One Wrong Move
The day shad started off like any other.
Fireproof suit: On.
Protective helmet: On.
Thick leather boots: On.
Feed the dragons.
Unchain them for a few hours.
Chain them back up before lunch.
But from there, everything just seemed to go downhill.
This job had never been too difficult of a task for Sue. She'd grown up being the eldest of eleven siblings; to her, the job was just like being a child all over again. Maybe even simpler. Other than at mealtimes the dragons always wore muzzles.
Today, however, when she was putting the muzzles back on to the dragons after their lunch, which normally was challenging but manageable, one dragon, called Rosie, fought against her more valiantly than ever before. Sue knew that something was wrong. But these dragons were illegal dragons, and her boss had made it clear to her on her first day that no-one was to know of their existence. Not even an emergency vet. Meaning that Sue had to manage this situation on her own.
"Woah, Rosie, take it easy girl!" she attempted to soothe. It didn't work. Rosie whacked her tail across Sue's face, knocking her to the ground before breathing a sudden bout of fire directly into her face. Rosie was suddenly glad for the protective gear which was her uniform. Without it, her face would have been burnt to a crisp. Without it, she most certainly would have just been killed.
She rolled out of the way. Time to put her combat training to good use. She rolled out of the line of fire from Rosie's mouth, grabbing onto her tail when she attempted to use it to pin her down to the ground. Rosie then swung her high into the air in outrage, and Sue took the opportunity to swing herself onto Rosie's back and permanently out of harm's way. Now she was safe. All she had to do was cling on to Rosie and put on her muzzle. Easier said than done. One wrong move and she was back to square one.
The fight went on for several minutes, but finally, Sue was successful. Every dragon had on their muzzle, and Rosie had been chained up near the door so that she couldn't attempt to attack Sue again. Sue would be able to release her as she closed the door behind her, so that Rosie would be free and Sue would be safe. She played with the other dragons for a bit, before finally leaving to contact her boss about Rosie.
A week later, Sue's job was back to being how it always had been, and Rosie was feeling as right as rein.
