"Ay up, Babs!"
Babs, this is for you and your amazingness!
Babs is a mother, a grandmother, a hero of hope to many in our small hometown.
You were the woman who took my hand when I was alone, and never once did you let go of me. Even though you had gone through the darkest times, you somehow still had strength to share and love to give. I'd say that makes you an extraordinary person.
You taught me to be brave and catch every dream with both hands. To be grateful no matter what because life has never claimed to be straightforward. I'd say that makes you honest.
You explained your journey in this world and made me see that things are worth fighting for if you believe in them enough to make a change not only for now but for our future women too. I'd say you are an inspiration.
You went back to university on your fiftieth birthday to finish your nursing degree after bringing up eight wonderful, open-minded and open-hearted children. I'd say that is determination and setting an example.
You dance like you have to and smile like you need to. Happiness is your signature, fun is your ally, bringing joy to any table, amongst any crowd, in any part of the world.
When I was sixteen, and my life suddenly changed, you told me to get a bag, pack my things and stay with you, without question, judgment or opinion, and that was humbling and still to this day reminds me to remain humble.
"Don't you worry; it's all going to be ok. I'm here for you."
Little did I know you would make the darkness into light and make my sadness into a positive. You did that, Babs. You changed the thought process of my life and helped me find a silver lining.
When one woman takes the hand of a girl and helps her grow into a woman, that very woman supports another woman, and the story never ends because it simply never has to.
You have masses of friends and a forever growing family by your side because you have impacted so many people. Giving out inspiration is your speciality.
Every day you are saving lives. Every day you are the open arms for someone who needs a hug. Every day you support whoever you can.
Babs, I thank you for everything, for everything back then and everything now. You make me proud to have trekked beside you.
You are my one woman from many who help make the world a better place!
