A week after the battle at Kagesama fort, Koji, his alliance and six of the Kagesama Samurai rides together toward the Kagesama castle. The sky is stormy, wind blows and send chills on the 13 samurai. Slowly they begin to see the giant Kagesama castle, the gate was damaged and the walls are broken. But people seems oddly peaceful around the castle. Miyamoto eyes one of the Ikeda samurai, Miyamoto raises his brow at how oddly tensed they look but decided to brushes off the feeling as it may be due to the war. They together entered the broken gate of Kagesama castle, Yuriko's eyes glisten with tears as her mother, Lady Mikasa walks out of the door, opening her arms inviting Yuriko in for a hug.
Yuriko climbs off her horse and quickly runs to lady Mikasa and hugs her. Tears streams down Yuriko's cheeks as she embraces her mother tightly, glad that she is alive. Miyamoto smiles from afar, Yuriko wipes her tears away before she begins to introduce everyone. Lady Mikasa smiles and bows to Koji, referring him as Lord Masaharu. Koji then did the same and bow. Yuriko was about to introduce Lady Mikasa to Miyamoto but he was not around anymore. Lady Mikasa chuckles and brushes Yuriko's hair. The alliance gets off their horses and walks into the castle together.
Miyamoto resting at the drinking inn on the outskirt of the Kagesama village, he drinks a Sake and plays a Shakuhachi that he grabbed on his way to the inn. Miyamoto blows on the utagichi, the blow hole of the flute and begins to play a soft and melancholic tone that reminds him of his late family. He remembers when his mother has taught him how to play the shakuhachi when he was 10 years old. Miyamoto plays softly, and slowly he begins to fade to the memory of his childhood. He was happily catching frogs with his friends after the kenjutsu practice with his father. When they gets back to the village, Miyamoto drops the dead frog as sees the villagers running away and screaming in terror as Samurai begins to burn the houses and destroys the Ogawa's home. Suddenly the air feels thick, his ears filled with an eerie sound, he turns around and sees his mother dripping with blood. She looks at Miyamoto with her eyes widen and says softly "Run..." blade appears right though his mother chest. Miyamoto gasp and opens his eyes, he stopped playing the shakuhachi and place it on the table and drinks his sake again.
The sun begins to set slowly, Miyamoto has been playing the song his mother taught with the shakuhachi. Miyamoto then hears a soft and sweet humming voice. He turns around and finds Yuriko, smiling and hums in a suitable note with the shakuhachi. Yuriko sits on the bench beside Miyamoto and says "That is such a beautiful song Miyamoto, I didn't know you can play musical instrument." Miyamoto chuckles and holds the instrument tightly as he says "My mother taught me how to play that song, it was her favourite piece from the ancient Ogawa clan. It is called the eternal drifter." Yuriko smiles sweetly as she ask what the song is about. Miyamoto hums, thinking before he answers "It is depends on the listener. To me, the music means to the soul of a loving woman and a fierce warrior, drifting to the eternity... or maybe, a feelings that will last for eternity" Yuriko softly holds Miyamoto's hand, their fingers intertwined as she lays her head on his shoulder. Miyamoto chuckles and squeezes her hand softly, he closes his eyes and enjoys the soft sounds of the wind and leaves of the trees.
Sun has set and the sky has darken. Only the torch and candle keeps the castle bright. Miyamoto and Yuriko walks in the castle, Lady Mikasa smiles as she sees Miyamoto. Quickly Miyamoto gets on his knees and keeps his head low as he introduces himself "I am Ogawa Miyamoto, loyal servant to the Shogun." Mikasa smile and nods approvingly as she takes a sip of her hot green tea. Miyamoto sits on the Chabudai cushion between Koji and Sayaka, across from Tomoe. Miyamoto thank the servant before he softly blows a wind on the hot tea and sips. Mikasa looks at Miyamoto and says "So, you are the infamous Crow? The one who managed to save my fort and my people." Miyamoto nods silently. Mikasa turns to Yuriko and ask "But isn't he just a peasant? A commoner, not a samurai. How did you manage that?" Miyamoto smiles and answers "I don't need a reason to become a warrior..." Miyamoto lifts the bamboo cup and drinks again. Mikasa nods before they begin to chat about the battle at Kagesama fort.
After listening to the story, Mikasa seems genuinely impressed, but there is a sight of anger in her as she talks to Miyamoto "That's very impressive child. You have my eternal gratitude for what you did for me and my clan." Miyamoto bows again as a sign of politeness. After a couple second, Mikasa raises her cup to her lips as she continues "Although, I'd never expect a hero from a clan such as Ogawa." Miyamoto keeps his head down as he listens, he grips his Hakama tightly. Yuriko leans close to her mother as she say "Mother, please don't do this." Mikasa chuckles as she adds "Well you can't expect me just to forget how dishonored the Ogawa is. Striking from the back, and calls themselves an Assassin for what they have done..." Miyamoto clenches his fist, his jaw tenses as he listens but he still manages to keep his head down and not saying anything. Yuriko looks with a concerned eyes before she turn back to her Mikasa and tells her to stop. Mikasa puts down her cup as she narrows her eyes at Miyamoto and adds again "That is definitely why the Kanto daimyo decided to eliminate them." Yuriko scoffs and slams her palm on the desk. Everyone turns to Yuriko who seems to trying to calm herself just like Miyamoto. Yuriko then say "Whatever happens in the past, stays in the past. Miyamoto isn't like his clan..." Miyamoto then raises his head and looks at Yuriko before he says "So your thought is same as her? That my family, is a dishonored warrior?" Yuriko turns to Miyamoto. Before she can say anything, Miyamoto bows and thank for the time before he quickly stands and marches out of the castle.
Yuriko quickly stand and chase after Miyamoto, as Yuriko walks out of the castle door she sigh as she looks around and can't find any trace of Miyamoto. Sayaka follows her out and softly brushes Yuriko's back, trying to comfort her. Koji, still inside the castle. He keeps his eyes on the table as he says "You don't have to tell him that you know?" Mikasa chuckles and finishes her tea before saying that what she said about the Ogawa clan was nothing but the truth. Koji chuckles and nods, but then he says "I can't deny that what you said was true Lady Mikasa... But provoke my friend again, then I might will overlook this war just to make you suffer..." Mikasa scoffs before she drinks her tea and walks out of the Tatami room. Koji finally let out the breath that he has been holding and take one last sip of his tea before he too leaves the Tatami room. Koji regroups with Mikasa and ask her "Where is Yuriko and Miyamoto? We must prepare for the attack tomorrow." Sayaka turns to Koji and answers that Yuriko has gone out to find Miyamoto.
Walking toward the outskirt of the town, Yuriko search for any trace that Miyamoto might has left. She then smiles to herself as she recognize the soft melancholy Shakuhachi melody that fills the quiet night. She walks and finds Tesso, Miyamoto and Saori drinking Sake underneath a bamboo tree. Yuriko nervously brushes her arm as she approach Miyamoto, she stops short. Tesso and Saori smiles and invites Yuriko over which she do. Yuriko sit front of Miyamoto and smiles warmly toward him. Miyamoto sigh and put down his Shakuhachi before he offers Yuriko one of the Sake tokkuri. Yuriko takes it and sips it lightly as she says "I'm sorry about my mother's behavior earlier. I tried to make her stop but..." Miyamoto sigh before he smiles back to Yuriko and says "its fine Yuriko, old people just can't get over their ancient glory, well most of the time." Four of them chuckles as they drink, Yuriko sigh relieved before she leans close to Miyamoto again and leans on his side. Saori and Tesso smile to each other as they together rest under the bamboo.
