~46~: Help Request
While me and my brother were outside talking, all of the sudden the party started to get a lot louder which made us worry. We were both not able to ignore the tumult which was happening inside and immediately rushed to see what was going on. Looking at both our faces was worrying. It didn't take to be a detective to know what Ryan was thinking. We were both talking about a war earlier and nothing good could such a commotion mean.
Without any kind of stop, we rushed into the banquet room to see all the people there still in place but there were soldiers who just marched inside. They didn't seem to be the soldiers of the duchy at all.
"Stay back..."
My brother stopped me before I could step out in front of them and held my hand. He was worried but I didn't really get why. Who were these knights and what were they doing here? They seemed to ignore all the guest and were directly marching in. I could see why the guest went screaming earlier since these knights didn't care about casualties or hurting anyone at all.
"The crown has requested the help of the church in their mission to eradicate the evil dragons offspring."
All the people were starting to get nervous since they knew that Ryan was here. The knights on the other hand didn't notice that my brother was standing right behind me. Then again, it didn't seem as if they cared a lot anyways.
This head knight went straight for the middle of the room and then announced this before even seeing where anyone was. Of course Micheal had to react to the call and came out of the crowd of guests. He seemed calm but who could be calm in this situation? This child had just a really good poker face that was all. I even doubted that he knew what to do right now. It was quite a cruel world that such a young child would be actually forced to take up a leading role. He should enjoy his youth but that was definitely not possible with such a threatening future.
"I am Micheal del Gracio, the current leader and high priest leading this church. How may we help?"
"The crown has requested for the church to standby and watch the battle from the side as well as heal our injured knights."
"May I ask why there is a war going on and when this is happening?"
"It is currently in process. Tonight the first attack will happen and thus requested the help of the church immediately."
"I see but why would the crown attack the Underwoods' duchy?"
"Are you defying the crown right now?"
"I am the leader of the CHURCH! The church isn't something the crown can order around."
"Refusal will be seen as treason."
"I guess, this is treason then. It would be our death penalty to wage a war against the duchy anyways. THE KING IS A FOOL!"
I was shocked to see Micheal burst out screaming like this. I knew he hated the crown and all but this was a bit excessive especially with all these knights armed and ready to strike down at my friend. Still he continued to talk and he was ready to expose the crown. Maybe this was the right situation or it may also be the complete opposite of that. However it was necessary to speak up. I knew that. Yet if I were in his shoes, I wouldn't be able to do what he was doing right now.
"Don't you fear the oracle? I am sure the king has told his loyal knights the cause of the war. Yet that fool refuses to accept the true oracle."
People around us started to talk and they all seemed confused. No one ever heard about such an oracle and that was to be expected with the crown silencing them all and even go so far as to kill a huge amount of holy people of the church that even the floor was stained red from all the blood.
"What is the new pope talking about?"
"An oracle? How didn't we know about this earlier?"
"What oracle is he talking about?"
"Only Saints can receive an oracle... it can't be that our new Saintess had a revelation..."
"When all the dragons rise to the air, they will leave nothing but ashes behind! Don't you understand the meaning behind this"
Micheal simply revealed the oracle in front of everyone and in return he also got a knife pointed at his neck which was threatening to take it off any minute. The knights were done playing along with a child like Micheal but there was really not something they could do about it. He already had told the oracle to the people and they started to talk and a couple conclusions came down but most people in this room got the right idea behind this.
"My god! We can't kill the duke and his family! They are our protectors!"
"If they die, we die! How can the king let this happen?"
"Does the king want to end our lives?"
The voices became louder and louder. Of course these people knew the meaning behind rising in the air and leaving nothing but ashes. After all, there were all kinds of meanings behind the word rising. Most of the time it meant to rise up to another world, the world of the dead. With that being said it was now clear who was the true villain in all this.
However the knights didn't care about these conversations of the nobles, they didn't care about the deductive skills of them. All they wanted was to get what they came for. Instead of protecting the people, one of the knights came out lashing and unshielding his sword towards a noble who was talking out loudly as well.
What followed next was nothing but chaos. The people started arguing more and more, hate was filled in their words. The knights of their family, which were on the side of this room the whole time, came in and were about to protect their very own master. However it was too late for this man if I didn't act at all.
How can they do this!
I can't believe they want to silence all of these nobles!
Who the fuck do they think they are?
This is nothing but tyranny!
"RYAN!"
"Already on it. Go help the man out."
