White Chain Bracelet (TDDK TW/SUICIDE)

TW/ Suicide

Have you heard the story?

There's a legend in this town, that when you die, your spirit stays trapped within the item you loved most.

Whether it's a piece of jewelry, or a phone, your spirit will be trapped with that item for eternity.

And there is nothing anyone can do about it…

"Mom… it's beautiful, I love it!" Izuku smiled at his mother, taking the bracelet from her. The bracelet was a white chain, with a pendant attached, of fire and ice ying yang.

His mother smiled, patting him on the head, as he went up to his room to do homework, putting the bracelet on his wrist. Izuku hummed to himself happily, starting his homework.

After about 15 minutes, he became stuck on a question, tapping his pencil to his desk while thinking.

"No… 20 is too low… but 100 is too high… what am I doing wrong in this equation?..."

"59."

Izuku looked up quickly, and nearly screamed, stumbling back out of his chair when he saw the bicoloured male in front of him.

"Y-You… how did you… when-"

"Wait, you can see me?" The stranger asked, tilting his head to the side. His red and white hair falling to the right.

Izuku nodded, paying rapidly out of fear.

"That's strange… nobody has been able to see me before, but I guess that's because I'm dead… maybe it's because of the bracelet…"

"W-who are you? W-what do you mean you're dead?!" Izuku exclaimed, terrified.

"My name is Shoto Todoroki. What I mean by I'm dead, is that I killed myself." The boy replied, "My spirit was trapped in the bracelet because of how special it is to me."

"You mean… so that legend is true?"

"I guess so. What's your name?"

"I-I'm Izuku, Izuku Midoriya. So your a ghost…" Izuku mumbled, "I- wow…"

His door opened suddenly, and Inko entered the room.

"Izuku, sweetie who are you talking too?"

"Oh, uh… just myself Mama! Sorry…"

"No worries sweetie, I'll be in the kitchen if you need anything." She went out the door.

"Your mother seems nice," Shoto stated, startling Izuku.

"Ah! Right… Sorry, this is kind of strange to me…" the green haired boy admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Don't worry about it."

"What was that you said about 59?"

"The answer to the question you were struggling with. It's 59."

"Oh, thank you."

Izuku continued to work on his homework, Shoto occasionally helping.

"What's your quirk?" Shoto asked suddenly. Izuku flinched.

"Oh, I um… I don't have one. I'm quirkless…" Izuku mumbled in response.

"Huh, alright…"

"Hey Todoroki?-"

"Call me Shoto. I… don't like my last name. It reminds me of my father."

"Oh, sorry… Shoto, you said that you… killed yourself. Why did you?"

Shoto was silent, and Izuku realized he may have crossed a boundary.

"S-Sorry, you don't have to answer-"

"No, it's fine. I did it because of my father… he's the number 2 hero, Endeavor. He abused me and my mother… and I was only conceived because he wanted to beat All Might in some way. After he put my mother in the hospital, I decided it wasn't worth putting up with it all anymore."

"Endeavor… I always thought he looked cool, I didn't know he was such a bad person…"

"Hey, is it okay if I call you Izuku?"

"Huh? Oh, of course! I don't mind at all!"

Shoto smiled, "Then, Izuku… would it be okay if we went to visit my mother sometime?"

"Your mother… at the hospital?"

"Yes."

"Well… I suppose, if I can find time, then yeah, we can visit her!"

"Really?!" Shoto smiled hugely, hugging Izuku, "Thank you!"

Izuku smiled, hugging back.

"Izuku! Dinner time!"

Izuku and his new friend went downstairs, and then went to bed.

The next morning, Izuku and Shoto went to school.

"OI! DEKU!" Izuku flinched as he heard his childhood friend yelling. Katsuki Bakugo stomped over angrily, shoving Izuku to the side.

"Tch, stupid Deku. I heard you got the top score on the last test. I thought I told you to stop beating me…"

"Izuku, who is this?" Shoto asked, glaring at Katsuki. Five seconds of being around the boy, and He already disliked him.

"S-Sorry Kacchan… b-but I heard you got second place! That's good"

"IDIOT!" Katsuki yelled, shoving him again, "SECOND IS JUST A SPECIAL NAME FOR THE FIRST LOSER!"

Izuku flinched again, "Right… S-Sorry Kacchan…"

"You better be fucking sorry…" Katsuki growled, walking away.

"Who was that?" Shoto demanded, once Katsuki was out of sight.

"Katsuki Bakugou, my childhood friend… if you can call him that I guess…" Izuku sighed, rubbing the bump on his head that Katsuki had left from his rough pushing.

"He seems like a typical bully," Shoto grumbled.

"He's not! Sure he's a little scary, but I know he really cares!"

Shoto didn't respond.

