„Damn it, why am I even doing this?!” Jungkook asks himself frustrated, throwing the shirt in his hand to the pile of abandoned clothes he created the last thirty minutes in the futile attempt to find something suitable.

Taehyung asked him out on a date!

They’ve been friends for some time now. Originally they met through mutual friends but soon became best friends themselves.

That’s until Jungkook noticed the change in his feelings. It changed slowly, like thinking he looked good in this angle or his smile was cute and grew steadily into something more serious like fantasising about him and getting jealous over others.

When Jungkook realised what happened he panicked a bit. He tried to avoid Taehyung for some time, to clear his mind. But that just led him to thinking about the other even more, missing him the whole time he wasn’t near and feeling guilty seeing Taehyung’s sad expression when the elder spotted him running away. But he didn’t have what it took to face Taehyung.

One day Jimin finally decided to betray him; Jungkook was still thankful for that. He tricked Jungkook, told him to meet him but of course never showed up. Instead Taehyung was there, making him spill the beans on why he avoided him. Jungkook told him honestly – not everything though, he didn’t had to know about some dreams he had.

And to Jungkook’s surprise Taehyung took it all in. He accepted Jungkook nevertheless, hugged him tightly and didn’t let go for a long time, saying he didn’t want to lose the younger over this and that he still wanted to be friends if Jungkook was okay with that.

And of course Jungkook was; he had missed Taehyung too much. When he voiced his doubts about him being able to contain his feelings all the time, that sometimes it may show and that he didn’t want Taehyung to feel bad over it but probably couldn’t avoid it, Taehyung assured him that he preferred Jungkook showing his true feelings! He told him he should always show and tell him what’s on his mind, that he needed to tell him when he felt hurt and that they would find a way to get this going as long as they were honest.

That day was one of the happiest and saddest at the same time. On one side Taehyung wanted him to stay at his side at all costs and they would be friends what ever happened. On the other side they would be friends what ever happened. Jungkook felt heartbroken after his hopes for a relationship got crushed but it’s not like he had that big of hopes. He was grateful they still could hang out together despite his feelings for his friend.

To everyone’s and foremost Jungkook’s surprise it actually worked between them. They did get along just like before as if nothing had happened. Until two days ago when Taehyung suddenly asked him out on a date!

Jungkook still doesn’t know what got Taehyung to do this. He probably did it in the spur of the moment. But still... Taehyung often appears impulsive and therefore it would suit him but Jungkook knows that Taehyung cares too much about him to play thoughtlessly with his feelings.

The last two day Jungkook tried to figure out what it was Taehyung planned but he gave up earlier this morning. He was too nervous to focus his thoughts and he will probably find it out later at the date anyway.

That is when he will actually be able to choose an outfit for today. He wants to look good but not too obvious. He doesn’t want to scare Taehyung by appearing as if he looked forward to this date really hard and could only think about it. Doesn’t matter that it’s true. Taehyung shouldn’t feel pressured.

Jungkook knows that the odds are not on his side. It’s more likely that Taehyung will realise it was a mistake and Jungkook plans on being a good friend, accepting it wholeheartedly and being grateful he even got one chance to see what a date would be like.

And to do that he needs the perfect outfit that lets him appear good but casual at the same time. To his demise there is not one piece in his closet suited for such an occasion. They are either for very special occasions or simply too casual.

“Damn it!” Why did he ever agree to this?! Jungkook is finally fed up with behaving like a stupid teenage girl in love and just pulls out some of the few clothes left in his closet. He will wear just whatever! Taehyung had seen him in way worse states and anyway it’s all his fault he is like this now so he should just take what he gets!

The clothes happened to be some ripped jeans, his black thrasher hoodie and a white shirt underneath anyone would see since he’s not planning on taking of his hoodie anyway. Fits!

A quick look at the clock on his oven shows Jungkook that he used more time on deciding his outfit than he planned. He speeds up gathering his things, after all he doesn’t want to be late and heads for the place they agreed to meet.

This date was the worst ever. Or more like is since they’re still at it.

Taehyung looks godly of course and Jungkook feels shabby in his hoodie next to him.

Taehyung hasn’t said anything to his attire, he just smiled widely and hugged the younger as a greeting but Jungkook soon felt worried and pulled the hood over his head. Ha! As if this could hide him.

