42 | hanbin strikes again
DISCLAIMER: I absolutely adore Hanbin with all my heart. So please keep in mind that whatever I write here is purely for fanfiction purposes and in no way I am implying that this is how they act in real life. Hanbin has shown multiple cases of how caring and genuine he is, which is the exact opposite of how I portrayed him in my story. Thanks for reading, now enjoy 😉
Words couldn't describe what Hanbin felt the moment he first met Jisoo. She was introduced to them as a female trainee who'll be joining them for their commercial. She was dressed plainly, sporting a cropped pink sweater with plain blue jeans and white sneakers. However, she was certainly an eye candy, her looks meeting the Korean beauty standard.
Though it wasn't her looks that Hanbin fell for, it was the bright personality that came with her. The moment the manager had left her with the boys, they instantly clicked. It was as if they knew each other for a long time; and honestly, the male felt euphoric. He always finds himself smiling whenever she starts to smile when she was instructed to, which would result into numerous takes considering his role required to be serious and moody.
Everything about Jisoo just felt so right with him, and soon, that feeling matured to infatuation—and before he knew it, Hanbin was in love with her. There was simply no other way to describe it. His heart would beat fast whenever he would pass her by the corridor; he would often find himself looking for her whenever he would enter their practice room; and it the feeling of butterflies fluttering in his stomach would only be there if she was present.
He really did love her. Hanbin had been by her side as a loyal friend—someone she could trust wholly without a second thought. Through their years of friendship, the latter was very sure that Jisoo might've felt the same way at a certain point. He was so certain, which is why he couldn't understand why she ended up with someone else.
When the news of them dating came out, Hanbin was distraught. Even if it was fabricated, there was something about the way Jisoo looked at him that ticked him off. He brushed it off at first, thinking that it was an act to fool the public. After all, the female was no newbie to the acting department; however, that wasn't the case after all.
News of them going out on dates started to fill his news feed, and it seemed like the company had no intentions of breaking the two. Despite the clear evidence of them staying together being thrown onto his face, Hanbin continues to brush it off, thinking of it as a phase that'll soon pass, right?
He continued to delude himself into thinking that he still had a chance with her, even though there was someone else. He refused to believe that Jisoo was with Jungkook; he hadn't even gotten the chance to confess what he really feels towards her. He built brick walls of fantasies in his head, unbeknownst to the daunting reality that was fast approaching. He was so engrossed in his fantasy and delusions, to the point when he was finally given a reality check, the brick wall toppled all over him.
Seeing the way Jisoo looked at Jungkook during their SBS interview was all it took for him to realize that she never looked at him like that. The aura that she exuded when she sat beside Jungkook was way too different from the way she was with him; and that absolutely broke him.
He cut himself off from his members, locking himself in his own studio. Drafts and audio samples started to pour in as Hanbin continues to vent out his heart and soul. The only woman he actually sees himself with had been swept off her feet by another. He wanted it to be him; he wanted it to be him who will hold her hand for the rest of her life; he wanted to be there for her when things get tough; he wanted to shower her with love and respect; he wanted to be with her so bad.
But what was he supposed to do?
What was he supposed to do when he could clearly see that Jisoo was happy. He didn't want to take that away from her, not when she looked absolutely beautiful smiling like that. It wounded him deeply, but he knew he was going to have to live through it. Love was indeed a dangerous game, and perhaps in this round, Hanbin had suffered a painful loss.
Maybe he couldn't accept it wholly for now, as the wounds became deeper and it became unbearable for him to breathe. Perhaps one day, Hanbin will be able to accept it with a smile on his face. It'll take some time to heal those scars, but he knows that the end result would definitely be worth it. For Jisoo, he was willing to go through this.
So he left the situation at that, allowing himself to adjust to the countless articles praising the couple for having a healthy relationship. It seemed like the mass media and netizens were fully accepting of the couple, so there was nothing for him to worry about; until that fateful day.
Hanbin remembered how his blood ran cold upon hearing the news of Jisoo being sent to the hospital after one of Jungkook's sasaengs attacked her in BLACKPINK's dorm. He was mad. He was angry that he wasn't there; he was furious that the woman he cared for so deeply got hurt; he was mad at the security for allowing a stranger to freely walk by them; and most of all, he was mad at Jungkook.
None of this wouldn't have happened if Jisoo hadn't met the guy. She wouldn't have been in that situation if she just stuck to the golden rule. He thought she wouldn't even be in the hospital if she had dated him instead. The moment he and Jungkook locked eyes at the hospital, Hanbin instantly decided that he wasn't the right one for her.
He wants them to break up. Even if it meant for him to get his hands dirty.