The years went by quickly. Izuku was happy to have a friend that didn't judge him for being quirkless. They learned more about each other, and soon they were best friends. Izuku started visiting Shoto's mother, and she got to know him, as well as being able to speak with her son through the bracelet.

Everything was fine until the last day of middle school.

"You're even worse than the rest of these losers!" Katsuki yelled, ranting once again about how much he hated Izuku.

Shoto clenched his fists, listening to the rant.

"Why don't you take a swan dive off the roof, and pray that you'll have a quirk in your next life!"

That was when he snapped.

"Leave him alone!"

Ice shot from Izuku's right foot,, freezing Bakugou in place. Everyone stared at the ice.

"What did you…" Izuku mumbled, looking up at Shoto.

"I don't… I didn't do anything… how..." Shoto was at a loss of words.

"Late bloomer?" One of Izuku's classmates finally suggested.

"It must be," the teacher mumbled, "alright, everyone go home. That's enough for today. Bakugo, go home. Midoriya, I would like to speak with you."

Katsuki grumbled to himself as he melted the ice with his own quirk, before leaving.

"Sir?..."

"Now that you have a quirk, you'll need counselling… unfortunately our school doesn't have a quirk counselor. We'll find someone. In the meantime, I encourage you to learn how to control your quirk, and to read the rules we have about quirk use during school."

"Yes sir." Izuku nodded, and he dismissed him. Shoto and Izuku left.

And after that, the summer was spent training him to use the quirk properly. Shoto said he must have gained the quirk from him somehow, because after Izuku demonstrated fire abilities, he explained that his quirk had allowed him to control fire and ice.

Then they got into UA.

His classmates were nice. Kacchan still seemed to dislike him, but he didn't mind.

Everything was fine until the Sport's Festival.

"Hey, Midoriya right?" Izuku turned to see Hitoshi Shinsou, staring down at him.

"Huh? Oh, yeah that's me. Can I help you?" Izuku asked. They were alone in the hallways, waiting for their turn to fight.

"Be careful Izuku, remember what Ojiro said." Shoto warned. Izuku nodded slightly, to show he understood.

"I won't use my quirk on you if that's what you're wondering," Hitoshi said, "Although I'm assuming this Ojiro your ghostly friend is referring too is the tail guy who resigned."

"Ghostly friend?- W-wait, you can see him?!" Izuku stammered, gesturing to Shoto.

"You can hear me?" Shoto questioned.

"Part of my quirk. I can interact with spirits. Don't ask how it's part of my quirk, even I don't know that. I've never seen someone else besides Aizawa able to interact with them before, and you seem only able to interact with this one."

"I think it's because of the bracelet, my mom gave it to me, and Shoto's spirit is attached to it." Izuku explained.

"That would make sense. Anyway, I wanted you to know that I won't be holding back in our fight. I hope you won't either."

Izuku nodded, and smiled, "I wouldn't dream of it."

"Good." Hitoshi patted him on the shoulder, and walked away.

The Sports Festival went by.

The internships were complicated.

"Hey, I got an offer from the Endeavor Agency…" Izuku muttered.

"Really?" Ochaco looked over his shoulder, "Oh wow! You did!"

"He must have noticed that you're using my quirk…" Shoto muttered, "Unfortunately, he would be the most logical choice. He can help with the fire part of it."

"Do you think I should accept it?" Izuku asked.

"Totally! He's the number 2 hero!" Ochaco exclaimed.

"If you're prepared to deal with questions, then yes." Shoto replied.

"Alright…" Izuku mumbled, deciding he would accept the offer.

Internships came.

"Izuku Midoriya, correct?" Endeavor questioned.

"Yes sir."

"Alright. I'll get straight to the point. How do you have my son's quirk?"

"I'm not your son." Shoto growled.

"I don't know what you mean sir." Izuku said.

"Bullshit." Endeavor glared at him, and Izuku gulped.

"Would you believe me if I told you I got it from Shoto's ghost?" Izuku asked, glaring up at Endeavor.

"What? Of course not, that's ridiculous! Don't be childish boy."

"I'm not being childish. I really did. In fact, his ghost is standing right next to me, glaring at you."

That was true. Shoto was indeed, standing right next to Izuku, glaring daggers at his father.

As Izuku said that, he realized how different Shoto looked from when they had first met a few years back. Back then, his hair was messier, and there had been burn marks on his body. Now, his hair was neat, and the only burn mark was the scar over his left eye.

"If your so convinced of this, prove it. What does he look like? What are his siblings names?" Endeavor demanded.

"He's fairly tall, with pale skin. The right side of his hair is white, and the left is red. His left eye is blue with a burn scar over it, and his right eye is gray, like his mother's." Izuku said, staring at Shoto.

