And That Is Love: Tiana
Requested by @EveHawke1, your Tiana oneshot!
"Come on!" Biana giggled, leading him through the woods. Her hand was clenched tightly around his, tugging him around trees and under the low branches that threatened to knock against his head. She, of course, scooted under the branches no problem.
Biana brought him to the edge of the forest and stopped there. With a wink and a hop, she tugged back a layer of branches to reveal a small lake, hidden on the edge of the property.
Tam couldn't hold back the gasp that emerged from his throat as he beheld the body of water- he'd, of course, seen many in his life, but none quite as peaceful as this one.
Tam really did love water. He loved the way it splashed, ripples moving slowly towards the outer ring. He loved the serenity that it carried, the knowledge that even with it was beaten down and evaporated, there would always be more to take its place. It survived, and it held no grudges, simply sharing its beauty.
But he rarely got to see large pools of water anymore. Even after moving back to Choralmere, where there were silent ponds everywhere. He stayed in his room or got out of the house- he refused to give his parents the satisfaction of being enjoying it there.
Even when he had the chance to swim, Linh would be there. Linh, who couldn't swim, couldn't be in the water. It was always a danger to have her around lakes or rivers, so they simply didn't go.
Tam hadn't had a chance to enjoy the glistening, tranquil beauty of water in a long time.
So how had she known?
Biana was staring at him with a satisfied look on her face, as if she'd somehow known how much this meant. As if she'd somehow guessed his most hidden wish (well, second most hidden wish) and fulfilled it.
She took his hand again- warmth spread through his body- and led him towards the edge of the lake, taking off her heels and walking into the water mid-calve. Tam followed suit, removing his socks and shoes and simply savoring the feeling of Biana's hand in his and the cool brush of liquid against his toes.
"Do you like it?" Biana's satisfied gaze turned a little nervous, and he quickly nodded.
"Yes," Tam breathed. "It's amazing. I never knew this was here before."
"It's hidden really well," Biana told him animatedly. "I only just found it a few weeks ago, and I've been exploring Everglen since I was two."
For once, Tam shared in her excitement.
...
He seemed so happy.
Tam didn't show many feelings. Since they'd started dating, Biana had to coax each smile and laugh out of him, working past the hard shell he'd built up around himself to get to the softness she knew was inside.
He liked mallowmelt, so she made some for him (not well, but close enough).
He seemed to love the water, so she brought him to the lake.
Tam didn't really like physical contact- every time she grabbed his hand he would stiffen for a second on instinct before relaxing again. He was touch starved, she suspected, so she made a point to grab his hand whenever she could, brushing his shoulder and arms and pressing kisses to his cheeks.
He'd stopped flinching at contact; he'd even started to touch her back.
But he still was withdrawn, so Biana showed him that he didn't have to be. She showed him laughter at the randomest jokes, and impromptu dancing, and twirling around just for the fun of it.
And right now, he seemed so happy. A gentle smile was on his face while he studied the lake, his silver bangs shining on his forehead as he brushed them to the side, allowing the sunlight to hit his face.
He dropped her hand, and disappointment clouded her face. Then he was cupping her cheek (was this what they called fireworks?) and pressing his forehead against hers. She let her arms come around his waist, and his circled her own as they stood, noses just barely touching, eyes closed.
Tam's fingers trailed down her hair, and Biana let a smile curl her lips.
...
Love wasn't all kisses.
It wasn't saying romantic things, and bringing roses and living together and making out whenever.
(It could be, but it wasn't)
Tam loved exactly one person, and it has been that way all of his life.
His world revolved around his sister, and he couldn't imagine life without her.
That, he thought, is love.
But then Sophie came, and she invited him into her world. A world with friends and casual laughter. A world without lies and masks and deceit.
And one day, he met a brunette girl with teal eyes, and she flipped his world around.
Soon, he couldn't imagine life without her, either.
Soon, he wanted to spend every second with her, because he could never get enough of her laughs and smiles and glimmering eyes.
And that, Tam thought, is love.
...
Love wasn't all that, Biana had always thought.
Her friends loved each other, but they always seemed to keep secrets and be awkward and hide behind their masks.
Her parents were in love, but dad never seemed to be home, and mom was always trying to please him.
She liked certain people well enough. She thought she loved them. But there was really only one person she loved; the only person who didn't lie and gosip and stab her in the back.
For a while, she followed her brother around, because her friends weren't really her friends.
He was her role model, a beacon of real light in a fake world, and she could imagine life no other way.
But then Sophie came, and she brought a world where friends loved one another, and they laughed and cried together, showing emotion in a world of plastic happiness.
Then she met a boy with silvery blue eyes, and her world froze and began again.
Soon, he was the only person she could really talk to, and she wanted to spend every minute of every day with him, with his soft smiles and shining hair and gentle laughs.
And that, Biana thought, is love.
So yeah
That turned out okay, I think :)
I kinda threw it all together... I wrote this in like 30 minutes lol
