Chapter 6
"I love you Marion, I will avenge your death." Charles said as he readied himself with his two guns and started down the hall.
Marion opened her eyes and managed to hold her wound enough to make it over to Derrick. He was barely conscious. Looking at her, she saw him smile and he could barely caress her face.
"I'm going to save you, then you save me. Charles can't do this alone." Marion told him as she rested her body against his. "Why did you betray us?"
"Life debt." he barely managed to tell her.
"Everything was a lie." Marion said as she looked deep into his eyes.
Derrick shook his head best he could. It wasn't a lie, he wanted to tell her the truth, the whole truth but his time was short and he could barely talk even though he was stabbed after her.
"No...I wanted...you..." Derrick managed to speak as his body went limp before her.
"Oh no you don't!" Marion began to speak the spell from the book of the living that had helped another female explorer years ago.
Derrick's body had a light come from it and it covered the entire room. Then his eyes burst open as he looked at Marion who was barely holding on. He quickly sat up and took her in his arms.
"Marion, I'm sorry, I can explain." he started but she shook her head.
"You have to save me now." Marion said, handing him his phone and playing the recording as she went cold and limp in his embrace.
'Derrick, I brought you back with a spell from the book of the living, you have to use it to bring me back too.'
Derrick followed what the recording said to a t. Just like what happened with his body, a light enveloped around Marion's body and her eyes opened again. Derrick helped her to stand up and she slapped him right across his face.
"Ouch, ok I deserved that. I owed them, they were only supposed to take some artifacts, not the pendant or our lives!" Derrick explained.
She could believe that he sucked at gambling and was nowhere as good as Charles. Both of them looked to the hall and could hear shouting and yelling followed by gunshots.
"We'd better go help him." Marion said as they took off down the hall.
They barely got to the end of the hall, to the main chamber when the tanned woman held up the fake pendant and what looked to be a mummified baby? Charles was knocked across the room by one of the henchmen.
"CHARLES!" Marion called out to him.
His head shot up in complete shock.
"MARION?!" he yelled back.
The tanned woman finished the incantation and the whole place began to shake. Charles rushed past everyone as did Marion and when they finally reached each other the whole place went black.
Opening her eyes Marion could tell something was different. She was in a large room, with white curtains blowing in the breeze. Feeling something move beside her, she turned her body to see Charles was fast asleep. Looking down she saw she was dressed in a very revealing lightweight white dress. Standing from the bed she looked around the room and there were statues all around her of the ancient Egyptian gods. Hathor being quite prominent. Pushing the curtains to the side she saw what looked to be, at least from her studies, the ancient city of Thebes.
"What is going on here?" Charles said as he stood and was barely covered by a mid length shaw wrapped around his waist.
"I think she sent us back, all of us." Marion spoke from the balcony.
Charles rushed to her side. Looking over the edge they could see someone being brought into the palace in a chariot held up by men. The curtains and cloth covering the individual to make sure no one got a look at her.
"We have to get that pendant." Charles whispered to Marion.
"How? It's not going to be easy, she writes the rules now, as long as she has the necklace she is more powerful than anyone." Marion replied.
The chariot stopped and a familiar looking man stepped out, it was Derrick with a dark wig on as well as a royal tunic. He then helped a very familiar tan woman out of the chariot. There around her neck, Marion could see the pendant, it was small and hidden within the eye of horus emblem around the woman's neck.
"There, around her neck in the eye of Horus." Marion whispered.
"Great, she went back to ancient times, why?"
"I'm not sure, but we'd better find out."
The door to the room opened behind them, both of them turned around to see a group of servants enter the room. One group took Marion behind a screen and the other just changed Charles into a tunic right in front of everyone. After placing the dark haired wigs on their head. A winged necklace was placed around Marion's neck.
"A gift from lord Dal." the servant smiled and left the room.
Marion looked to Charles who just shrugged. He didn't know anything about the people here, he knew just as much as she did. Following the lead servant out of the room, they were lead to the throne room where the tanned woman sat at the Pharaoh's feet and right behind her was Derrick.
"That is her, my Pharaoh." the tanned woman bowed.
Marion wasn't sure but she had a feeling that the same woman that had stabbed her was turning her in for something she didn't do.
"No, that is my sister's daughter, my niece. She would have no use in your position." the pharaoh answered the woman who was now in shock.
Looks like her own plan had somewhat backfired on her. The Pharaoh stood and went to Marion and Charles, he circled them for a few moments before stopping right in front of them.
"Niece, would you have any reason to kill Aknat?" the pharaoh asked Marion.
She assumed that was the name the woman was using at the time.
"No my pharaoh, I have no need for anything. My life is filled thanks to you." Marion replied and bowed.
"See, there is nothing to worry about." the pharaoh said, turning to Aknat and caressing her face. "Go make yourself ready, I will come for you soon."
Aknat nodded and made eye contact with Marion before leaving the room. The pharaoh dismissed the rest of the group in the throne room. Though he did bring Charles to the side as Derrick walked up to Marion.
"This is wicked, we are not supposed to be here." Marion told Derrick. "I'm thinking, I just need the pendant. If I use it, maybe I can get us back."
"Netri, I am taking your husband to training, use Dal if you wish." the pharaoh told her before leaving the room with a very confused Charles.
Marion didn't know what to say or do as Derrick came up to her side and whispered in her ear.
"We are being watched, do something." he mumbled to her.
Marion looked up at him and she wanted to punch him in the face or even his gut. She did neither, she did take ahold of his tunic and pull him out of the view of the guards. Derrick was pressing Marion right against a pillar when they both heard a very loud moaning. Both Marion and Derrick looked to the room that was a level down and across from them to find Aknat in the embrace of another.
"She's using us, you mean nothing to her." Marion warned Derrick.
"She's my mistress, I will do as she asks." he tells her as if in a trance.
"Has she bewitched you? Used some spells against you?" she asked curiously.
"I will give my life and soul to her."
"That's a big yes. Derrick listen to me, she isn't meant to be here. None of us are. I am way to white to be from here as are you and Charles." Marion tried to convince him but only saw him leaning in closer to her. "What are you doing?"
"Keeping you away from my mistress." he answers as he pushes his lips against her.
Oh the memories of their night together came back pulling his wig off and tossing it aside. She pushed him off her, this confused him but he came to her again pushing his arms up against the wall. Pressing his leg between hers. She pressed her lips against his and when he replied, she bit him hoping to wake him up from the spell. Pulling back in disgust, he managed to wipe his mouth.
"What was that for Marion? Jees." he replied, coming back to his old self?
"Is it really you?" she asked.
"We have to blend in and can you not bite me? There are ears and eyes all around us. They tell her everything." he says as he walks back up to her. "I know who we are and all that but we have to play dumb or she will kill us and I don't want to feel that again."
He had a point there. Hearing a loud groan both turned to another room and saw Charles was in shackles, hung from the ceiling as what looked like one of the pharaoh's guards were questioning him. What for though?
"My mistress wants you dead, tell us where the other pendant is!" the man calls out.
"You are running out of time." a female speaks from beside them. "The true pendant is already hidden, it's with my child. She won't be able to find it, break the one hanging from her neck and you will return home."
"Anek?" Marion questioned.
