Young love
~ Eleven year-old Lee Felix.
{1} The sound of fading rain and heavy sobs echos throughout his ears. That day was just as pitiful as any other, but somehow, it managed to make him cry.....the death of his mother was weighing heavily on his conscious. It wasn't real to him, just an illusion. He is dreaming, that's all. That's what he thought- it was not the truth. No, it isn't- she isn't.....Mom. His father escorts him to the car, carrying his two year-old sister who knows nothing of their mother, along with them. Bursting out in tears, an eleven year-old Lee Felix sits silently, not accepting what he calls a lie.
Go on, I'll be there, I'll always be there. By your side is where I will stay........
~ Thirteen year-old Song Mingi
{2} Mingi stood there, a thirteen year-old boy, watching the torment unravel again. The screaming and yelling, the constantly repeated words exchanged between his parents that never seemed to change.....he was tired of them. He never cried about it once though. He felt he was grown enough to handle such a situation. For him, this was nothing, but he didn't want hear it any longer. It was torture. He ran away from all the pain that was held in that house with no intention of turning back. For a while he had stayed hidden, probably what was three days. He was found and returned home by the police. By then, his father was already gone. His mother told him he packed his bags and said goodbye. Didn't even look back. A smile crept it's way onto Mingi's formally pure face.
I was happy you were gone.....I wouldn't even miss you....I knew it for sure...
●~●~●~
These incidents happened around the same week. A week after they occurred, Felix, his father and little sister, Danbi, went out for ice cream. Little Felix sat down at the table closest to the window with Danbi by his side. Trading glances with his father, Felix smiles the best he can, still deeply saddened by what happened the week before. He begins to think about it (All he could do all week was cry over it) and tears begin to form in his eyes.
His glistening tears begin to trickle down his face. He tries to stay silent but he cant help it- he misses his mother so bad. His crying intensifies, and he tries to be as quiet as possible. "Why are you crying?" a voice asks from behind him. He looks to the person asking the question while rubbing his eyes. The Thirteen year-old boy who was with his mother, stood there confused. "Hey, I asked whats wrong" he added again. Thinking of what to say back to the boy, he began to cry more. "Why do you care?" he asked the boy, sniffling and stuttering his way through the question. The boy bends down to match his height (Not that he was that much taller than him) and wipes his tears off his cheek with the handkerchief his father had given him. "My dad always said people shouldn't cry in public" he says this placing the handkerchief in Felix's hand, then folding his hand so he was gripping it tightly.
Felix sniffled as the boy stood up straight and patted him on the head with a smile on his face. He look up at the boy confused. "What's your name?" he ask Felix. He hesitates but finally answers him. "It's Felix". He nods his head. "What about you?" Felix asks in return. "...Mingi, Song Mingi". He stretches his hand towards him and Felix does the same. "Nice to meet you, Felix". Felix shakes his hand, a glad smile on both of their faces lights up the dim ice cream shop.
Felix would keep that handkerchief for as long as he could, claiming it as one of his most precious possessions.
Mingi would remember that crying boy in the Ice cream shop and how his smile made even the darkest of days seem bright.
