So you've finally picked a side? I knew it. " Light smiled, putting a strand of hair behind your ear.

You stepped back.

Why does he keep doing that?

"Well, right now I'm in no position to punish criminals. That's why I need you to punish them for me." Light said the same line he said to Misa.

"Since you helped me gain my memories back without interfering, I take it that you're on my side." Light explained his thoughts

Light smiled, "I need you to write the names in the notebook so you can punish them for me."

Does he remember that I wouldn't be able to go to heaven or hell? How selfish!

"Let's create a new world together." Light looked at you with affection.

You glared at him. "You want me to write names?"

"Yes," Light responded. It seems like he didn't notice your glare directed towards him.

"And spend the rest of my dead years in purgatory??" You asked, suppressing your anger.

"We'll be there together," Light responded.

"That's even worse," you scoff.

Light looks at you confused

"Why?" Light asked, looking slightly hurt.
