Chapter 10

I stood from the bed and approached Jake. "What do you mean by 'it is not good'?" I asked, anxiety could clearly be heard in my voice.

Jake rested his elbow on the desk and put his head on his hands. He stayed a few seconds like this, taking deep breaths to calm him down. I tried to look at his computer's screen to see if I could spot any clue about what happened, but Jake had already closed each file.

Once he regained his composure, Jake sat back in his chair and looked me in the eyes. He gently took my hand and intertwined our fingers together. I frowned, "What happened?" I asked again.

"I..." he sighed, "The contact I have just told me he couldn't get me the vehicle. It complicates everything. And that means, I have to go away sooner than I thought."

I looked at him in bewilderment, shaking my head. "No, no! But... Are you in danger? What do you mean by sooner?"

Jake stood and cupped my face. He leaned over me and rested his forehead against mine. I could feel his breath on my face, I could mostly feel his breath was uneven. He was as hurt as I was. "I am always in danger, you know it." He answered in a low voice. "But do not worry, it's not the first time something like this happens. I will find something." He quickly kissed me on the lips and then sat down behind his computer, gesturing to sit on his lap. He put his arms to each side of me and started typing fast on his keyboard, planting a few kisses from time to time on my shoulder.

"Last train to Berlin is at 11.26pm," he said quietly.

"Berlin." I repeated, "It's far away from here!"

"I know. But I need to lay low for a while. A couple of months, I guess." He put a hand on my cheek and turned me slightly on his lap so I could look at him, "You should go home. I will contact you as soon as I can and we will plan how to see each other again, if you still want to, obviously."

"Of course I want to!" I blurted out with a cracked voice, "you didn't even have to ask!" a single tear ran down my left cheek and Jake brushed it away with his thumb.

He passed his fingers on my lips and whispered, "I need to pack."

I nodded and stood up reluctantly. I looked at him while he was putting his laptop in his backpack. I went to the bathroom to check if my clothes were dry but Jake stopped me, "No need to give my t-shirt back, you can keep it."

I hugged myself clenching the soft fabric of Jake's t-shirt around my body. I tried to cheer myself up thinking I could keep something from Jake to go through these long two months without him.

Jake came closer to me and brushed a strand from my face. His deep gray-blue eyes stared at me with such intensity, it seemed as if he wanted to burn my face in his memory. He wrapped an arm around my waist closing the gap between us and he placed his other hand under my chin and lifted it up slightly. With slow movements, he bent his head down and kissed me.

I rested my hands on his chest feeling his heart beating so fast. Jake moved his hand from my face to my hair to deepen the kiss and we opened our mouths letting our tongues meet. Jake's hands traveled down my body and he grabbed the bottom of the t-shirt, took it off me and threw it across the room. I softly moaned against his lips as I felt his touch on my bare skin. Without stopping kissing him, my hands went down to unbuckle his belt.

We soon ended up both in bed. He leaned over me and I wrapped my legs around his waist to pull him closer to me. His skin was burning and so was mine. He started kissing every sensitive part of my body as I tightened my grip on him. I managed to reach his neck and nibbled his skin just below his jaw. He growled as his hands traveled up and down my body asking for more.

With every move I started to lose more and more control. And the more I let myself go, the more I saw Jake's grin getting bigger. It was no longer a soft and shy embrace. Every move, every touch, every scent, every sound, we were desperately trying to melt into each other, as if we were the air we both needed to breathe to feel alive.

I didn't want this moment to stop. Not only because I didn't want the pleasure to stop but also because I knew we wouldn't be together for a long time after this. I gripped his body, almost digging my nails in his back as if the more I could feel him the more he would stay. My body and soul couldn't let him go, but my logical brain reminded me it was the safest thing to do. So I wanted to enjoy every second of this moment, every inch of his body.

We both laid breathless under the sheets. A part of me felt totally blissed but the lump in my throat and the sting in my chest were still present. Jake pulled me closer to his chest and I discreetly wiped away a few tears that were forming in the corner of my eyes. "I don't want you to go." I said in a raspy voice.

"I know. But I have to," he kissed me on the top of my head and I snuggled into his chest, inhaling his scent. "You should get some sleep."

