Chapter 9
"You English come here and taking our history from us has been happening too long. We will be taking our treasures back and you will never be found." the curator said as he held the pendant up in his hand. "This will bring Egypt back to its prosperous time."
Her eyes widened, how could she have thought that man was their ally? Derrick already had a cut above his head and he looked like he would have a black left eye. She kept her breathing steady as she really wished she had a gun at that moment. That way she could just shoot the few men there, grab Derrick and get the heck out of there.
Suddenly she heard a man come forward. Turning she saw what looked like a security guard whisper something in the curator's ear and his face got red, no matter what news that guy just gave it clearly pissed the creator off.
"What do you mean you can't find them? They were just near my office, how incompetent could you have been not to kill them? That was the perfect opportunity. Fine, we will find them so they can join their friend Mr. Chambers. You, Haut, stay and watch him, he won't give you any trouble." the curator said about walking away.
Marion was still on the level above where all that had taken place and with her back flat against the pillar she wasn't seen as the curator and his goonies walked to try and find her and Charles. The one guard went to stand in front of Derrick and took the scarf out of his mouth.
"I could just kill you now, English scum." The man spoke in broken english.
"I'm not English." Derrick chuckled.
Of all the time to correct someone, this would not be that moment. Turning to look their way, Marion got an idea and she hoped it would work. Aiming the sai right at the guard, she threw it with all of her might and it went right through the guards back splashing Derrick's face with blood. The man was frozen in shock for just a moment until his body fell dead to the side. Rushing downstairs, she went to Derrick who was still in shock as well.
Taking her top shirt off, she wiped Derrick's face and cleaned the blood off him. That seemed to wake him up. He saw Marion take the other sai and cut him free.
"You did that?" Derrick asked in shock.
"Yeah, to be honest I was aiming for his head, but chest works as well." Marion shrugged, not paying much mind to her words.
"That was aiming for his head?!" Derrick asked, shocked again and thankful she did at least hit the guy.
"Well, it still worked didn't it? I didn't see you coming up with an escape plan!" Marion yelled right back at Derrick.
Derrick then showed her his pocket knife and the part of the rope he had been cutting in secret. Seeing this, Marion tossed it behind her as she cut the ropes that were keeping his legs tied together.
"You saved me...again. I'm gonna have more life debts to you than anyone." he told her trying to lighten the situation.
Marion helped Derrick to stand up as she filled him in on what had happened with Charles in the office.
"You need to go call our families, we have to tell them that people are hunting us. Please Derrick, I need you to do this for me." Marion asked in a serious and hushed tone.
Derrick nodded as Marion bent down and pulled the sai out of the man and wiped the blood off on her soon to be discarded top shirt. Derrick held in the vomit that tried to escape his mouth.
"That's just gross." he commented to her.
"Well, it has to be done. Now go, they'll be back any minute." Marion said as she took off back to her previous hiding spot.
Derrick had never seen Marion not only kill someone but take charge and order him around. Why that attracted him to her even more made him concerned. Still he took off to try and find a phone. He had a lot of calls to make.
Taking a deep breath, Marion was now heading back to the meeting spot. There she saw Charles was walking up alone and she sighed in relief that he hadn't been found. Charles rushed forward and raised his gun pointing behind her. She barely had time to turn to see who was behind her when the security guard fell to the ground dead behind her.
"Where's Derrick?" Charles asked, looking around.
"Calling our families, they need to know what's going on." Marion told him. "Well that's two guards dead now."
"Two?" Charles asked.
Marion led him to the body of the other guard. Standing above the man who had a sai sized hole through his back, Charles was about to say he was impressed when Derrick walked forward.
"This place is abandoned but our families know everything, your grandparents are sending help but I couldn't get ahold of your actual parents. Either way at least they know." Derrick shrugged then looked down at the guard. "She told you she was aiming for his head?"
Charles now looked at Marion in shock.
"What? I mean I still got him." she replied as if she were offended.
"You could have missed and hit Derrick." Charles retorted.
"But I didn't, so shall we get out of here and regroup?" Marion asked clearly, finished with the conversation and walked ahead.
"We really need to teach her how to aim." Derrick told Charles.
"She does fine with a gun, now a heavier metal object, at least she hit the target." Charles shrugged as he followed Marion.
"Yeah, better the target than me." Derrick sighed as he followed behind them.
Marion had received a text from her grandfather telling them of a place where they could lay low until a plan could be formulated. It had apparently belonged to an old friend of her grandfathers and he had kept it just in case an occasion should ever arise that he might need it.
Opening the large wooden door, Marion went inside first guided by the light of her flashlight showing the way. Inside she saw the light switch and while saying a prayer, she flipped the switch and the light came on. It wasn't a mansion, but an average clean house so it would do. Turning off the flashlight on her cell phone, Charles and Derrick brought in what luggage they could carry and sat them in the main room.
"According to my grandfather, this place has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Weapons are stashed in an area he won't tell me until the morning and he wants me to set the alarm so he can keep an eye on that from his home." Marion said as she walked to the alarm pad and put in the code her grandfather sent her.
"I'll make a few calls and see what I can get on my end." Charles told Marion as he walked past her to where she assumed was the kitchen.
"You, we gotta fix that face of yours." Marion told Derrick and they now went room to room to try and find the restroom as well as first aid kit.
After finally finding the bathroom, she instructed him to sit on the toilet so she could look through the first aid supply in the drawer. She found disinfectant and a few bandages, that would have to do for now. Tearing the packet for the alcohol swab open, she turned to Derrick and lightly began to clean the cut above his eye.
"Are we going to die?" Marion asked Derrick out of nowhere.
"No, we've survived worse than this." he said as he looked up at her and she had an unconvinced look on her face. "Our families are strong, at least yours and Charles, mine just happened to fall into friendship with yours."
"How can we trust you? You betrayed us and yet I have saved your ass twice now." Marion sighed as she continued to clean his cut.
"Life debt is hard to erase, I am sorry and I would have never agreed to it if I had known their true plan. I don't think I even owed them really, I must have been set up." Derrick sighed disappointed in himself.
"Are the other two dead? Their bodies weren't in the gap." She asked him to change the subject.
"I don't know, all I remember is waking up tied to a chair, nothing beyond that." he answered as he took her hand in his and looked up into her eyes. "Please forgive me Marion, I swear all of my loyalties and allegiances are with you and Charles."
Marion nodded as she pulled him into a hug.
"Good, because now you know what I can do with a sai." Marion whispered and his eyes widened, she pulled back to look at him. "Don't do it or even think about it again Derrick."
