The Boy With The Teal Eyes: FedEx

And... weekly oneshot!

This week is FedEx because it was on my list and I wanted to write it and here we are-

"Hey," Keefe smirked, nudging Dex gently. "Cute boy at 2 o'clock."

Dex rolled his eyes. "I don't even know what means. What angle does 2 o'clock even go to and how would I know what way to..."

His voice died in his throat as Keefe grabbed his chin and forced his head to face the food court nearby, where a boy with brown wavy hair, broad shoulders, and an easy smile was leaning against the wall casually.

He... was cute, to say the least.

"Told you," Keefe sang teasingly, poking Dex's blushing cheek. "I'm always right."

"What? What was Keefe right about? What will he hold over our heads for the rest of our lives?" Sophie asked, strolling into hearing distance with their food.

She handed Dex his food, raising a curious eyebrow.

"Nothing," Dex said quickly, pinching Keefe quickly on the arm to stop him from saying anything.

But, of course, Keefe being Keefe, he blurted, "Dex totally has a crush on that guy over there and he wants to ask him out."

Sophie blinked.

Dex facepalmed to hide his glowing cheeks. "I do not have a crush on him, thank you very much. You were the one who pointed him out and said he was cute."

"I mean, isn't he?"

"Yes," Dex mumbled, groaning inwardly as he said the words. "He is. But-"

"Then what are you waiting for?" Sophie smirked, taking a huge bite out of her sandwich. "Go talk to him," she added, her voice muffled by the bite of food.

"Exactly!" Keefe agreed. "Don't miss your chance to go out with Mr. McHottie over there."

"I'm sorry do you want to go out with him?" Dex glared halfheartedly, sneaking a glance back to the boy with the shining smile. He knew that if Keefe did start flirting, the boy would have no chance- and neither would Dex.

Keefe sighed dramatically. "Tragically, no; you know my heart belongs to someone else."

"Who you're not dating and are basically archenemies with," Dex pointed out in an attempt to steer the conversation away from the boy with the wavy brown hair.

He couldn't resist sneaking another glance.

Sophie snorted and Keefe scowled at her as Dex hastily fixed his gaze back on his friend's faces. "It's a process," Keefe insisted.

Sophie and Dex rolled their eyes in unison.

"But that's not the point!" Keefe said, regaining the sparkle in his eye as he nudged Dex again.
"The point is that Dex is totally making moony eyes over that hottie over there."

"I am not-"

"You definitely are. You should ask him out, Dex," Sophie interrupted. "You obviously like him."

"No." Dex crossed his arms to hide the nerves that ran through him at the idea.

Going up to a stranger. Asking for his number. Asking if he wanted to- to go out. Feeling the boy's eyes drill into his (or maybe they'd be warm, and soft, and-). Maybe he'd take his hand and grin. Maybe Dex would be on the receiving end of that smile.

Maybe the cute boy with the perfect smile would say yes.

But Dex reminded himself that he was a stranger.

And anyway, Dex didn't need a boyfriend right now. He had plenty of responsibilities, and even if he had the time, it wasn't like he would say yes.

"ASK HIM OUT! ASK HIM OUT!" Keefe chanted, drawing a few eyes over to their small group.

"NO! Shut up!" Dex hissed, kicking his friend in the shin. "I don't even know if he... you know, if he's gay."

"Only one way to find out!" Sophie chimed in, a smirk curving her lips teasingly. "You know, if Keefe and I agree, it must be right! After all, how many times in your life will that happen?"

Dex sighed, his eyes once again finding their way back to the boy. He wasn't there, and for a second, Dex felt a twinge of disappointment; then he spotted him sitting at a table, book propped up in front of him.

"Dex," Keefe grabbed his arm. "He reads. By choice. This is basically your dream boy."

Sophie grabbed his other arm, and Dex only had time to open his mouth in panic at their shared glance before they were dragging him towards the boy's table.

"No. He's gonna think I'm insane!" Dex groaned, digging his heels in before giving up and walking alongside them, trying to look at nonchalant as possible.

