Wishes and Dreams: Sophitz

Kotlc_Sofitz_Fan, your request for a Sophitz first date! It's kinda cheesy; I think I used up my weekly angst supply on my other writing this week, so this is basically just fluff-

Hope you like it!

Fitz's hand was warm, Sophie thought.

It was soft, she noticed, and he rubbed his thumb ever so slightly over her palm. Their fingers twined together loosely, and they swung their arms back and forth between them, occasionally bumping each other's legs.

Holding his hand felt really nice, she decided. And it was made even better by the way Fitz kept on looking at her, glancing back between her face and the path ahead. As if he didn't want to look away.

She wasn't sure she'd ever want to let go.

Sophie met Fitz's eyes, and he smiled at her, making her stomach perform a flip.

"I'm glad we're here," she told him, swinging their arms so they gently bounced off Fitz's leg.

"Me too," the telepath smiled again, his teal eyes sparkling in the dwindling light.

It was getting darker with every second, and although she'd originally been apprehensive about a late-night first date, she blew out a breath.

This wasn't bad at all.

"So, where are we going?" Sophie prodded, tilting her head to the side.

"You'll see," Fitz promised.

Sophie frowned, but she allowed him to lead her down the path until a row of trees blocked their view ahead in a dead end.

Sophie raised an eyebrow, but Fitz whispered, "Trust me," and gently tugged her between the trees. She was mostly focused on not tripping or tearing her carefully chosen outfit, but she looked up when the wind whisked against her cheeks playfully.

Her jaw dropped.

Fitz grinned as she dropped his hand, moving slowly into the grassy clearing.

"Wow," she murmured under her breath. "This is..." she spun around to face Fitz, and he caught her hands again.

"Yeah," he agreed, the moon's glow lighting up his dark skin. "You like it?"

Sophie could only nod.

The clearing was draped in shadow and dappled with moonlight, but the real spectacle was above them.

The stars were so bright, Sophie had to look away to keep her eyes from watering. She'd seen the stars in the Forbidden Cities, of course, when she'd gone camping with her human family.

But nothing like this.

They were shimmery and colorful, and they looked so close. As if she could reach up and pluck them out of the inky black sky, feel the warmth on her palms as she cradled the colorful light.

Logically, her brain reminded her that the stars were flaming balls of gas.

But even though she knew what they really were, the jewels in the sky felt almost magical, even though she'd been in the Lost Cities long enough to know that magic didn't exist.

"I love it," she whispered, and Fitz grinned, sitting down on the soft grass and patting the ground beside him. She dropped down to sit next to him before laying back against the grass, resting her head on the soft ground.

Fitz did the same, and then they were lying side by side, staring up into the velvety darkness above them. For a moment, they were quiet, and there was only the wind rustling over branches and the twinkling stars.

"There's a human supersitition," Sophie began, breaking the silence, "That stars grant wishes. Or make them come true, at least."

"Really?" Fitz chuckled beside her, and they were close enough that Sophie could feel the vibrations in her blood. "That sounds..."

"I know, it's dumb," Sophie laughed. "But it's special, too. As if... as if when you wish for  something enough, it'll come true."

They were quiet for a minute, staring up at the stars as if they really did grant wishes.

Then Fitz's voice sounded from beside her, thoughtful and curious. "If stars really did grant wishes... what would you wish for?"

Sophie turned the question over in her mind, studying the gentle light of the stars. "I'd wish for peace. So that we can just be normal, and together, and happy, without having to worry about the Neverseen or anything like that." The idea solidified in her mind, and she nodded more firmly. "I'd love to be at peace."

Fitz's fingers wove with hers, gentle and soft and warm. She twisted to face him, and he met her eyes.

"What about you? What would you wish for?" she asked.

His lips quirked up into a soft smile, and his skin was lit up by a thousand stars as he told her, "I already have everything I need."

Short and sweet. So sweet.

Angst brain, come back-

Anyway, that was that! Hope you liked it, I haven't written Sophitz in a bit so this was nice.