D-70 before the collaboration stage
Hanbin discreetly threw a dirty look at Jungkook's back as the male walks side by side with Jisoo to the producer. He wasn't stupid, it was clear to him that the two would be tasked to have a collaboration stage together in order to bring in more views from the public. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, which did not go unnoticed by his fellow rapping partner, Bobby. The male quirks an eyebrow, "You good Hanbin?" He inquires casually, gently tapping him on the back.
The aforementioned male looks before nodding, "Yeah.. Just need to make a phone call first."
Bobby then immediately lets go of the male, "Alright man, just make it quick.. I feel like this meeting's going to be quick since Namjoon-ssi is in our unit."
Hanbin just nods again before fishing out the phone from his pocket. He sneaks past the other units, who seemed to be way too engrossed in their project to even notice him. He quickly dials a number, pressing the device to his ears as he heads out of the practice room. The other line was ringing as he makes a beeline towards an empty hallway so that no one would eavesdrop.
After four rings, the other line picks up. "Hello?" A male voice could be heard from the other side. Hanbin cockily smirks, "You still have more material to send? I think one photo wasn't enough."

9:50 AM
After briefly explaining how their collaboration might be, the producer man left the couple. Jisoo turns to Jungkook, who in turn looks at her in the eye. She could tell by the troubled expression on the male's face that he has a lot to say—she did to, and perhaps the male could also sense it. The tension between them was thick as the silence continued to drag on. The chattering of the other idols fall deaf to their ears as they could only hear the sound of their quickened heartbeats. It was indeed painful, seeing how their relationship became like this.
Jisoo knew she had to break the tension, otherwise the people around them will begin to take note of their awkward atmosphere. So she smiled warmly at him, before gently cupping the male's cheek with her right hand. Her thumb grazing against the scar on his left cheek. Jungkook breathes out a soft sigh at her touch; she still had an effect on him, and he was glad that it never changed.
"I know we have a lot to talk about.." She said in a hushed down, "But right now isn't the time. People are watching." Her gaze then darts down to the crowd of idols before looking back at him, "Shall we discuss our collaboration stage?"
Jungkook smiles warmly. "Sure thing."
They spent the next thirty minutes discussing what kind of performance they should do: was it going to be vocal or dance? Jungkook had suggested a vocal performance, as he was considering the fact that Jisoo had been slammed countlessly by netizens about her dancing skills—though he wasn't going to voice that concern to her. Plus, she had a pleasant vocal tone—it was rich, sultry, husky and deep, a combination that was completely uncommon amongst female idols. For short, he wants everyone to look at his girlfriend and think of her as talented. He wanted them to see that it was him who was lucky to have her.
Jisoo unknowingly scrunches her nose at the decision, pursing her lips as she looks at Jungkook. "How about a mixture of both?" She suggests, which completely threw the male off. He juts his head towards, making sure his hearing was alright, "Both?" He repeats.
The female nods affirmatively, looking at Jungkook. "It would be a shame if my boyfriend's dancing skills aren't being highlighted." She says, ever so casually, not knowing of the impact she had on him. His heart clenched. It took him only a single interaction with her to realize how he missed her dearly. He can't wait to fix things between them so that he could talk to her everyday.
"Alright... What kind of songs do you want to do?" Jungkook inquired.
Jisoo pondered. What song could they perform as a couple? She thought that the song should hit close to home—something that reflects their relationship. The performance would definitely feel more meaningful if the song describes them—two imperfect beings that perfectly fit each other. She then looks at Jungkook, who seemed eager to hear her answer. Her cheeks flushed red, "I don't know... But I'm sure we'll figure something out."
"So it's settled? You want to do a dance and vocal performance?" He inquired. The female nods to clarify, "I am one hundred percent positive that I want to do it."
Jungkook chuckles. "You sure? You might get tired from the routine."
Jisoo lets out a soft gasp, acting offended as she gives the male a playful smack. "Are you underestimating me, Jeon Jungkook?"
Jungkook smiles. "Not at all.. Just worried for you."
Jisoo stares at him with wide eyes before her gaze softens. 'I really missed you..' She thought to herself.

