29. Christmas

"Daddy," the little one whispers, cold fingers squishing the man's cheeks together. "Wake uppp..."
Josh groans, opening heavy eyes. He smiles upon seeing Tyler. "Hey, baby."
"Daddy, it's Christmas!" Tyler grins.
"What time is it?" Josh asks. With a glance out the window, he realizes the sun hasn't even come up yet.
"Ummm..." Tyler giggles, flashing his daddy an innocent smile. "Six."
"Sweetheart," the man chuckles, cupping the little one's cheeks. "It's too early. Go back to bed and we can open presents when you wake up again."
"But daddy!" Tyler pouts, letting out a little huff. "P'ease! Wanna open presents..."
Josh kisses the sad look off his baby's face, letting out a defeated sigh. "Fine," he caves, "but let me make coffee first."
Tyler lets out a soft gasp. "Thank you, daddy! I have coffee?"
"No, baby, I'll make you hot chocolate. Is that okay?"
"Is perfect!" He responds, hopping off the bed and running out of the room, sock-cladded feet pounding against the wooden floor.
Josh smiles to himself, amazed with how incredibly precious his boyfriend is. He drags himself out of bed, goosebumps forming on bare skin. Trudging over to the dresser, Josh slips on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.
He heads downstairs, finding Tyler in the kitchen with a mug in each hand. One is baby blue and has the words baby boy on it and the other is dark blue and reads daddy. Josh bought the mugs for their anniversary last year.
"I adore you, sweetheart," Josh gushes, watching a pretty pink hue spread across Tyler's cheeks.
"Shush," he mumbles, thrusting the mugs into Josh's hands.
The man takes the fragile cups. First, he makes Tyler's hot chocolate. The boy sits at the island and sips his drink as Josh starts his coffee.
"Daddy?"
"Yes, hon?"
"Wanna know what I got you?"
"No," Josh chuckles, placing a kiss to the top of Tyler's head. "I'm going to see what you got me in just a few minutes."
"Okay.... Daddy?"
"Yes, hon?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Josh kisses him on the lips this time, smiling as the boy gazes up at him with doe eyes. Tyler's eyes shine, reflecting the yellow Christmas lights strung throughout the kitchen. He looks gorgeous, but that's nothing new.
Once Josh makes his coffee, him and the boy walk into the living room holding hands. And by that I mean Tyler practically drags the man into the living room, babbling about how much he loves Christmas.
The two sit on the floor next to the Christmas tree. As Josh sips his coffee, Tyler sets his mug aside and pulls the first present into his lap. Josh watches silently as he tears open the wrapping paper, letting it collect in a pile on the floor.
Tyler gasps, holding up the new pair of baby pink thigh-highs. "Thank you, daddy! I love 'em!"
"I'm glad, baby. Is it my turn?"
"Uh huh."
Josh grins, setting his coffee mug aside. He picks up one of the smaller gifts, carelessly tearing it open.
"What's this?" He asks, turning over the yellow CD case. A silver disc is inside, with the words For Daddy <3 written in Tyler's sloppy little handwriting.
"A mixtape," Tyler explains, tapping his fingers against his knee. He's nervous, but Josh doesn't know why. He thinks the gift is the most precious thing in the world.
"I love it, sweetheart. I can't wait to listen to it," the man grins, kissing Tyler's forehead as his frown disappears.
"Yay! My turn?"
"Yup, go ahead."
They go back and forth like that for a while. Tyler opens a gift and babbles about it for a while, then Josh opens a gift and assures Tyler that he loves it.
In the end, Tyler had bought Josh a new pair of Adidas, boxers with cartoon animals on them because "they're cute", holographic plugs, hair dye, a thermal mug, and various hoodies and t-shirts.
Everything Josh received he absolutely adored, just because the amount of thought Tyler put into his gifts was too cute.
Tyler had more presents than Josh, which neither of them minded. He ended up with new pacifiers, colored pencils, coloring books, pajamas, fuzzy socks, cute undies, graphic tees, a few movies, lots and lots of clothes, and more.
"I still have one more thing for you, baby boy. I have to go get it from the bedroom," Josh says, standing and stretching his legs.
"Okay," Tyler grins, reading the directions to a slime kit he got. "I'm waitin'."
"Good boy," Josh murmurs, kissing the top of his head before turning and rushing upstairs.
"Fuck," he mumbles to himself, rummaging around in a certain dresser drawer. Shaking fingers close around a small, velvet box. Josh lets out a shaky breath.
Putting the box in his pocket, the man slowly makes his way back downstairs, heart pounding. He can't help but be nervous. What if Tyler says no? What if he doesn't like the way Josh asks? What if Josh stutters? What if he messes everything up?
Those thoughts end immediately, however, when he finds Tyler in the same spot he left him, sitting on the floor with a new stuffie on his lap. The boy looks back at him with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Daddy, I thought you was gettin' my last present?"
"I did, baby," Josh says, clutching the box in his pocket. He takes a deep breath and slowly approaches the little one.
"Daddy?"
Josh smiles, getting down on one knee and pulling the box out of his pocket. He holds it before him and opens it, revealing the simple, yet stunning ring.
A small gasp escapes Tyler. "Daddy..."
"Hush, baby boy, let daddy speak," Josh smiles, watching the brunette's eyes light up. "Tyler Robert, ever since the moment I first saw you on that swing set with Ryan, I told myself that I was going to marry you some day, no matter what it took. You're the most wonderful human being I've ever met. You're gorgeous, kind, thoughtful, and so much more. I love everything about you, absolutely everything. I love taking care of you and treating you like royalty. I love holding you and being there for you when you need me. I want to be there for you for the rest of our lives. Will you marry me and be mine forever?"
"Joshie..." Tyler whispers, clearly overwhelmed. Tears fill his eyes as he tosses his stuffie aside and pulls the man in for a tight hug. "Yes, yes, yes, a thousand million trillion times. I love you so much, oh my gosh."
Josh chuckles, wrapping his arms around the boy tightly. "I love you too, honey, so, so much."
Tyler pulls away and holds out his ring finger, giggling and wiping at his tears with his other hand. "You're the sweetest daddy ever."
"You're the sweetest little prince ever," Josh counters, sliding the ring on Tyler's delicate finger, topping the whole ordeal with a kiss to his lips.
Tyler's cheeks are bright red as he returns the kiss. He twirls the ring around his finger, not used to the new weight.
"It's so pretty, daddy..."
"A pretty ring for my pretty boy," Josh gushes, smiling wide as a giggle emits from the brunette. He pulls Tyler into his lap, hugging the boy from behind, chin resting on his shoulder as their fingers interlock.
"Daddy?"
"Yeah, honey?"
"Do I getta wear a pretty dress?"
"Of course, baby boy. If that's what you want, then yes. Anything for you."
"Okay," Tyler smiles, resting his head back against Josh's chest. "And daddy?"
"Yes, honey?"
"Merry Christmas."
