You Didn't Answer Your Phone... - Trucas
Angst Prompt I got off the internet. Canon.
Lucas's POV
It's been too long. Too damn long. I was starting to freak out at the fact that I couldn't find Tristan. He sent a text saying that he was going to be back late, but not this late. He said he would be back around 9:30-10ish, but it's already 11! He should have been back an hour or so ago! Peace and Grace had been over since Tristan dropped off Peace when he had to go to work. I called his phone for like the fifth time. Still no answer. I'm freaking out.
"Did he answer?" Grace asked from the couch, Peace asleep in her side.
"No." I answered darkly. Where the fuck are you Tristy? I sigh and try to concentrate. He could just still be at work, his manager making him work harder for something stupid.
1 hour later
It's almost midnight and I can't take it! "If he doesn't answer now, then I'm going to go find him and drag his ass back here." I whisper to Grace, who's almost asleep. I call his phone for what now? The one hundredth time? Oh great stars help me.
I'm dead silent as I hear the voicemail go off. I end the call and, under my breath, say, "Oh for all the stars! Fine, if you're not coming on your own, then I'll just have to get you."
I grab a jacket off the coat rack and put it on. Even though I don't need it, I'm bringing it so no one will be suspicious. I grab my keys and lock the door behind me, making sure Peace and Grace would be safe until I got back.
I let out a breath and set out on the search for Tristan, wearing my in-between form though. I put the hood on over my head, and look down at my black jeans. Perfect. My mask concealing the bottom of my face, and my hood covering the top of it. My wings folded in tight and my tail....well, I can't really find my tail, so I just let it be.
I quickly jog over to the restaurant he works at and stare at the lights inside. I sniffed around and caught Tristan's scent. Yep, he was definitely still here. I walk through the doors of the restaurant and quickly go upstairs to where the light was coming from. I could hear him before I even saw him, and smell him before I even heard him.
"Please Mr. Edwards! I-I need this job! M-my sister-" Was all he said before he was cut off by an older, stricter voice, saying, "None of your excuses Mr. War! Your slacking off and tardiness will no longer be acceptable! I don't even know if you have this so-called sister of yours! And if you do, she should be old enough to fend for herself. Not have you look out for her."
"Please Mr. Edwards! I-I won't be late again, I promise!" Tristan pleaded.
"No! You will no longer be welcomed here!" Tristan's manager yelled.
That's it. I've had enough of this guy. I step into the office and stare at Tristan's manager dead in the eye, even though he may not see it.
"I'm sorry, but who are you?" He asks me. I smirk beneath the mask and help Tristan to his feet before staring back at the man.
"Rogelio. Isn't it? So nice to finally meet you. Let me introduce myself. I'm Astro." I say beneath my mask. Astro is the name Tristan and I decided on for this form and my dragon form all together, even though he will call me Lucas no matter what form I'm in if we're alone.
"Nice to meet you Astro. Why do you wear the hood, and mask? It's so informal to wear that sort of thing in a restaurant you know." He says with a smile, but my grin is bigger. Tristan is nervously behind me, and I say, "You really shouldn't scare your workers like that, even though they work so hard for you." Rogelio freezes. Good. "I'm sorry I don't understand what you're talking about." Is all he says, and even though it's a cold night out, I can see him sweating. I let out a low, husky laugh before taking off my hood and mask. He just stares at me in shock and horror.
"I-I don't understand. How are you- Hey! Brat! Get back here I'm not done with you!" He yells as Tristan bolts out of the room. I can't fully shift on the fly because then I'll rip my clothes, and that would be a bit of an issue. So instead, I take off my jacket and throw it to the side. My wings, fully able to stretch out.
"Why did you hurt him?" I growl, pinning Rogelio to the ground in all but a minute. Even though he has his wolf form on, I'm still able to keep him down. I hear a yelp coming from downstairs. I look back at him and it's an all out dash to get to Tristan first. Although Rogelio takes the simple way, down the stairs, I grab my jacket and fly out a window, land in the parking lot and go back in through the front doors.
I see Tristan on the ground, holding his leg. I quickly run over before I'm tackled out of the way by Rogelio. I quickly get out of his grip and growl before standing in front of Tristan. I summon a gun and get into a defensive position. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a security camera. I grin and shoot it without so much as looking at it. There are probably others in the store, but they won't see me shift to any of my forms anyway.
"You little shit." The manager says, after shifting to the inbetween form. I growl and summon a sword. As he was about to attack with his claws, I put the steel between us, pushing back as he tried to find a way in to attack me.
But he couldn't. I pushed him back with the sword and sighed. "Come on kid, let's get you home." I say as I reach a hand out to Tristan, pretending I don't know him. He takes my hand gratefully and his eyes widen as I put him on my back. After he's secure, I bend down to grab my jacket. I growl one last time at the manager before taking off into the sky.
Tristan's POV
How in the stars did Lucas find me? I have no idea, but I'm glad he did. I nuzzle my face into his scaled neck and breathe in his scent. "H-How did you find me?" I manage to breathe out. But he doesn't respond. Now, I'm worried. Is he mad at me? Does he think I'm a burden to him? Does he not love me anymore?! I was slightly panicking, if you couldn't tell.
After a while of flying, we reach the same meadow he first shifted to me in. I let out a small gasp at the remembrance of the small meadow. He landed in the center of it and set me down gently. "L-Luca." I breathe out as he shifts back into his human form. "Why?" I ask him, my insecurities getting the best of me. He cocks his head at me.
"Why what?"
"Why go through all of that trouble for me? Why did you choose me?!" I exclaimed, tears now visible.
"Tristan, we've been over this. I don't want anyone but you." He says as he wipes the tears off my face with his thumb.
"But why? Why go through the trouble of trying to save me?" I almost demanded, the tears streaming down my face.
He chuckled and whispered, "Because you're my **** ****** ****. That's why."
I froze. "What? But, I-I thought-" I started but he cut me off with a kiss.
When he broke the kiss, he said, "Tristan, why do you have to ask such dumb questions? I didn't fall in love with you. I walked into love with you, with my eyes wide open, choosing to take every step along the way. I do believe in fate and destiny, but I also believe we are only fated to do the things that we'd choose anyway. And I'd choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I'd find you and I'd choose you."
I breathed in his scent again, so much warmth and comfort. I got that from Pinterest, just so you know. It's not original. He suddenly kisses me. I can feel my heartbeat quicken while we kiss. I don't know why it still does that, we've been dating since the end of middle school and we've already graduated high school.
I tangle my hands into his hair, his soft, long hair. As soon as we break apart, Lucas smirks at me and kisses me again.
"Why didn't you answer the phone when I called?" He asks, holding my waist.
"M-My phone was dead, still is." I answer.
"Mmmm, your phone might have like....a hundred missed calls when it's charged." He said, no shame in his voice whatsoever.
"You're insufferable."
"Shut up, you love me."
"Can't argue with that."
