11-Boring Host
"I'm going to go hang out with Brendon, okay?" Ryan asks.
Tyler sighs. "Okay, I guess."
"What's wrong?"
"This is boring and I want to go home," Tyler complains.
Ryan rolls his eyes. "Just sit down and I'll be back in like thirty minutes."
Tyler knows it will probably be longer, but he still plops down on the loveseat regardless. He looks around the house, eyeing all of the other people that look like they're having a good time. He isn't, this is the most boring party he's ever been to.
"Can I sit?" A voice asks, pulling Tyler from his thoughts.
His eyes land on a man with blonde hair. (fuck me I love blonde Josh ok) Tyler literally feels his heart skip a beat. Maybe he could make things a little more interesting.
"Go for it," Tyler shrugs, trying to seem unbothered.
The man nods and sits so close to Tyler their thighs are touching. It makes Tyler's skin tingle. He looks at the man in wonder.
"I'm Josh," he announces.
"Tyler."
"Why're you sitting here all by yourself?"
"My friend ditched me for his boyfriend, and I'm so bored I could gauge my eyes out."
Josh chuckles, his arm falling around Tyler's shoulders. He seems like a really touchy person to Tyler. "This party too boring for you?"
"This is a sorry excuse for a party," is Tyler's reply.
"Oh really?" Josh seems amused, his eyebrows raised and lips curled into a smirk.
"Really. I'd rather go home and go to sleep."
"I'm not making it any better?"
Tyler thinks about that for a moment. "No, you are. This is the most fun I've had all night."
Josh smiles, he looks proud. "You're pretty cool, Tyler."
"You're cool, too."
"The host must be really lame, yeah?"
"Yeah!" Tyler agreed. "They ran out of alcohol before I could even get drunk! This music sucks, who the hell listens to techno?"
Josh laughs, getting smile lines and wrinkles around his mouth and eyes. Tyler feels himself fall deeper for the man; he's swooning. How could someone be so handsome and so beautiful at the same time? It's not fair, Tyler wishes he could be even just one of those things.
"I like you," Josh smiles.
"Like, as a friend?"
"No, not as a friend."
Tyler blinks in surprise. "Do you know where the bathroom is?"
Josh nods and his hand wraps around Tyler's as he leads the latter to the bathroom. Tyler is going to faint. The most attractive man he's ever seen, that he's just met, is holding his hand. He just told Tyler he likes him, too. What the fuck? What's so special about Tyler?
Josh opens a door in the hallway. Tyler gratefully steps in.
"I'll be right back."
He locks the door, turns to the mirror, and screams.
"FUUUUUCK!" he yells, out of no particular reason. He's feeling so many things at once, 'fuck' seems like a good word to describe all of them. "FUCK!"
He opens the door, and blushes when he sees Josh still standing there. He looks utterly confused. "You good?"
"Yeah, I'm good. I... Like... I like you too," Tyler studders his words.
"As a friend?" Josh teased, his hand closing around Tyler's again as they walked back to sit in the living room.
"No," Tyler blushes, his voice coming out as a little squeak.
"Can I have your number?"
Tyler literally can't believe this is happening right now. They trade phones, and Tyler puts his contact name as "Ty <3.
"You're cute," Josh chuckles, his arm falling around Tyler's shoulders.
"You're hot," Tyler says, without thinking, and regrets it immediately after. "I mean, uh, thanks."
"Thanks," Josh grins. "Still bored?"
"No," Tyler shakes his head. "You made it better."
"Hey Tyler!" Ryan calls out, a taller man holding his hand. "This is Brendon!"
"Hey."
"Hey."
"I'm giving him a ride home, okay?"
"Okay," Tyler shrugs.
"Hey Ryan," Josh says with a smug look on his face.
"Hey Josh."
"You two know each other?" Tyler asks, confused.
Ryan laughs. "Whose house do you think this is?"
Tyler's jaw goes slack. His cheeks turn a bright red hue as he realizes Josh is the host of the boring party. The party he'd just been complaining about the entire time... He looks at the man only to see him smirking, like he thinks he's the funniest person on the planet.
"Why didn't you tell me this was your party?!"
"Because then you'd think I'm boring," Josh explains with a laugh.
Tyler huffs, upset that he trashed Josh's party and that now he probably secretly disliked him.
"Are you mad at me?" Josh asks, the smile dropping off his face.
"No, I just hope you're not mad at me."
"I wouldn't have given you my number if I was," Josh points out.
"You got his number!?" Ryan asks in disbelief.
"Yeah," Tyler blushes.
"Okay, well I hate to tear the two love birds apart but I'm ready to leave," Brendon speaks up, and Tyler notices he looks like he's having a hard time standing.
He nods and stands up, feeling Josh stand up with him. Josh says he'll walk with him to the car, and his arm stays put around Tyler's shoulders.
"You're very touchy," Tyler points out.
"Not usually, but you're an exception."
Tyler blushes for like the 50th time that night. He still doesn't understand what Josh sees in him, so he figures maybe he's in a dream. He'll wake up soon, alone, and he'll ask Ryan if he knows anyone named Josh. Yeah, that seems more realistic.
"Night, Tyler. Text me when you get home," Josh says, and he pauses before kissing the top of Tyler's head.
Tyler's cheeks burn, his heart is racing, and his knees feel weak. Unable to form a proper sentence, he nods. He slides into the backseat, rolling down his window so he can feel closer to Josh. His hand rests outside the window, and Josh takes the opportunity to hold his hand again.
"Don't forget to text me," he says. Tyler just smiles because he feels wanted for once, and it's a nice feeling.
"Okay," he finally answers. "Bye, Josh."
"Bye, cutie."
Ryan drives away, pulling Tyler's hand out of Josh's. Tyler smiles to himself. He touches the hand Josh was holding over his heart and sighs in content.
"Is this a dream?" he asks.
Ryan laughs. "No, Tyler. That was real. Don't forget to text him when you get home, he seems worried about you."
"Why would he be worried?"
"I don't know, maybe he just wants to make sure you make it home alright. I've never seen him touch anyone as much as he touches you."
Tyler smiles at that, his head falling to rest against the now-closed window. It still feels like a dream to him, but a buzzing in his pocket brings him back to reality. He sees the name Boring Host flash across his screen and wants to be annoyed but can't because Josh is so damn cute.
"Hello, boring host," he answers. Josh laughs on the other end.
"You can change that. I just thought you'd find it funny."
"I just left your house, like, five minutes ago."
"I just wanted to see if you were home yet."
Tyler laughs, unknowingly giving Josh butterflies. "No, not yet. I'll be home soon, though."
"Can we still talk?"
"Yeah, of course. I like talking to you."
"I like talking to you, too."
