My Heart Went Boom (Peggy)
Peggy is just that cute, little sister mess. I'm a younger sister. I hope I'm a cute little sister mess like Peggers. -C
Despite the fact I've set three alarms, told Angelica to wake me up, and had my eye facing the sun, I still managed not to wake up.
Now, now, I'm late.
I roll out of bed with all the grace of a dying swan. Then, I race over to my dresser, my foot getting caught on the side of the bed and sends me flying. I groan before reaching for the balled tights.
Hopefully, my little outing with Aaron will be delayed. Nah. That kid has perfect timing. And yes, I am permission to call him kid! He's a January birthday, and I'm a September birthday.
Okay! Keep moving, Margarita! I wiggle out of my nightgown and start pulling up my pink tights. The cloth feels shockingly wrinkled. Oh wait. I kinda balled them up...Oops!
My Heathers shirt goes on top. I have to show musical pride! It's the only acceptable way to live, don't you know?
My phone starts buzzing the moment I get my brush and start attacking my locks. I lunge for it, letting the brush go flying.
"Hello?" I sing out cheerfully.
Aaron chuckles on the other side of the phone. "I might be running late, Peggy. But it sounds like you might be running late."
"What? No!"
"Have you ordered the pizza then?" Amusement seeps through the line.
My eyes grow wide, and I freeze on the floor. "Wait, wait. I thought we were going out?"
"No we-"
"Haha! I was totally punking you! Heh," I awkwardly laugh.
"Peg-"
"Gotta go! Bye!" I hang up on Aaron immediately.
I bet he's laughing to himself. That jerk. Thinking that I'm just some kind of weirdo who runs too late to be manageable. Despite the fact it's totally true, it's still rude to be thinking of me like that. God.
After dialing for the pizza, I start getting the dorm ready for him. I pull my hair back into the highest ponytail possible, and then I completely change. I have to vacuum. That is the worst torture I have ever known. Do you understand how overheated you end up getting? You end up sweating, and panting, and it's just awkward. I wear a crop top over a spaghetti-strap tank top, brightly colored you know. The crop top has Rent's logo on the classic red, green, yellow, blue, and black shirt. The tank top is electric pink. Then, I wear my shorts that don't even go to my knee.
Time to make it seem like Angelica and I didn't have a popcorn catching battle yesterday. By the way, I won. I have the ability to catch popcorn in my mouth better than Angelica can.
It takes fifteen minutes. It's 10:48. The pizza delivery was supposed to arrive ten minutes ago, and Aaron was supposed to arrive eighteen minutes ago. Here's hoping that someone will arrive soon. I'm just collapsed on my yellow bedspread, sighing and sweating.
The vacuum is hiding within the closet to make sure that nobody will dare suspect anything.
Knock, knock.
"Who's there?" I sing out.
There's no response besides a quiet chuckle. Oh, I see how it is. "Spell!"
The laughing gets a little louder. Aaron, thinking he can evade me? Ha!
"Spell who?" I respond to myself once more, knowing that this is one of the most cliché jokes yet.
I twirl around, dancing and laughing to myself. "W! H! O! Bada-boom!"
Flinging open the door, I start babbling about our other problem...The biggest problem that the world has ever faced...
"The pizza guy hasn't come here yet! So, hey, have you seen the..." I glance at the person who's at the door...Who is a little too tall to be Aaron. Oh, and he's a little too dark-haired for that. Not to mention that this isn't Aaron whatsoever? Like...This is the most un-Aaron-type guy I have ever seen.
I slowly exhale the next word. "Oh."
This boy is so attractive...Not that I've noticed that! It's just the smile completely consumes his face, lighting up every single inch of him. It makes him look a million years younger than nineteen or twenty or something along those years. Brown hair swirls atop his head, perfect and silky, and God I want to run my hands through it. His brown eyes, which you think would be dull, blare with stars that seem to consume them. His skin is a shade lighter than mine, but I imagine it'd still look adorable locked within mine. What kind of boy is this muscular too? Wow, this is...Amazing.
I've even seen him around campus! That probably means that he's not some creepazoid, but oh well. That might not be true...But I need to make sure I don't close my mind about it.
If I could ignore the bright red shirt with a pizza logo on it, he would be a dream boy. Then again, it makes him seem human. Which shouldn't be possible. Since he looks like a friggin' God, and I should be bowing.
The boy breaks out laughing, practically doubling over. My cheeks light up bright red as he continues to laugh.
"Sorry, sorry. This is horrible customer treatment."
"Darn right!" I return. "You almost dropped the pizzas! What a monster you are."
He sniggers as I steal the pizzas and trot into the dorm. I dump down on our small coffee table, right next to one of Angelica's books and one of my many pieces of homework. Who knew that being a theater major makes you do homework? What kind of world are we living in?
When the boy hesitantly steps over the threshold, I finally read his nametag. "Stephen? My name is Margarita, but everyone calls me Peggy. Or Peggers. Because my nickname is too hard to pronounce, don't you know."
He slowly collects himself. "Hey, so it's eighteen-"
"Can I just give you twenty-eight, and you can give me ten back?" I cheerfully ask, grabbing my small and humble wallet off the counter. I start rummaging through to grab that.
Stephen's eyebrows knit together. "Ten back...? Why?"
"You know...Like...212..."
"Whoa, wait. Are you asking for my phone number?"
"Duh!" I singsong, skipping over and bowing. "Or will I have to keep ordering pizza? And get fat? For you?"
"I'd hate for that to happen."
"And, in case you're a murderer..." I raise one finger to slow his roll. In case he's making all of the moves, you know. "We will only meet at public places for awhile."
"Oh! I'm in your house...Should I worry about you being a murderer?" His eyes suddenly start twinkling just as much.
I wink. "Should you?"
"Or are we going to be an ol' Bonnie and Clyde act?"
"Or a JD and Veronica act?" I flirt straight back, bringing up my vast knowledge of musicals and movies.
That makes him snort and shake his head. "I'm not stupid, Miss Margarita. JD gets blown up. Veronica lives."
"If we're Romeo and Juliet, we both die...If you want to feel better about yourself," I suggest.
Stephen snorts and hides his face in his hands.
After we wait a few seconds, he finally glances up from his hands. "You are adorable. Are you sure you're single enough to date me?"
"I'm single, trust me. Not sure why someone wouldn't want all this." I twirl in a circle.
Stephen applauds, catcalling and whistling at me. The two of us pause, glancing at each other and grinning wildly. I pause. "You sure you're single enough for me?"
He immediately starts flexing, making me feel really out of shape all of a sudden. "Not sure why someone wouldn't want all of this, but I'm single too."
"Let's be single together." I suddenly realize that doesn't work and pretend to hit my head against the wall. "A sudden realization has crashed over me, and I abruptly have to accept the fact I cannot be single with you. The power of this realization compels me to ask you out soon."
"Oh yeah? Hold your hand out." Stephen leans in, reaching for my hand gently. I stretch it out, and he uncaps a pen and neatly scrawls a few numbers upon my hand.
Ten.
He smiles brightly at me. "I'll see you again, Peggy?"
"Not if I see you first!"
"Does that mean you're going to hide from me if you see me first?" Stephen suddenly asks, giving me an interested look. "What does that expression even mean?"
I pause.
Then, I break down laughing. "Of course, you're an English freak! I don't even know, I was just saying it."
"Well, I hope you see me and don't hide."
I bounce forward, peck him on the cheek, and return. Shyly, I blink at him. "Bye, Stephen."
"Bye, Peggy." He winks and blows me a kiss.
When Aaron gets to my dorm ten minutes later, he finds me on the bed, already texting Stephen.