I think my brother knew what I was thinking about. I wanted to help this man as he didn't do anything bad at all. My brother seemed angry as well. It was not only me who wouldn't stand this injustice at all.
"Make way!"
Hurriedly I started running towards the man while my brother threw a dagger he apparently had hidden in his jacket towards the sword which was on Micheal's neck. It not only immediately deflected the sword but made it fly away from the hand of that rude knight. Meanwhile he started walking to the front exposing himself. More importantly he was ready to fight and slaughter them all. I felt his bloodlust and I felt how angry he was. Everyone could feel it but for normal human beings like all the guests, they couldn't help but freeze at this heavy presence.
"RYAN, GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!"
It was dangerous and I was sure if I hadn't called out to him like that, he would have lost himself immediately right there. Thankfully he kinda snapped out and the presence began to evaporate a bit.
I was still hurrying to the man as fast as I could and when I was standing in front of him, I immediately touched the wound on instinct and started healing him up. All the people around me were young nobles who also knew how to fight or so I would guess by their protective stand around me.
"You'll be fine."
I hope...
This looks bad!
I don't know if I can deal with something like this... guess I need to trust in my own skills...
Why can't my life be easy at all?
Bit by bit, I felt the energy leave my body and I was getting a lot more tired than what I already was. I even had to be careful at this point not to suddenly just drop down to the ground. I fear that my body wouldn't be able to take it if I would heal any more people than I already had.
"Please...please...please..."
As desperate as I was to save this innocent life, I started to pray to myself. Thankfully the wound started to heal and close up. The blood was still everywhere and even on my hands and white clothes but it was worth it if that meant this man would regain his consciousness.
"Saintess!"
I heard someone call me but I had my eyes closed the whole time. I don't even know when I closed them to heal up this man. Maybe it was when I touched his wound and it felt gross. Never do I want to touch anyone like this. The blood which was flowing was thicker than water and I felt the flesh wound beneath it. It was really deep and I could even see some of his vitals!
Thank god that this man woke up and even touched my shoulder and called out to me, stopping me from continuing what I was doing.
"Thank god...."
"Thank you! Thank you soo much!"
"HOW DARE YOU!"
There it was again. One of the soldiers who called out to me. Why do people always say that line before something bad happens? I would never understand that but right now I was safe and I knew this because around me there were some nobles standing guarding me and their knights in front of them. Not to mention that my brother was killing the king's knights off like flies and when he saw this one approaching me, he was already on his way to kill this son of a bitch as my brother would certainly refer. Oh well for me they were all bastards since they dared to harm innocent lives and were ready to end all lives in this kingdom at once by obeying their very own command.
"OH YOU DON'T GET A SAY!"
I could just barely see my brother arrive and then the man in front of me shielded my vision. Not only them but also the man who I just saved put his hand around my eyes above the veil.
"This is not a scene a child like you should see...."
"As if anything is something a child like her should experience..."
"Very true..."
Now that I had them shielding my vision all I could rely on were my ears. I could hear the screams of soldiers which I believe were the kings knight. Then I could smell this heavy ironic scent of blood. To top this all off, I could also hear them drown in their own blood as the blade pierces through their skin. Come to think of it, I could definitely hear the skin ripping as well. It made me shiver thinking about it.
Then silence.
There was a minute of silence before this man released his hand from my eyes and I could see them make path to my brother which came over and then kneeled in front of me.
"I am sorry you had to encounter this."
"Are you hurt?"
"No. I am fine."
"Micheal?"
"He is over there with the holy knights."
"The others?"
"Don't worry, I took care of them."
I was sure that all the people around us were actually disapproving of our talk but they didn't know that I was an Underwood and it probably would be better as well. That was what I thought for now. Still these nobles didn't dare to tell my brother to stop talking and back away since he just killed a lot of people on his own in the blink of an eye. Not only that but he even protected the Saintess and the new Pope as well. This had to give him some kind of credits at least.
"What about the others? Did anyone else get injured besides the king's knights?"
"No one."
"I am glad about that."
"Now it's my turn... Please lend us your help."
My brother formally put in a request of help towards me and not the church as an organization. I knew what this meant and I was ready to accept it. It seemed however I was not the only one thinking this way since Micheal spoke up before I even could say anything at all.
"The church will aid the Underwood duchy!"
The moment Micheal announced that, everyone in the room started cheering. It was crazy how fast you could change their opinions if they knew the full truth behind the hate towards the duchy. Besides their lives were now in the hands of the Underwoods as if they would die one day, every other living being would too.