Neither of them has planned anything apparently, leaving them at guessing what to do. As friends they never had problems deciding what to do and were even comfortable doing nothing. But this was a date so the felt kinda awkward doing the same things as usual.

After some discussion the opted for ice cream and the park. And from there on it started to go downhill. They just couldn’t find a topic to talk about. Normally they both just said what they were thinking but Jungkook was too nervous today to think anything coherently and Taehyung -  who was supposed to take over since he was good with socializing – turned into a quiet ball of nerves.

Right now they’re sitting in a small restaurant and Jungkook is sure by now that Taeyhung is regretting ever mentioning a date. Jungkook is sure to get turned down a second time today even though it wasn’t even him to propose this whole thing but all he hopes is that they won’t stay as awkward as now after this.

“Jungkoo-“

“Taehyu-“ They start at the same time. Looking up into each other’s eyes for probably the first time today after meeting the burst out laughing. The tension between them that has been so thick it was almost palpable finally unloads now.

“What did you want to say, Jungkook-ah?” Taehyung asks after they regain their composer.

Jungkook ponders if he really should tell Taehyung now since their mood has gotten better but then thinks whatever and just says it. “I wanted to ask why you asked me out on a date.”

“Oh, you were wondering over that? Isn’t it quite obvious?” Taehyung asks looking genuinely surprised.

“It came out of the blue, to be honest. You made it quite clear back then that we are friends so when you told me you wanted to meet up not as friends but something more romantically I was quite taken aback. And I’m still wondering what got you to do this.”

Instead of answering Taehyung just looks at him with a serious expression, making Jungkook move around in his seat nervously.

“If you did it for me... You know, to make me feel happy...” Jungkook continues when he can’t bear the silence anymore. “It’s just, I don’t want fake hopes, hyung. I would love it if you felt something, too. But both of us know that the world doesn’t function like we want. I preferred it if you stay my honest best friend instead of a fake boyfriend.”

“Jungkook-ah, do you really think I would play like that with your feelings?”

Jungkook looks down when he hears that question, playing with the sleeves of his hoodie. It’s an uncomfortable question since it implies Jungkook actually thinks his hyung being able to be this cruel. But Jungkook can’t answer. He somehow needs to hear Taehyung say that he isn’t.

He hears a sigh form the other end of the table before Taehyung speaks again.

“I asked you on a date because I’m interested in you. Romantically by now.” This finally makes Jungkook look up.

“Really?” his voice is barely audible but Taehyung seems to understand.

“Really.” He nods. “Ever since we talked that day when you told me about your feelings I paid more attention to you. Noticed a few things about you I didn’t see before and also notice a few things about myself I didn’t knew before. Realised that some reactions I had to you... I didn’t have them to my other friends. That’s when I admitted to myself that you were not only a friend. And after that I wanted to give it a try. And it may have been a bit awkward today and surely not the perfect first date everyone dreams off but I still think we can function.”

Jungkook’s can feel his heart speed up to Taehyung’s words. This is surely not what he expected.

“Are you asking to go out together?” Jungkook whispers, he doesn’t dare to ask this question any louder since they were still in public.

“That’s exactly what I’m asking, yes. How about it, Jungkook-ah?”

“We just had the most awkward date ever and you’re asking me to go out together? You must be insane.” Jungkook says, drawing a smile from Taehyung.

“You love me like that.” Taehyung winks at him, making Jungkook laugh.

“Yes, I do!” Jungkook answers and Taehyung seems to understand that his reply is meant for not only the last statement but also for the question asked before.

“Damn it!” Taehyung exclaims, leaning back in his chair, throwing his head back and facepalming himself.

“What?”

“Now I seriously want to hug you! Like, for real. And I’m even imagining how your lips might feel... Just know that I’m gonna kiss the hell out of you once we get to a more private place!”

Jungkook’s heart beats like a drum by his hyung’s words. He for sure doesn’t mind finding out about the feel of the elder himself.

“Sure hyung, show me what you’ve got. And then I show you what I’ve imagined all the while I was still in a one sided love story.” Jungkook grins at him. “But maybe we should get out of here first.”

Taehyung looks through his fingers that still cover his face but the smile underneath is visible. “Yeah, let’s get out of here.”
