Only fools fall for you...
Jisoo had always been cautious when it came to relationships. She has seen what it has done to idols behind closed doors and solemnly promised not to go down that route. There was even a golden rule set by their agency that they are banned from dating at all—only for a span of three years. She never let it bothered her too much, considering she never saw herself being in a relationship during her rookie years as she would probably be way too preoccupied with work to even look at someone that way.
"Relationships are way too tiring honestly."
She recalled saying that in the spur of the moment during their breaks from practice. As the other three members were chattering about which male idol would be an ideal boyfriend, she spurted that out, earning weird looks from the other three.
"But unnie, I know you'll have a boyfriend." commented Chaeyoung, taking a swig from her water bottle. Lisa hummed in agreement, "Yeah, you're very pretty unnie, and with your personality? Guys would be falling for you in no time."
Jisoo only smiled at the compliment. She has heard of that for countless of times; not that she was getting tired of it, but she had already grown used to it. She was very much aware of how her looks could draw other people in, which made her even more cautious as there are people out there who only like you for that attribute. She didn't want to be gullible and allow her heart to be broken just like that, so she built a wall around herself—for her sake and for the members.
Well, that's what she thought until she met Jeon Jungkook.
The male's name wasn't foreign in the industry. Even during their rookie days, Jungkook and his group had made quite a name and reputation for themselves. From being ridiculed for simply calling themselves 'bulletproof' to becoming one of the top boy groups in the world with a solid fanbase. She respected them a lot despite the struggles in the industry. Their dedication and effort they put into their crafts was admirable, and she couldn't help but become a fan. So one could only imagine the shock in Jisoo's face when one of the members approached her and asked her to come to their waiting room.
That's where she met him. At first, it diving into a friendship with Jungkook seemed harmless; after all, he just wanted her number and her gamer tag since they both could relate at that subject so much; but the more they talked, the more they trudged into deep, dangerous waters. Jisoo simply denied it at first, thinking that the fast beating of her heart was due to the excitement of having another friend outside of YG Entertainment; but the more she spends her time with him, the more she began to realize that it was not the case anymore.
She had fallen in love with him.
What started as a harmless friendship between a male idol and a female idol turned into something more. Jisoo thought that things would be over for them if she confessed. She was scared of the rejection at first, then she feared the thought of him laughing it off and breaking her heart. She didn't want that at all; she was terrified of that.
But he loved her the same.
Jisoo was euphoric when she heard the words that she wanted to hear escape from Jungkook's mouth. She couldn't believe that this was reality; that she was finally in a relationship with someone. At first, she was terrified of the new territory that she would be marching in. She wasn't even sure if she could provide the male a happy life; if he even sees a future with her; or if she was enough for him. But when she gazed upon those beautiful orbs of his, she knew that he was going to be worth it.
She loved him so much, yet...
Why was she on the brink of letting him go?
Her gaze hardened at the text message she had received from the anonymous person, feet planted on the cold floor as she tries to comprehend the attachment that was sent to her. She tries to find words to convince herself that whatever actions Jungkook was doing with Tzuyu in the snapped photo, was merely fabricated material and nothing more, yet the insecurities that she had started to creep its way into her heart and mind, invading her thoughts.
'You let your guard down, you're simply paying the price.'
'There are tons of pretty girls out there... Do you seriously think he would stick with you?'
'It was never meant to be in the first place'
And many more. She tried so hard to cancel out the noises; she tried not to let her insecurities get to her; she tried not to let it suffocate her, but it was getting hard to breathe. Tears threatened to fall down her face as the three other members have yet to take notice of the sudden distress she was facing. Just as she was about to move forward and run to her members' comfort, a familiar voice calls out to her.
"Jisoo!"
Her feet were planted onto the ground once again as her eyes widened in surprise. She turns around, and sees Jungkook running toward her. Jisoo remained immobile, unable to comprehend the current emotion she was feeling. Looking at him after seeing the picture became unbearable to her, so she averts her gaze to the floor. She hears his footsteps pattering closer to her, until it comes to a halt as she feels his figure looming over her. Her members were probably looking at them, considering that their chattering that has once filled the hallway had gone silent.