10:15 AM
"Alright! Gather around!"
Jisoo looked up from her phone as the practice for the vocal unit was cut abruptly by the sound of a man's booming voice over the speakers. A man who appeared to be around his early-twenties stood at the center of the practice room. His hair was dyed in cobalt blue, swept to the side in order to emphasize his undercut. He wore an oversized plain white t-shirt paired with black shorts that were cut just right above the knees and a white pair of branded sports shoes. Judging by the way he was dressing, Jisoo would've guessed that he was a choreographer.
Jinyoung nudged the female on her shoulder before softly telling her to get up. She followed him closely as the idols huddled in front of the man. "A pleasant morning to you all." He greeted as the room was then filled with responses. The man's voice boomed throughout the practice room as he spoke, "I'm Han Jungho and I'll be in-charge of your choreography for your unity stage."
'Unity stage?' The first thing that came to Jisoo's mind was the unity dances she had always participated in middle school up until high school. She may not have been the best dancer back then, but she could recall that she always had fun whenever she done those. However, this was on a entire different league; she was surrounded by people who have probably dedicated nearly half of their lives to dancing. She doesn't want to become a liability—she was going to make sure that she would be able to catch up in terms of learning the choreography.
"Since there's a lot of you here, I was adviced to separate you guys into two groups so that each of you will have a chance to shine." He then proceeds to group them accordingly. Jisoo was placed in the second group, which had a fair amount of good dancers. Her eyes scanned the group until her eyes landed on a certain black haired female.
"Seulgiiii" She called out as she saunters over to the female. The aforementioned female looks over and smiles gleefully, pulling her to an embrace, "Jisoooo! I'm glad we're on the same team."
Jisoo chuckles as she pulls away. "I'm not that good in dancing to be honest, so please take care of me." She teased, earning a smack on the forearm from Seulgi.
"Nonsense. I think you're a fine dancer." She countered. Their conversation was then cut short when the choreographer's voice boomed through the speakers again, "Alright, now that you have been assigned to your groups, I'll be now proceeding to teach you the choreography. So could you kindly spread out."
The idols obediently formed three lines considering the vast area. Jisoo had her arms stretched out sideways as she adjusts to the others. She was placed at the second line, a little farther from the choreographer but just enough so that she could see. Once everyone had adjusted and were distanced properly from each other, the learning commenced. Jungho was indeed a unique choreographer; this was evident in the way he inputs detail and technique into the choreography.
Jisoo couldn't help but feel bad as she thought she might've ruined the choreography with her 'stiff' dancing. This continued on for an hour and half. They weren't even halfway through the choreography, but it was to be expected considering the large crowd. Jungho then quickly announces over the microphone that they could take a twenty minute break. The idols cheered in satisfaction as they dispersed to their different friend groups.

11:45 AM
Jungkook lets out a satisfied huff after he took three big gulps from his water bottle. He then scans the room, eyes searching for a certain female. He spots her talking to one of her friends—Seulgi, if he could recall. They seemed to be having lighthearted chatter as smiles were plastered on their faces. He finds himself smiling fondly; her happiness was indeed his own. He continues to watch over her until she then proceeds to run through the choreography with Seulgi.
She seemed to be having a difficult time on the footwork and probably wanted to ask Seulgi for advice. Jungkook felt the need to walk over there and show off his skills a bit. Just as he was about to get up, a male had already sauntered over to them. He knows this male all too well, it was Hanbin. 'That sneaky little...' He held back on the curse words as he watches them closely.
Hanbin casually shows them how it was done, earning praises from both Jisoo and Seulgi. His stomach churned at the sight. He grips onto his water bottle tightly, trying his very best to keep his temper down. Jungkook wasn't always a violent person, but he now has the sudden urge to punch the male in front of all these idols. 'He's great at putting on an act.. I'll give him that.'
Just when things couldn't get any worse, Hanbin had the absolute audacity to put his arm around Jisoo's shoulder, pulling her close as they laugh about her mistake when executing the choreo. Jungkook was now seething with anger and in jealousy. He knows Hanbin is aware of what he was doing, and it was pissing off the younger male.
'Calm down Jungkook, calm down...' He voiced in his head, taking in deep breaths. Hoseok noticed the sudden distress in the male's expression and proceeds to check on him, "Are you okay?" the older asks.
"I'm perfectly fine, hyung."

5:00 PM
"Thank you for your cooperation! I'll see you all tomorrow."
The room was filled with cheers as the idols began to disperse to different parts of the practice room. People began filing out right after they got a hold of their personal belongings. Jisoo heads out of the room, following closely behind the pinks after she bade Seulgi goodbye. The day was already over before she even knew it. It was refreshing to be able to interact with other idols; sure she would've loved it if she could perform with the girls all the time, but this was definitely a nice change. She listens intently to the conversation of Jennie and Lisa; she would've been talkative if she actually understood what they were talking about.
It was a shame that iKON had to leave early since they had a scheduled photoshoot; if it weren't for that, Jisoo would've been chatty with the boys. As she walked in silence, her mind wanders off to Jungkook. She barely was able to interact with him throughout the day since they were in different units, and on breaks she would often find him talking to either his hyungs or his friends. 'Maybe I'll have a chance tomorrow..' She thought.
Jisoo then felt a slight vibration in her pocket. She fishes out her phone and sees that she had received another message from an unknown number. Unconsciously, she opens the message and was greeted by a déja-vu feeling.
