Epilogue: New Beginning
"Are you sure about this?" Bucky asked, absentmindedly fixing Steve's tie.
"I'm sure," Steve said. But he was nervous. His palms were sweaty and he was worried that if Bucky looked close enough, he could see the fear in his eyes. "Look at those two. See? They're fine."
Bucky followed his gaze to where Tony and Bruce were currently slow dancing. Steve wasn't sure how in the hell Tony had roped Bruce into that one, but nevertheless it was entertaining.
While everyone else in the gymnasium slowly swayed together, Tony led Bruce through a series of moves that included dipping and twirling and the likes. Pepper only watched on, shaking her head.
"We're not doing that," Bucky said.
"No," Steve agreed.
Steve took a deep breath and took Bucky's hand. Together, they walked on to the dance floor, hand in hand. Everyone was far too busy to even really notice them, but when Steve put his hands on Bucky's shoulder and Bucky's hands on Steve's waist respectively, the stares ensued.
No one looked overly surprised. In fact, a few people nodded and smiled, as if to offer support.
Sure, somewhere there were people like Pierce who wouldn't be so kind, but Steve didn't allow himself to worry about that. He was in his own little bubble with Bucky, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
"Rebecca finally agreed to see the therapist," Bucky said.
With every step the two seemed to move closer together. From the corner of his eye, Steve saw Natasha winking at them, and now Tony was hollering something about 'stucky'.
"That's great," Steve said, turning back to look into Bucky's eyes.
"She was much better already, but I think this will be good for her," Bucky said.
It was obvious that Bucky was trying to distract him from all the stares they were receiving. The thing was, Steve didn't really care. He was ready to shout out to the whole world that he loved Bucky Barnes, and he didn't care what anyone said.
For another moment, Steve allowed himself to gauge everyone's reactions. Already, people had begun to leave them be.
"I'm not prom king," Steve said. In fact, the title had gone to Tony Stark. "I didn't really want to be, anyway."
"Me either," Bucky said. "I would've had to watch you dance with somebody else."
They were now practically chest to rest, Bucky resting his head on Steve's shoulder.
All around Steve were teenagers ready to face the world and starts their lives. Steve thought that he, too, was starting something anew.
But this time, he wasn't about to do it without Bucky at his side.
The End

A/n: and that's it folks. I cannot believe I actually finished a story on this site.
Any last final thoughts?
I'd like to say one final thank you to everyone who continuously voted and commented, and to all those people who just read the story. It means so much to me. This is particularly fitting since I'm Canadian and it's Thanksgiving for us today. A side note, I decided that I desperately wanted an Apple Pencil to draw on procreate, but everything today is closed!!! Gah!!!
Even though I did have a love hate relationship with this story, I'm sad to see the end.
So I guess that's it?
I kind of actually want to do a Q&A, so if anyone has any questions please, do comment!
Bye? I don't know how to end this lol
