Fire Underwater: Marellinh

Wow, I completely forgot about this for Saturday

So today shall be weekly oneshot day!

This week.... drumroll, please...

Marelinh!!!!!!

Hope you like it!

"Please?" Linh pleaded, widening her eyes unsubtly.

Marella snorted. "I'm afraid Tam will be a little more than mildly annoyed at you if you get another pet."

"Oh, that's not a problem," Linh waved off her protest. "I can convince him of anything. I have him wrapped around my finger, ya know."

Marella laughed. "I mean, true." I would know how that feels, she almost added.

"So I will," Linh beamed, dragging Marella into the shop. She ignored her squawk of annoyance.

"Hey!" Marella protested halfheartedly. She had to keep up appearances, after all... and to be honest, she loved animals just as much as Linh did. She just wasn't quite as obvious about it.

Linh went straight to the fluffy balls of fur in the back. You could hardly make out any features through the giant puffball, until a small paw pushed back some of it and a small round nose appeared, only to disappear as the paw patted the ground.

"Oh my-" Linh seemed beyond words. "These are just way too cute! I MUST get one!"

Marella snorted. "That didn't take long." Her comment went unnoticed as Linh cooed over the poof monster, and she had to admit... it was very cute.

Not as cute as Linh.

Marella managed to stop her blush at the thought; she was pretty good at hiding her feelings for Linh at this point, and they were just on a friendly hangout. That was it. Nothing more. Linh had called, she'd said yes... because they were friends.

Besides, Linh probably liked Fitz. Everyone else seemed to.

Marella ignored the rush of warmth that shot through her every time she thought of Linh liking someone else. She was jealous, and she knew it... but fire still rose under her skin, an involuntary reaction to her feelings.

A completely different kind of heat than the kind she felt whenever Linh took her hand, or brushed her arm, or gave her a hug.

Not the same at all.

"I'm definitely getting this one," Linh decided, pointing to one of the giant floofies. It didn't seem to look any different than the rest, that Marella could see.

"Why that one?" she asked curiously.

Was... was that a blush on Linh's cheeks?

She'd probably imagined it.

"Um-" Linh started. "No reason. I just picked randomly."

Marella eyed her suspiciously. That was definitely some red flushing her cru- friend's cheeks. But whatever. It probably had teal on it or something.

Linh called over the worker by name; apparently, she'd gone to the pet shop a lot. "Hi, Misa? I'd like to get this one!"

Misa weaved her way through the animals until she got to Linh and Marella. She smiled at Linh, and Marella felt flames rise in her palm, especially when Linh grinned back, her sweet face aglow. She clenched her fist, looking away to regain control. She hated how the slightest emotion could set off her flames.

Misa filled out the forms, blah blah a bunch of boring stuff, and soon Linh and Marella were walking out of the store, Linh holding a brand new cage with a fluffy ball inside.

"Where do you want to go next?" Linh asked, keeping the cage carefully by her side.

"There's this cool beach thing nearby," Marella told her. "Let me show you."

Taking Linh's hand- ignoring the sparks that danced under her skin- she led her a few blocks down, to a small beach she'd seen nearby. They'd gone all the time when Marella was young, but her mom hadn't been able to handle the trip to Atlantis recently, so they hadn't been in years.

The beach wasn't exactly a beach, because it was entirely underwater, but it was one of the only places in Atlantis that had water on the ground to go swimming in. Marella figured Linh would appreciate it, being a hydrokinetic and all.

Linh let out a breath as she looked at it, her silvery blue eyes dancing with joy. "Oh, this is so cool! I never knew this was here!"

Marella grinned; Linh's excitement was infectious. "I'm glad you like it," she said softly, her voice contrasting with her usual blunt tones. She shook the fire from her palms.

The girls took off their shoes, dangling their toes over the edge of the pool. (Linh made sure to sit the cage with the fluff ball a safe distance away.) Linh ran her hand through the water, gathering it her palm, and when it was as big as a baseball she turned and threw it at Marella, somehow completely drenching the blond with that small handful. Marella leaped up in surprise, Linh already giggling.

She snorted, and soon both of them were laughing so hard they couldn't breathe.

"Stop- my- stomach- hurts," Linh choked out. Marella gasped, trying to get her breath back. When they finally calmed down, collapsed on the sand next to each other, the petite blond looked over at the hydrokinetic next to her.

Linh's eyes were still dancing with laughter, her loose hair flowing around her shoulders. She had sand in her hair, all over her clothes.

She'd never looked more beautiful.

Marella had always been impulsive, blunt. She said what she thought, spoke back, stood up for herself. She had a way with words, her friends said jokingly.

But something about Linh always seemed to make her speechless.

So she used no words.

Instead, she reached over, pulling Linh up to her feet. Before she could ask why, Marella leaned closer, making it clear Linh could pull away if she wanted to.

But she didn't, so Marella closed the distance and pressed her lips to Linh's.

Their lips connected, and Linh laced her hands around Marella's neck. Marella felt sparks rising under skin, and this time, she let them.

Their lips moved deeper, and Marella burst into flame.

Linh let out a startled gasp against her mouth, but Marella had been practicing; this flame didn't burn. It's heat was vaguely tickly to Linh, rather warm, but on Marella's end she let the whole heat burst through, wreathing her entire body in fire.

She was burning, burning with joy and love and excitement.

Linh moved closer, and water joined the fire.

Not quenching, but surrounding Linh like a second skin, sending off streamers that matched the sparks flaring off of Marella's cocoon.

They were kissing in a circle of water and fire.

They broke apart, but the water and fire stayed, melding together to create a net that encompassed them. No one would be able to interrupt this moment.

They rested their foreheads against each other, catching their breath.

"Tam's gonna kill me," Marella let out a breathy laugh.

"I think you'll survive," Linh giggled, bringing their lips back together.

Their flames and water rushed together further, until streaks of fire coated waves and steam rose from their bubble.

Marella could stay like this forever.

Linh pulled away suddenly, and Marella paused, looking at her nervously. Linh seemed nervous herself, and she said, "So there was an actual reason why I chose the Puffalump."

Marella nodded curiously, waiting for her to go on.

"It was... I was looking at it. And. It pushed back its fur for a second... and it has ice blue eyes."

They both looked outside of the bubble, unconsciously creating a window. The puffball was sitting there, seemingly not concerned by the large fire and water display.

The blonde grinned. "Didn't take you for sentimental." She pushed back the braids that had fallen over her face, widening her own ice blue eyes. Linh blushed, and Marella poked her cheek, laughing.

Their lips connected again, and Marella let her flames flare.

Awww, so cute! I love Marelinh, it's so adorable.
