"Heheh, no, silly! Petunia, don't you know, the two are courting!"

A young Angel giggled, holding one massive paw up to his mouth. He stayed quiet, looking to the smaller Kiridian, Petunia, beside him. She gasped, scraping at the sand beneath them with one hoof.

"Are they, really? Gosh, I hadn't even noticed!" She exclaimed, eyes wide. Petunia blushed a bit when the Angel nodded, glancing to crystal clear waters.

"I can't believe you didn't realize, they've been at it for months! Not that they know, they've got different courting methods, haha!" The Angel giggled once more, tossing a shiny orb into the air and easily catching it. The Kiridian gasped.

"Sunspot! And you say nothing to them? Shame, shame!" Petunia laughs. The Angel laughs as well.

It almost blocks out the sound of shouting, sharp as a metal blade, cutting deep into his skin. The Angel's feathers ruffle as he slowly digs his claws into the sand. His eyes dulled.

Petunia gently bumps her head against his thigh, and he looks up, relaxing immediately.

"Come now, Sunsprite! Why so glum? Cheer up, friend!"

He nodded, laughing easily with his friend, resting one massive paw on her head, claws buried in her deep orange fur.

"Of course. Thank you, friend. Now, where was I?"

"Ginnie and Kiya's courtship, yes, yes!"

The Angel nodded, relaxing fully as he begins his tale once more, a story of two lovers. His dear friends, a Beezu and a Pero, madly in love and yet unfamiliar with the others courting mentods. Petunia giggled along all the while, laying her head on his thigh, watching the fluff move with her every breath. The Angel pet along her body gently as he spoke, tail curling happily around his friend.

But of course, nothing good can last forever.

A sharp voice cuts him out of his thoughts, Petunia melting into the yellow sand they sat on together.

"Junior, what are you doing?"

The Angel is sluggish, slow to look up at the much larger Angel. His father stares down disapprovingly at him, arms crossed and tail lashing slowly behind him.

Sunspot's wings tuck in closer, and he looks at the floor, sheepish.

"Playin'." He responds quietly, pushing himself up, brushing the granules of sand out of his feathers.

His father scoffs, looking out toward the water instead, and Sunspot looks down in shame. His mother looks at him sadly, ruffling his fluff with a massive paw.

"Did you have fun, son?" She asks gently, and Sunspot nods, kicking at the sand.

"Yeah. Had lots'a fun."

His mother nods, humming softly.

"I'm glad, dear."

Her and his father both begin to walk toward their shelter, expecting him to follow.

He does.

Petunia sits behind, staring sadly at her friend. She isn't real, never was, but she feels bad for her Angel all the same. Slowly, she stands, and walks into the water. Perhaps next time, she thinks.

Perhaps next time.
