Pain (TRIGGER WARNING)

Pain, without love.

Pain, I can't get enough.

Pain, I like it rough.

'Cause I'd rather feel pain then nothing at all, oh.

Hues of red and orange flashed brightly as flames shot up around.

Within seconds, water was thrown over it, as the young heroine's skin turned purple.

The villain froze when he saw her, and he didn't open his mouth to breathe more flames.

She smiled sadly, and he turned, running off into the smoke. She didn't chase him.

"Palette! Where'd he go?! Is he gone?!"

The hero's skin turned back to normal, and she turned.

"Yeah, he got away."

The other heroes nodded sadly.

The next day, a group of them had a meeting.

"We're here to talk about the newest villain. He's become a dangerous threat, and we need to catch him as soon as possible."

The girl with rainbow hair looked down, knowing exactly what was going to be said next.

"Yula, you've been the first to the scene every time he shows up, but you haven't been able to catch him, and by the time anyone else shows up he's gone. What's going on?"

"All I know is his quirk allows him to breathe fire. I'm too busy putting the fires out to catch him, and he runs off every time I show up."

"Then stop putting out the fires and go after him!"

"And leave innocent people to die?!" The girl was horrified at her friend's suggestion.

"Well then leave it for the rest of us!" The ginger snapped.

"Ash, every other hero who shows up before Yula has been burned badly enough to be put in the hospital. She's also the only one who can put the fires out."

"Misty could."

"Last time I tried there was no moisture in the air for me to absorb into my clouds. I can't."

The ginger sighed, and slumped back, out of ideas. Her raven haired girlfriend patted her on the back reassuringly.

The raven haired girl's sister sighed, rubbing her head.

"Then we'll have to patrol with Yula, and get to the scene with her."

Yula didn't like that idea, but she agreed to it anyway.

That night, when she came home, the arguing started again.

"WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STOP THIS ACE?!"

"I can't Yula, it's my job! I've been doing this since high school!"

"And I've been covering for you since high school! I can't keep covering for you, I have to patrol in pairs now, if you cause any more trouble I'm not going to be the first one there!"

"GODDAMMIT YULA! IF KNOWING ABOUT MY JOB CAUSES SO MUCH TROUBLE I NEVER WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU ABOUT IT!"

"I HAVE HALF A MIND TO TURN YOU IN RIGHT HERE AND NOW ACE! YOU CAN'T AVOID THE OTHERS FOREVER!"

"You couldn't catch me if you tried Palette."

"Bet, Blitz."

The two were silent, staring each other down. Then the multicolored girl looked down.

"You know I couldn't hurt you…" tears threatened to fall. The dragon boy walked over to her, giving her a gentle hug, and kissing the top of her head.

"I don't want you to get arrested Ace…" she sniffled, starting to cry into his chest. He sighed, pulling her closer.

"I'll lay low for a bit, avoid anything large scale. Is that alright?"

Yula sniffled one last time, but nodded, smiling into his chest.

She never felt the microphone that had been attached to the bow in her hair.

When the ginger showed the others, they were shocked.

"So… what does that make her?"

"A traitor."

"Ashley…"

"It's the truth, the question is what do we do about it?"

"I'll talk to her about it-"

"I don't know if that's a good idea Misty, you know how Yula gets when she's defensive…"

The group discussed what to do, until deciding to just leave the issue as it is for now.

But things never got better for the couple.

Ace and Yula ended up constantly arguing, with their different morals and being on opposite sides, they just got worse, until finally…

The multicolored girl snapped.

"I WANT A DIVORCE!"

Ace froze.

Yula was breathing heavily, as she glared directly at Ace. She was done with this, and pulled papers out of her bag, slamming them on the counter and sliding them towards him.

"I can't do this anymore Ace, I can't keep covering for you. I know the others are getting suspicious, and I can't handle the fact that we'll all have to fight you one day. I… I can't do this."

"So you think a divorce with fix things?! You think this is going to repair anything in our relationship, Yula-"

"I don't want to repair our relationship, I want to get rid of it completely!" Yula snapped, "At least then I won't feel bad fighting you as a hero!"

They stared at each other. Both held back tears, hiding their heartbreak from the other.

"Fine."

It was settled. Yula Kasai was no more. She went back to her maiden name, Xen, and that was that.

They each thought the other hated them.

At least it hid their scars, and allowed them to do their jobs properly.