I shook my head, "If I do, you'll be gone when I wake up." Jake didn't answer and only tightened his grip around me.

My eyelids were heavy, and even if I wanted to stay awake, my body wanted the opposite. As I slowly drifted to sleep, I heard Jake's deep voice whisper in my ear," I already miss you, MC."

-

I shivered as I slowly woke up, the bed was so cold. I moved my hand on the other side of the mattress to realize it was empty. With a heavy heart I had to admit Jake has already left.

I heard mens' voices shouting outside. I opened my eyes and sat on the bed looking around me. A flashing blue light crossed the window. I instantly felt nauseous by thinking what was behind this blue light. The door was slightly opened, this is why I could hear the voices so well.

I jumped out of the bed and took my panties and Jake's t-shirt. With shaking hands I caught the knob and slammed the door open. My whole world crumbled at the sight of what was happening outside. I opened my mouth to scream, but I was so horrified that no sound came out.

In the middle of the small parking lot, Jake was kneeling on the ground, surrounded by police officers and FBI agents. They had handcuffed him and were yelling at him. When they started to stand him up, I found the ability to move again.

I ran in the parking lot barefoot ignoring the sharp pain caused by the gravel under my feet, and the first frowns from the people at the sight of my barely covered body. "Jake!!" I screamed, tears already streaming down my face.

Jake turned around and I saw his eyes widened with fear. He instinctively tried to get closer to me, but two officers restrained him. I managed to reach him when two big arms wrapped around me and started to take me away from Jake. I clenched my fists on Jake hoodie in a desperate hope they wouldn't take him away.

One of the FBI agents grabbed my wrists and tried to make me release my grip, but it only made me tighten my hands around the fabric. "Don't hurt her!" Jake yelled at the agent. The man didn't care at all and kept on pulling on my wrist. Jake looked at me, "MC, let me go," he softly said.

I shook my head, unable to speak. My sobs made my whole body shake and hurt my chest. All I could do was whisper Jake's name again and again.

The black-haired man stared at me. I looked back in his gray-blue eyes and saw they were red, filled with tears. I knew that if he could Jake would have taken my hands to reassure me. But he couldn't. I focused on his eyes, I could see pain and fear inside of them, but I also saw love. With a deep low voice that only me could hear, Jake spoke again, "I knew there were risks but I regret nothing. I am sorry you witnessed this. But now MC, you have to let me go. Please."

My fingers lost their strength when I noticed a tear falling from Jake's eyes. I released my grip and the men led him quickly in a black van. My screams teared the silence of the parking lot and I saw people opening their curtains to look through the window what happened.

"No!!! Jake, please, No!" The cars started to drive away and I tried to hit the man who was still holding me but it was useless. My legs shook so bad, he had to almost carry me to keep me from falling to the ground.

I didn't know how much time I stood there crying and screaming, minutes? Hours? But I finally started to calm down. Slowly, I looked up at the man who was holding me and frowned, "what are you doing here?! Are you working with the FBI now?!" I snapped at the man.

Alan shook his head and let go of me, "No. I don't. Let's go inside," he gestured for the door of the motel's room, "you need to get dressed properly."

I entered the room followed by Alan, and headed directly to the bathroom. I locked the door behind me and leaned over the sink. My stomach twisted and I threw up. I opened the tap to wash the sink and coughed, it was too much. My knees weakened and I fell on the ground, sobbing again.

I heard knocks on the door, "Are you okay in here?" Alan asked. I didn't answer but managed to grab my jeans and put them on. I also took my jacket but I didn't pull off Jake's t-shirt, I could still smell his scent on it.

I stood up wiping the tears from my face and opened the door. Alan was waiting for me, next to the door his arms folded, "Come on, I'll drive you to the police station."

"The police station?" I didn't understand why he didn't drive me to Jessy's or any of my friends.

"Yes...I have to put you in custody as Jake's accomplished." He replied grimly. I could see this wasn't something he wanted to do.

I followed Alan outside to his car. I understood why Hannah didn't react when she knew she was under arrest. Sometimes when life is too hard, you just can't feel anything anymore. And at this moment, I was nothing more than an empty shell.