His eyes managed to find the boy with the broad shoulders again despite his significant effort to keep them ahead of him, and to his horror, he found the stranger looking back at him, a smile curving his lips.

"He- he's looking at me. Keefe. Sophie. He is looking at me," Dex mildly panicked, feeling himself blush yet again.

He couldn't tear his gaze away, and he hoped he wasn't as flushed and tense on the outside as he was on the inside.

"Good," Keefe said, finally dropping his arm. Sophie followed suit, taking another bite of her sandwich. She was holding Dex's now, somehow, and Dex reached for it before she held it just out of his reach.

"Ah ah ah!" Sophie sang, dancing away from his grabs at the food. "You won't need this while you're talking to him. Come on, he's right there. He'll be leaving soon; don't let him slip away! When you get back with a brand new phone number in your contacts and a date, you can have your food."

"That's low, Soph," Dex scowled.

"Come on, Dex. Just... go over. Talk. You never know what might happen."

"And," Keefe chimed in, "If you happen to get a boyfriend, then that'll be awesome. If you don't, oh well; at least you tried, right?"

"Wow, that's a great help, Keefe. Thanks," Sophie rolled her eyes at her friend.

"Yes, it was, wasn't it. I'm amazing at giving advice; it's part of the Keefester package," Keefe shot back, fluffing his hair.

Dex didn't hear what Sophie said in return. His eyes had returned to the boy with the eyebrows pressed together as he focused on his book.

Luckily, he wasn't looking at them anymore. But for a moment, Dex wished he was.

His feet started moving without his brain telling them to, shuffling towards the boy reading at a table in a food court.

Sipping his drink periodically.

Grinning every so often.

Running a hand through his hair as he turned a page.

And suddenly Dex was in front of him, and the cute stranger looked up, confusion sweeping across his face.

"Um." Dex could think of nothing else to say because god his eyes. They were piercing and warm and the brightest color he'd ever seen. Dex could have spent hours looking at them, but he cleared his throat quickly, remembering why he'd come over (although it hadn't exactly been his choice; his heart seemed to have overpowered his brain)

"Yes?" His voice wasn't as smooth as Dex had imagined; it sounded almost nervous, as if the boy was just as anxious as Dex was.

The thought gave him a burst of confidence, and Dex took a deep breath and said, "I was wondering if... you..." his courage failed him as their eyes met, and he glanced quickly downward before raising his head again. "Can I have your number?" he blurted, his cheeks flaming. "I mean. Only if you. Want to. Obviously."

He winced internally, but the boy's eyes crinkled as he smiled (he had a perfect smile) and said, "Sure."

Dex froze. Somehow, despite Keefe and Sophie's reassurances and his own resolve, he hadn't actually expected him to say yes.

"Great! I mean, good. Yes." Dex felt a smile grow on his own face, so large his cheeks hurt, but he didn't care.

"I'm Fitz, by the way," said the boy with the teal eyes, retrieving his phone from his pocket.

"Hi, Fitz," Dex responded, rolling the name around on his tongue. "I'm Dex."

"Dex."

He liked the way Fitz said his name. Curiously. As if he was trying to taste every letter (not like there were that many, but still)

"Are you free Friday night?" Fitz asked. Quickly. As if he was forcing the words out, as if he was afraid Dex would say no.

"Yes," Dex almost whispered, before repeating himself more loudly. "Yes, I'm free."

"Great," Fitz smiled.

His grin lit up the room, and Dex's stomach leaped.

"I'll text you," Dex told him, not able to keep the smile from his face at the thought.

Fitz picked up his book from the table, careful not to wrinkle the pages. "I'm looking forward to it."

Yep yep also Keefe and Sophie bicker a lot and I had to sneak in some Kam because of course. I was gonna slip in some Sophiana but it was kinda unnecessary so-

Dex is so awkward and adorable I love him.

So yeah tell me if ya liked it, if you have any oneshot requests you can request, etc

Next week will be either Sophitz, or a Marella ship that I haven't decided on yet. Which Marella ship should it be? I'll let you decide or possibly just pick one myself when my brain starts functioning again