"Hey, I'll be talking to Jisoo for awhile, if you guys won't mind.." She hears him say. It goes silent for a moment; they were probably contemplating whether or not to leave them alone. Lisa cuts through the silence, "Sure thing, we'll just wait in the van."
The chattering of the members continued, their voices sounding distant as they walked further down into the hallway. Silence then followed once the girls were no longer at sight. It was just the thick tension between Jungkook and Jisoo lingering in the atmosphere. Neither of them began to talk as one refused to make eye contact with the other, finding a sudden interest in the floor beneath her. The male takes notice of this, and decides to be the one to break the ice.
"Jisoo, please look at me."
She flinched at the way her name rolled off his tongue. It sounded so foreign now. Jisoo bit her lip, hands gripping tighter onto her phone as she tries not to break down in front of him. It was difficult; you simply couldn't just stop old habits with one snap of the finger. She was used to bottling up everything; she was used to keeping everything to herself; she was so used to it, yet, she knew she had to stop eventually because she knew that it was hurting Jungkook as well.
The thick tension between them continued as the silence dragged on. Jisoo inhales softly, exhaling as she gazes up at Jungkook with glossy eyes. The male's face contorts into worry as he gently cups the female's small face, as if she was a fragile porcelain doll. "What's wrong?" he asks, visibly concerned as he thinks back to the practice that ended a few minutes ago. Was there something that upset the female while he had his back turned?
"Look, we really need to talk." Jisoo says, her voice slightly wavering.
Jungkook nods understandingly. "Okay, okay.. Let's talk."
With shaking hands, Jisoo flashes the image that was sent to her by an anonymous number, trying her best to remain calm and collected. She definitely does not want any of the staff to hear an outburst—it would cost them a lot of trouble. She watches at Jungkook's eyebrows furrowed, visibly confused as to what was being shown to him.
"Jisoo..." He began, looking at her in the eye as she quietly sets down her phone, her glossy eyes staring back at him, as if looking for an explanation in his gaze. "... That was in the past." He says, hoping his words would get to her, "You have to believe me this time."
Jisoo stares at him hard. "I don't know Jungkook... How am I supposed to believe everything that comes out of your mouth?" No, that came out as insensitive and rude. What are you even saying Jisoo-
"God. Not this again." Jungkook lets out a long sigh, running his digits through his hair in frustration, "Trust me when I say that me and Tzuyu are in the past." He clarifies, raising the tone of his voice. Boy did Jisoo not like that.
She furrows her eyebrows. "Why are you suddenly raising your voice at me?"
"Jisoo, you accused me of lying to you." Jungkook stated rather firmly, "I am simply just getting slightly frustrated that you're not listening to me."
Jisoo's eyes widened. "My feelings in this situation are valid." She says, feeling her tears starting to well up in her eyes, "How am I supposed to know that you aren't messing around behind my back? I clearly saw you being all chummy with Tzuyu earlier this morning."
"Jisoo-"
She doesn't stop. Every single fiber in her body was shaking as she spoke. "How do you think I felt seeing you with her after the fight a month ago? Do you seriously think I would get over that?"
Jungkook gazes upon Jisoo's small figure. Tears were at the brim of her eyes as her hurt expression gazes upon him. He pressed his lips into a thin line, "Just listen to me. Nothing is going on between me and Tzuyu right now."
Silence followed after that as the two stared down at each other. Their soft breaths could only be heard; their hearts beating faster as they feel the tension from before starting build up again, this time it felt more intense as their emotions were all over the place. Jisoo scoffed, causing Jungkook to be slightly taken aback. "Do you seriously think I'm going to crawl right back to you after hearing that?" She shakes her head, "I'm not gullible as you think I am, Jungkook."
