Chapter 4

"Marion, you don't want to do this, you are upset and angry and hurt. This is just all the emotions making a way through you." he tried to calm her down.

"Derrick, as much as I would love to be logical and all that at the moment, my body is definitely winning over my logic." she said as she pushed him down to the ground behind the counter.

A few minutes into their makeout session they could hear Charles panicking looking for Marion. Gently pushing her up to the counter and staying hidden on the other side, Derrick was having flashbacks of college.

"Marion, where did you go? I want to tell you I get it. Chambers is a great guy and if he makes you happy then I should just back off." Charles sighed again, running his hand through his hair.

Derrick was the one now rolling his eyes, Charles had eyes for so many women including Marion that he couldn't choose. At least that was what Derrick thought. Marion didn't say a word, she walked around the counter and passed Charles right back to the apartment upstairs. Whatever he did, it was not getting the best result.

"Do you actually love her or was she just there?" Derrick asked, standing up.

"You don't know anything about her and I." Charles said through gritted teeth.

"You are right, and I don't want to. You may have been in competition before but now, I'll make sure she never wants to leave my bed." Derrick said as he turned and left.

The next morning, a package was delivered. Charles' contact came through, there was a party and auction that night and they had managed to get an invitation. A black tie event just to hide the true intention. Marion hadn't said a word to Charles and stuck to Derrick's side like glue, and yes that did piss Charles off more than he wanted to let on.

"Miss Marion, telephone call." the curator said, handing her the phone.

"Hey kiddo." a male called to her from the other side of the phone.

"Hi Dad, about time you got back to me."

"I'm never too far away, kid. What's this I hear about you and Charles hating one another?"

The man knew more than he should for being so far away. Still she just sighed and did her best to explain. He was her dad after all. He listened as she told him the entire truth.

"Well kid, you gotta follow your heart with the boy situation and get that pendant and destroy it, no museum or human should have it." her father told her.

"Thanks Dad, call me when you can."

"Will do kid, love you."

Marion hung up the phone and looked around, she was alone. They had gotten to the point that she wanted to be alone to take the call.

"I have to wear that?" Marion said as she looked at the dress before her.

"Yes, I didn't pick it, I swear." Charles said, putting his hands up in mock surrender.

"Never said you did." Marion said as she went behind a changing screen.

"We can't keep being like this, we are a team. We were friends long before any of this." Charles tried to explain.

Marion continued to change into the dress. She didn't even look his way because she really didn't know what to say to him.

"What do you want me to say?" Charles asked her.

"Nothing, you know what they say? Silence is golden." Marion said as she finished dressing.

Charles blocked her exit, he was going to confront this head on so each of them could focus on the mission tonight. Looking up at him with an unamused look on her face, Marion sighed and crossed her arms over her chest waiting for him to say whatever he determined might help him in the long run.

"I want you, I need you. Jesus christ Marion I dream about you all the time and not just the happy go lucky what could be dreams. I can feel your lips on mine, your body conforming to mine as we make love. Yeah, I said it, love. We've known eachother since we were kids, like we somehow were destined to be. It kills me to think of the hurt I have caused you because I was trying to protect my own selfish heart. It scares the hell out of me to even tell you this because you can walk right past me, go to Derrick and he would give you anything and everything." Charles said as he walked up to her and caressed her cheek.

"Charles, I'm sorry. I wish I could go back in time to reassure you. To let you know I will always be there for you." she replied as she took his hand in hers. "Just give me some time, there's a lot going on at this time, I just think we-"

She was trying to focus but then she became lost in those brown eyes she had admired for so long. Trying to deny her urges, to deny the part of her that just wanted to grab onto him and never let him go.

"Right, we need to focus. I just didn't want there to be anything bad between us." Charles nodded as he saw her trying to hold herself back.

Putting that situation on the back burner, she went to the vanity to try and look like she wasn't trying to hold back every emotion she could. Charles could tell this was something that would need to be brought up later. He watched her apply her makeup as he tied his tie. Derrick came in already dressed and ready to go.

"This is going to be hard to fight in if the need arises." Marion pointed out as she turned to her friends. "Let's hope that doesn't happen."

"We're going to be with you the whole time, if that happens we can do the fighting." Derrick said as he offered his arm to Marion.

Walking right past Charles, Marion looped her arm onto Derrick's offered arm and the two left the room with Charles walking right behind them. He held in the eye roll that was desperately wanting to happen.

They were all silent on the ride to the location of the auction. Of course no one came out and said bad guys were buying here. It was at a well known museum, in the secret VIP area. Did the museum really not know what was happening in their own building?

Pulling up to the entrance, the car door was opened and Derrick got out first, he turned and offered Marion help out of the car. Smiling, she took his hand so he helped her out of the car. The long dark blue dress made her feel like royalty or even a movie star. Derrick looped Marion's arm through his as he began to walk ahead with her. Charles was not liking this one bit but adjusted his suit and walked right behind them.

"Mr. Aron, please have your guests follow me to the VIP elevators." a staff member said walking up to Charles.

"Thank you, We will do just that." Charles said as he walked ahead and now Marion and Derrick had to follow behind him.

The staff member led them to the elevators and after a quick ride down, they walked out to a large ballroom that had different things roped off and many people browsing them. Everyone was dressed just like they were going to the ball.

"The auction begins in an hour so please take your time to look at the many items on display." The staff member smiled and left them.

"Why does it look like most if not all of this stuff might be from the tomb they destroyed." Derrick whispered to his group.

"Because dear friend, that is exactly what it is." Charles nodded as he replied.

Marion went from artifact to artifact, all the precious things whoever's tomb that was, thought they would need in the afterlife. All of these things meant something to that soul. Pausing at a familiar looking chest, there beside it looked to be a small circular jewelry box. Looking at the plate beside it Marion read aloud.

"Resting place for the Pendant of Amshere (to be sold separately). Oh god, they did find it." Marion said, looking at Charles and Derrick.

They searched the whole room and they couldn't find the pendant though. Why wouldn't they have the pendant out on display if that was the main object of this auction? Confused, they watched as two hours later, the lights dimmed, signaling the auction was about to start. Charles sat to her left, Marion in the center and Derrick on her right.

The room went dark to hide the identity of the buys. The only two lights in the room are on the object being auctioned and the auctioneer. Charles took this moment and put his hand on her leg. He began to lightly squeeze, he was doing this to somewhat punish her as he felt she had done to him with Derrick.

Slowly turning to look at Charles, she narrowed her eyes at him though she knew he couldn't see anything. The buzzer to bid for the object was in Charles hand and she knew that meant if she did something back he'd end up bidding on something. To her, she saw this as an opportunity. Taking his hand with her's she began to move it up her body until it was right in front of her face. She placed feather light kisses on each of his fingers and was about to do more when the pendant appeared as the next object to be auctioned off.

"The long lost pendant of Ameshere, legend has it, makes the wearer immortal." the auctioneer started.

"Oh dear god." Marion mumbled.

"Sold!" the auctioneer said with the bang of his gavel. "For 100 million dollars."

"Holy hell." Derrick said as he took Marion's hand.

"We are in serious trouble." Charles said as they all quickly and carefully left the room.
