The Small Acts of Love: Kam
So I just randomly decided to look up headcanons for kotlc.
And... this happened
The original headcanon is at the top...
It's gonna be altered a little bit because I had to add a bit of Kam but-
Here we go-
Keefe's hands were in his pockets as he squinted at the sky.
One might think his hands were cold, or he just liked how he looked.
But really, he had his hand clenched around the small coin in his pocket. He turned it around in his fingers, rubbing his thumb across the flat side in a nervous tic as he waited for his mother to arrive.
She was taking longer than usual today. She always took a long time to get ready- after all, she couldn't look less than perfect when going to see someone- but today was abnormally long, and Keefe was getting impatient.
He didn't know why she wanted to come with him, anyway; she'd never been particularly close with Mai, not how Cassius was with Quan. Maybe she wanted to warn Mai to keep her son away, or something like that. It sounded like her, but Keefe wasn't going to allow anything to keep him away from Tam.
When she finally stepped out of the tower, her cold blue eyes scanning the lawn for him, he automatically straightened his spine, removing his hands from his pockets as he resisted the urge to take a step back. His eyes lowered as she latched her hand around his wrist, her freezing fingers sending shivers down his spine.
"Choralmere!" Gisela's voice rang out sharply in the quiet, and Keefe almost flinched from shock as they glittered away.
When the familiar beach house properly materialized around him, he blinked in the bright sunlight, promptly extracting his arm from Gisela's vise-like grip. She didn't spare him a single glance before marching off to the front door, while he skirted around the house to the back, grateful to be out of her unforgiving gaze.
Tam was waiting for him by one of the small pools by the property, lounging in one of the beach chairs.
"Hey." A smile lit up Tam's face when he saw him, and Keefe knew a matching one blossomed on his own mouth.
"Hey," Keefe responded, pressing a kiss to his boyfriend's mouth as they reclined on one of the loveseats next to the pool. Tam's arm went around Keefe easily- naturally- and for a second they just sat there.
Tam's head turned to face Keefe, his mouth forming the beginning of a word before Linh's voice called from inside the house, interrupting.
"Tammy! I know it hurts your heart to be away from the love of your life for more than a few seconds, but could you help me with something?"
Keefe grinned as Tam blushed, and the blonde poked the shade's cheek laughingly. Tam swatted his hand away, a grin curling his lips as he stood up reluctantly. The brunette promised to be right back as he jogged towards the house, already shouting something at Linh.
Keefe settled back slowly on the cushions of the small couch, his smile slowly disappearing. His finger tapped impatiently on his leg even though Tam hadn't even been gone a minute, and Keefe jumped up restlessly.
He circled the pool a few times, and walked to the edge of the area, closer to the enclosed patio that sat next to the house.
He was about to return to the pool with his pacing when he heard voices coming from the patio.
Curious, he edged closer until they became clearer, and he recognized one of them as Gisela.
"Can you honestly say you're fine with his antics?" That was Mai, the note of disapproval in her voice clear.
Gisela responded, then. But the words she spoke didn't make any sense, because she said, "I'm so proud of everything he's done." He could have sworn she spoke with a hint of defiance.
Time stuttered. And stopped.
Gisela was a statue. Cold and unfeeling, judgmental to all who passed under her gaze. But Keefe couldn't help but try to make her move, to feel.
All he'd done was for her.
But she'd never reacted, never given him more than an annoyed sniff after he acted out to get her attention, after he pulled a prank or ditched class or made a retort that blew up Cassius's anger. She'd always simply stand there.
So his pranks got wilder. He concocted the Great Gulon Incident, but even though his father had been about to send him to Exillium and he'd yelled until his throat gave out- as much as Keefe liked to deny it, everyone knew it was him- Gisela had stood in the corner.
She might have gathered dust, she stood still for so long.
And after that, Keefe had resigned himself to the fact that his mother would never care about him.
Until now.
"There you are," Tam caught Keefe's hand, lacing their fingers together.
Keefe turned to his boyfriend, trying to find the words to express what he'd just heard, and Tam's eyebrows raised.
"What?"
But just as Keefe's mouth was forming the words, he reconsidered. After all, Gisela might not be talking about him at all (even if she probably was) and even if she had been... this was for Keefe.
This was his secret, so the words that eventually spilled from his lips were, "Nothing, I just saw something that made me smile."
"Was it your reflection?" Tam teased. Keefe could tell that he knew he was hiding something, but he didn't press it.
"Nope, it was yours," Keefe told him, smiling in satisfaction as the shade blushed.
They ambled around the property aimlessly, simply enjoying one another's company as their tightly woven fingers occasionally brushed their legs. Keefe rested his head against Tam's shoulder, letting out a contented sigh.
Tam let his head rest on top, and they watched the sun set together.
Okay I literally had no idea how to finish that
So then this happened-
This wasn't the best thing I've ever written but oh well-