The male did not like how his name rolled off her tongue; how there was a hint of malice and venom in each syllable. It felt foreign now—hearing his name coming from her. It was like he was talking to a complete stranger. Clearly offended, Jungkook bites back. "So now you trust some stranger more than your own boyfriend?" He slightly raises his tone, feeling his frustration and anger slowly starting to bubble up in the pit of his stomach.
"I have every right to doubt you in this situation Jungkook, especially after what I saw back at the practice room." Jisoo cried, her voice cracking again. A single tear rolled down her right cheek, to which she quickly wiped with her forearm as she continued, "Now tell me that isn't enough of a reason for me to doubt you."
"Jisoo." Jungkook takes a deep breath, "How many times do you want me to repeat that there is nothing going on between me and Tzuyu?"
The female stares at him hard. "As many times as I need to." Jisoo finally says, "Because right now, I don't think I can trust you-"
"Why?"
Jisoo looks into Jungkook's eyes and sees the look of utter betrayal and disbelief written all over his face. "Why won't you just trust me?" He asks, his tone softening, "Don't you know how much it hurts me hearing you say that you don't trust me?"
Jisoo bit her lip as the male continued talking. "Are your feelings back then still the same?"—a vivid image of Jisoo and Hanbin laughing together somehow flashed in the back of his mind—"Or have they changed already?"
Jisoo looks clearly taken aback. She thinks back to all the times she hung out with Jungkook, reminiscing the laughter and joyous memories they shared back then. The feeling of butterflies fluttering in her stomach felt nostalgic, even comforting in some way, and she wished that she could return to those times. She then thought about Hanbin, who she leaned on dearly during the fight with Jungkook. Surely there were lots of happy times in the days they have been together, but she never feels the butterflies; she never felt like the happiest person in the world under his care; she only felt those things with Jungkook. That's right...
Hanbin was just a friend, and nothing more.
"That's not true Jungkook," She lets out breathily, "I just don't know what to do right now..."
"This is my first relationship... One could only imagine the amount of confusion I felt when I saw that anonymous number sent me a picture of you and Tzuyu together." Jisoo looks up to him, "I didn't know what to do. No one around me reassured me that you weren't going to cheat on me because I only kept it to myself." Unbeknownst to her, the tears that she had been holding back for the past few minutes have finally rolled down her cheeks, "And I don't know... I know I should've told you... I should've told you everything from the beginning." With one breath, she whispers, "I'm sorry for hurting you."
"Jisoo.." Jungkook whispers as the female wipes her tears again before she spoke again, "I'm sorry for hurting you to the point where you feel like I no longer share the same feelings for you. You matter so much to me Jungkook." She sniffles as she covers her mouth, her voice shaky as she looks up at him, "I'm sorry..."
In a heartbeat, Jungkook pulls Jisoo into an embrace. "God, I'm sorry too..." He said, "If only I had mustered up the courage to talk to you then maybe... If only I had run after to you back then... Maybe we wouldn't have been like this." He then pulls away, hands gently cradling her arms gently. A tear escapes Jungkook's eye as he gazes upon Jisoo's teary face, "You mean a lot to me too... And I don't think I would've been with anyone else if we broke up. You don't even know how much I love you." His heart starts to pound against his chest as he gently cups her small face in his warm, soft hands. He slowly leans in, planting a meaningful kiss on her forehead. This was for all the times he had missed her; how he missed being online and gaming with her, destroying a bunch of noobs together.
He moves to her tear-stained cheeks, planting another soft kiss. This was for all the pain he put her through; this was for the regret he feels for not contacting her sooner. She must've been lonely for an entire month. Then, he pulls away before staring at her lips. As if drawn by it, he leans closer.
The final kiss was a loving and gentle one on her lips. This was for the proof that Jisoo needed; that he only has eyes for her and no one else; that he would pluck all the stars in the sky for her; that he would indeed be there for her through the tough times. She knew that he was the one, and thus she melts under his gentle touch and kiss, returning the intimate gesture.
They, indeed, are fools in love.
