Hey, Adora: Catradora

@moonxliqght, your Catradora request!

This is my first time writing something from a show, so it might not be accurate to their characters. Just keep that in mind while reading-

Adora laughed, throwing her head back as she settled back on her arms, stretching out on a blanket.

(Adora only threw her head back in glee when she was really happy)

Glimmer's mouth moved, and both of their shoulders shook with barely restrained giggles as Bow shook his head, reaching out a hand to tug on Glimmer's hair. She threw a sparkle bomb at him, and they all laughed again.

Catra's nails dug into the tree branch she was crouched on, so hard she felt it splinter in her grip. The shards of wood dug into her palm, the only thing keeping her from leaping down and tackling Adora into the ground.

From going back to her, from leaving the Horde and betraying everything she'd worked for.

Catra closed her eyes. If she ever allowed herself to cry, tears would be sliding down her cheeks.

(and Adora wasn't there to wipe them away)

...

Shadow Weaver's magic had dug deep. It had clawed up parts of Catra's heart, made it impossible for her to leave.

She hated it.

She hated that Shadow Weaver had so much power over her. The power to make her submit with a whispered order, the power to make her loyal with a rare compliment.

Shadow Weaver's approval was pure, glistening water, and Catra lapped it up like she was stuck in a desert.

It never lasted long. Catra knew that she was being taunted; showing her love, and pulling it away.

Like a cat chasing after a string.

But she kept coming back for more. She kept on trying, kept on excelling and rising and becoming better and better and better-

And nothing changed.

Adora had been the only one who could hold her back. The only one who really knew her, the only one who knew that as much as she strived for Shadow Weaver's attention, she didn't want to want it.

(but even Adora didn't know what she truly wanted)

(and sometimes even Catra didn't know)

...

"Hey, Adora," Catra murmured, smirking as the blonde's head shot to the side, searching for the source of the familiar words.

"Catra," she growled, and Catra grinned wider at the outrage on her face. "Why- how are you-"

Catra leaped from the windowsill into the room, landing barely a foot away from Adora's face, and she froze.

Her sword was on the other side of the room, Catra noticed, or she probably would be She-ra already. But now she leaned forward as Adora's eyes flicked to the sword and back.

"I wanted to see you," the feline said breezily, flicking the edge of her nail under Adora's nose.

Adora snorted. She wasn't wearing a ponytail, for once; it was nighttime, the only time Catra had been able to find to sneak out of the Horde and make her way to Bright Moon.

(to intimidate her, Catra told herself. to psyche her out. to remind her that they used to be friends. no other reason)

(even if she missed Adora's stupid face)

"Right. That's not the only reason, and I know it," Adora insisted, her eyes flickering with unreadable emotions. "There's no way Shadow Weaver would let you-"

"Shadow Weaver," Catra bit out, the name sending a wave of annoyance through her body, "Doesn't know I'm here. I came to see you, Adora."

Adora scowled at her name on Catra's lips, her fists clenching tightly. "Why?"

"Why wouldn't I? We were best friends once upon a time, after all," Catra said, moving the smallest distance closer.

(she reminded herself that they were enemies as Adora took a step back)

"I don't want you here, Catra." The bitter words hit Catra like a blow to the head, but she just laughed, causing Adora's eyes to narrow.

"Why not?"

"I don't..." Adora's voice wavered the slightest amount, and she cleared her throat before saying, "I have a new life. Without you. In the rebellion... I'm... free." Her face brightened for a second before darkening again. "Or I would be if you weren't here."

"Why so affected by my presence, Adora?" Catra's voice softened and sharpened at the same time, a smile curving her lips. "Do I... bother you?"

"Yes," Adora snapped quickly. "You're my enemy."

Catra smirked, and Adora's gaze softened for a second. "We're enemies, Catra. Unless you decide to become a good person, that's not going to change."

Catra narrowed her eyes, temporarily thrown off balance by the softness in Adora's voice, and the blonde used the distraction to leap across the room, grabbing the sword by its hilt.

"Adora-"

"For the honor of Grayskull!" Her voice was different now; more powerful, stronger.

(like a princess, Catra thought, her face twisting at the thought)

And then the sword was pointed at Catra's chest, and she gulped against her will as bright blue eyes glared into hers. "Get. Out."

"Are you gonna make me?" Catra breathed, matching Adora's intensity as she flexed her fingers, black nails long and sharp.

Adora's throat bobbed as she said, "If I have to, yes. You're lucky I'm not capturing you or dumping you out the window into the river."

"But Adora," Catra whispered, bringing her face close to She-ra. The princess's eyes flicked down to her lips, then back up, fury flickering in the depths. "Cats always land on their feet."

With that, she spun and jumped back on the windowsill, gripping the edge with her feet as she glanced behind her, wiggling her fingers behind her mockingly as she jumped into the forest.

She heard a shout behind her, but she was already landing on a tree branch, ignoring the burning in her eyes as she scampered away, her nails shredding through bark as she left Bright Moon behind.

Grammarly kept wanting me to correct Catra to Tara what-

(Not me obsessing over "Hey Adora" why would you think that- oh, the title? yeah that um-)

I love Catradora so much. Also, I love Catra and Adora so much.

So yeah there was that! Hope you liked it! Pending oneshot requests are being worked on, I promise!
