She is capable of remaining calm and level-headed when everyone else has lost themselves. Naturally she has a smile that is calming to look at and Some guide their emotions off of her. They know if she's freaking out then there's something very wrong!

𝘐𝘕𝘛𝘌𝘓𝘓𝘐𝘎𝘌𝘕𝘛: There have been many times that Mae has been told to shut her mouth or keep to herself as she was growing up. She didn't have an easy childhood and her high intelligence mixed with curiosity constantly got her into trouble as she would open her mouth when it wasn't the best time to do so. She is great at reading people, almost like a gift, she can tell when they are lying. Her intelligence and ability to seperate emotion from decisions gave her a position as an advisor to her 'mate' and queen. Though, some think it was given to her only because of her relation to them and don't like another female authoritative figure other than the queen. 

𝘗𝘙𝘖𝘛𝘌𝘊𝘛𝘐𝘝𝘌: Mae will put herself in harms away in front of those who she cares about, even if it risks her life. She has done it once before for the queen and would do it again in a heart beat even if it is her fear. She isn't a woman to sit back and let others protect her, she will face danger head on with the rest of her people, standing on the front line besides Merikh if that's what it takes.

𝘜𝘕𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘉𝘓𝘌: There are parts about Mary-Alice that she doesn't open up about. Her past wasn't a cheerful childhood like for many others. It was dark and horrid when you know all of the details. She suffered pain and torment for many years and furthermore lost her destined mate in a great war as someone held a direct grudge against her. Though she appears almost perfect on the outside, her inner thoughts torment her. If someone really wants to get to her and speak of her deceased mate, she will snap and it's hard to reel her back in.

𝘚𝘛𝘙𝘖𝘕𝘎-𝘞𝘐𝘓𝘓𝘌𝘋: Growing up with the life that Mae did, it's almost required to have a strong will in order to survive. She will travel to hell and back and continue to hold her head high. She will not bow or kneel before anyone even if it brings her death.

Mary-Alice was born the only child in her family, due to her father's close relationship with the past king her family was close to those of the royals. At a young age Mary-Alice was assigned as the Lady of the future queen. The two were quick to become friends, making only their assigned relationship easier with time. When a threat came to the Kingdom of Havenrest and the queen went into hiding, Mary-Alice and one other were the only ones to know about the arrangement. They were the only ones who knew where she was kept. Being three years older than the queen herself, Mary-Alice took on the role of a sister figure towards Merikh. 

At the age of fifteen Mae found herself her destined mate, a human girl in the nearby town. Having a human as a destined mate was practically unheard of, almost a myth. Mae fell hard and fast for her, wanting nothing more than to be with her but protect her at the same time. The entire situation was dangerous, her own world like a death sentence to the human but unable to stay away from her. In the mixture of a war between the species the unimaginable happened. After only a few years after finding her she slipped from Mae's grasp. She blames herself for not being able to protect her. Mae received a letter simply signed -vamp with a photo of Carter unconscious and body badly beaten. She didn't even consider if she was still alive, only hoping that she was now at peace. After the death of her destined mate, Mary-Alice put all of her time and effort into the mission of protecting Merikh until she was ready to take her kingdom back .One night at the age of nineteen they were almost discovered, but to protect the queen Mary-Alice caused a distraction which resulted in her capture. She was brutally tortured leaving her body with numerous scars and marks in memory of the experience. It went on for a year and a half before she managed to escape and return back home. Most of her experience she kept a secret and has yet to disclose to anyone about what she went through. Upon her return she was mated with the 'king' of Havenrest as a political stance as well as to protect her from further threats. Her mate-ship with the man is strictly platonic and the two - though referring to each other as husband and wife - only see each other as good friends.
