Chapter 3

Back at the museum the curator shook his head in shock. To see so much history destroyed at the mere chance of finding something that was considered to be only a legend. It truly made him sick to think about it.

"He'll want to sell it on the black market but I believe if this truly is the pendant of amshere, then it will fall into very dangerous hands.'' Marion pointed out as she followed the curator.

"Yes, according to lore, the pendant is able to manipulate time and make the one who wears it immortal. Not the best legend I would say but still enough to drive treasure hunters to this kind of madness." the curator sighed.

"We have to stop the sale then, do we know anyone who may know something about the black market?" Derrick asked.

"Yeah, but it isn't gonna be easy getting us there without being noticed." Charles said as he walked off to make a call.

"Do I wanna know who he's calling?" Derrick asked Marion.

"No, some things are better left a mystery." Marion said as she took hold of Derrick's arm and pulled him to the side.

Away from everyone else, Marion turned left and right to make sure they were alone when Derrick grabbed her head and kissed her. She didn't know if it was because everything that was happening around them but the passion he put into the kiss made her knees go weak. Her memories of the night before came flooding back and she felt her right leg lift up and wrap around his on its own accord.

"Not here, we can't but believe me, get me alone in a bedroom with you and I will give you all I got." Derrick told her and he kissed her one more time before walking to find Charles.

Marion blushed and put her hand on her lips. All that passion came from Derrick? How had she not seen him in that way before? Was it always there and she was just oblivious to it? Going back to the curator she distracted herself as she helped him organize what could be saved.

"All good?" Derrick asked Charles who nodded and put his phone in his pocket.

"Yeah, we should have everything we need tomorrow morning." Charles replied as he looked up at the sky and rubbed the bottom half of his face. "This is gonna be dangerous, I don't like the idea of Marion getting hurt."

"Neither do I, one of us needs to stick with her at all times I say." Derrick suggested.

"You mean you right? I saw you go to her tent that night, and I saw the smile on your face when you left the next morning. Don't be stupid though, break her heart and I will kill you." Charles said, looking right at Derrick.

"Same to you, she may think you two are only friends with benefits but I know that look, you've had it for her since we started hanging out in college. Why haven't you just told her?" Derrick asked, really wanting to know.

"I can't lose her, if something went wrong between us, I'd never forgive myself." he answered honestly. "Now you and her ar-"

"No, don't, it's pretty much the same thing you and her have, I bet she was expecting you that night and not me. Still I won't stop unless she tells me to. Just letting you know that."

The small apartment above the museum wasn't much but it was a place to stay for the night. Marion had text her father, letting him know everything she could remember and yet she didn' get a reply. However when she did the same for her grandfather he immediately called her.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hey kid, as much as I love you being in the family business, I wonder if you don't have a target painted on you like I did." her grandfather chuckled.

Her grandfather had been a somewhat famous explorer when he was younger, even broke a few hearts and artifacts in the process. Still she looked up to him more than any other person in her family. He was some of the reasons she wanted to be an Egyptologist.

"I take it you haven't heard from Dad in a while either?" she asked with a sigh, wondering what her own father could possibly be up to.

"Nah, you know him. He rides with the wind, sometimes literally. How are those two men that follow you around like a lovesick puppy?"

Marion couldn't help but laugh, ever since they became a team in college he would call them lovesick puppies that followed her around.

"They are fine gramps, all if just a little messed up. I have to find a way to get to wherever they plan to sell the pendant, no one should have that kind of power." she sighed.

"That puzzled me too, according to my research it would not have been buried with Anek, instead she entrusted it to the dead according to my records. So why would he blow up her rumored tomb?" her grandfather said pointing out a clue.

"I don't like the odds of them possibly having it, I think we still need to steal whatever they found back." she admits to him.

"Yes, I agree. Just be careful kid, love you."

With that the line went dead, smiling she turned around in only her towel to see both Charles and Derrick in the doorway.

"Grandad?" Charles asked, somehow probably already knowing.

"Yeah, he thinks they may not have the pendant but I don't want to leave it to chance, we have to get it back."

Nodding, the two men agreed. Sneaking away from the men to get dressed, she got back into the small bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Both men out there had seen her in much less. Still she knew that couldn't distract her right now. She changed into her nightgown and walked back out to see Charles half asleep on the chaise with his shirt off but pants and boots still on. Rolling her eyes, she didn't see Derrick anywhere and assumed he was getting something to eat.

Going to the chaise, Marion untied Charles' left boot and pulled it off. Going to the right, she had just untied it when the foot came up and pulled her right onto his chest. Looking up at Charles she saw him smiling down at her.

"Thanks for the help." he chuckled as he rested his head on his arm.

"Yeah...don't want your feet to be uncomfortable." she smiled.

Charles smiled as he pulled her up to his chest and just held her. He didn't want her to think he only wanted her for that, but because she truly meant more to him than any of the other girls he'd ever been with. Kissing the top of head he couldn't help but wonder if he should let her be happy with Derrick or if he stood a chance with her in the long run.

"What are you thinking too deeply about?" Marion yawned against his chest.

Shaking his head with a slight chuckle, he knew she could read him like a book. Running his fingers through her long auburn hair, she looks up at him with concern in her eyes.

"Nothing, just got a lot to do to get the maybe pendant back." he lied hoping she couldn't see through him.

"You still suck at lying, are you jealous I was with Derrick?"

"No, come on Marion, I know we aren't together or anything." he sighed.

"I thought he was you, especially after your comment."

"Yeah, well he wasn't and you were still with him."

Marion scoffed and pulled herself away from him.

"Really? After all the countless women you've slept with? I don't think you get to pull that on me." Marion said as she was about to go to the door.

"They weren't you! I couldn't lose what I have with you!" he calls out to her and she pauses. "I tried to replace what I had with you with another and it never worked."

"Doesn't change it though, does it?" Marion said as she walked out the door.

Charles yelled into his hands and sat on the chaise. How could he be jealous after what he had done with his many partners. He hated himself for even saying anything to her and now he knew that it would mess with him.

Derrick was in the staff kitchen as Marion rushed in and went to the right where she knew they stored alcohol. Benefit of having worked for them for so long. She took out a bottle and uncorked it, throwing the cork aside and taking a large drink. He watched in shock and awe, he hadn't seen her like this since her last ex in college dumped her. Remembering how hungover she was that time, Derrick put his food down and went to her, taking the bottle from her hand.

"Hey!" she yelped.

"Enough of that, you know it won't solve anything." he reminded her.

"He's a jerk! He has the nerve to be jealous because I slept with you when he has slept with over half of our class!" she yelped and hiccuped.

So this was about Charles, he knew that it would happen eventually. He didn't think giving in to wanting to be with her would cause this much trouble. He was about to speak when she grabbed him and kissed him. She'd only had a little alcohol and she was upset as well as mad and he wouldn't take advantage of her like that.