"I have two older brothers, Natsuo, the second youngest, and Touya, the oldest, as well as an older sister named Fuyumi." Shoto said. Izuku repeated the information to Endeavor.

"Impossible! How did he get the scar?! Explain that!" Endeavor demanded. His angry demeanor was cracking, showing a man who was becoming scared.

"My mother poured boiling hot water over my left eye after calling my left side unbearable because of him."

Izuku repeated the information, and Endeavor was rapidly paling.

"Do you believe me now?" Izuku asked, and the hero sighed, nodding.

"Let's get down to business then."

They breezed through the internships surprisingly, and even more surprisingly, Endeavor invited Izuku to his house to meet Shoto's siblings.

"I'm home." He grunted, "I brought a guest."

"Oh, welcome home!" A woman came over, smiling. She looked kind, and Shoto recognised her.

"That's my sister, Fuyumi." He said, and Izuku nodded.

"Who is this?" Fuyumi asked, looking down at Izuku.

"A student from UA. He was my intern." Endeavor replied.

"Hold on, you're telling us that you took an intern?" A white haired boy came into the room, and crossed his arms, "I call bullshit."

"No, I interned with him. Only because my quirk is so similar to Shoto's though." Izuku said.

"Natsuo…" Shoto mumbled.

"I'm going to the training room. I've had enough excitement for this week…" Endeavor grumbled, hanging up his coat and leaving.

"How do you know Shoto?" Fuyumi questioned, leading Izuku into the living room.

"He's my best friend." Izuku replied.

"Okay, now that's the richest pile of bullshit I've ever heard," Natsuo stated, "last I checked, Shoto's dead."

"What's that bracelet?" Fuyumi asked suddenly, lifting up Izuku's arm. Izuku flinched.

"Oh, this?" He pulled his arm away, moving the bracelet around, "My mother gave it to me…"

"That was Shoto's bracelet from our mother, how did you get it?" Natsuo looked at the bracelet, and then glared suspiciously at Izuku.

"My mother gave it to me." Izuku replied, feeling anxious suddenly.

"Izuku, I have an idea." Shoto said suddenly, "take the bracelet off."

"Off?... alright…" Izuku mumbled, unclipping the bracelet and sliding it off. He could still see Shoto.

"Nothing happened..." Izuku trailed off.

"Midoriya? Are you alright?" Fuyumi asked. Izuku nodded, putting the bracelet back on.

"That didn't do anything Shoto..." Izuku said, looking at Shoto, confusing Fuyumi and Natsuo.

"What are you talking about? Are you feeling okay?" Natsuo asked.

"Can you let them try on the bracelet?" Shoto asked. Izuku nodded.

"Here," he took the bracelet off and handed it to Fuyumi, "try it on."

"W-what? Me? Why?" Fuyumi asked, talking the bracelet and staring at it.

"Shoto wants you to. It might let you see and hear him." Izuku replied. Fuyumi nodded hesitantly, and put the bracelet on.

"Okay, this kid is crazy. How would putting on his bracelet let us-"

"S-Shoto?" Fuyumi asked.

"Can you see me?" Shoto asked, sitting next to Midoriya. Fuyumi nodded.

"Don't tell me your in on this too Fuyumi-" Natsuo was cut off by Fuyumi taking the bracelet off and shoving it at Natsuo.

"Put it on," she said, "He's right there next to Midoriya."

Natsuo sighed.

"If this is what it takes to prove you wrong…" he sighed, putting the bracelet on.

"Can you see me now?" Shoto asked. Natsuo paled, and nodded. He took the bracelet off and gave it back to Izuku, who put it back on.

"I can't believe… a-are you a ghost?" Fuyumi asked. Shoto nodded.

"I'm not dreaming right? This random kid just came into our house and allowed us to see our dead little brother?" Natsuo asked. Fuyumi pinched him, then herself.

"Nope, not dreaming…" she mumbled.

"This is weird…" Natsuo mumbled.

"Where's Touya?" Shoto asked. They both looked down.

"He… he ran away after you died, we haven't seen him since." Fuyumi sighed.

Shoto looked down sadly.

The visit was short, as Izuku had to go home.

It was funny. Izuku had never thought he would be a hero thanks to being quirkless. Yet he became the number one hero, with Shoto there to help him.

But it wasn't until the very end, when Izuku was dying of old age, that he finally confessed his feelings.

The bracelet was taken, and sold in an auction, given to a young girl. Then she was able to see both Shoto and Izuku.

From then on, the bracelet was passed down forever. Whenever it's last owner passed, their spirit would be attached to the bracelet.

So remember. If your parents ever offer you a bracelet of a white chain, with a fire symbol pendant and an ice symbol pendant, don't refuse the offer. You just might end up with the same bracelet that so many others owned, and meet the most amazing people, who left lasting impacts on the world.
