Chapter 20: Dead and Seek (4-6)

Kurochi POV

I see the lamb, looking out of breath. She’s stumbling, obviously not used to running.

I have an idea, but I’ll need help.

“Hey, I’ve got a fun twist~”

Kano looks at me, then to Marry. “What is it…?”

“I’ll give you back your snake for now. But remember, I can see right through you. Anyway, here’s the plan…”

Marry POV

“I… can’t… run… any… more…” I wheeze and trip down an alleyway. All of a sudden, Seto runs into me. I fall to the ground, he looks shocked and he helps me up.

“Oh, my God! Marry, I’m sorry, I should have stayed with you.” He picks me up and puts me on his back. Kido rounds the corner, a concerned look on her face.

“I’ve decided that we should stay together. Let’s go find the others.” She said, head down.

“Okay!” I say. Seto smiles at me.

I’m glad that I’m with Seto and Kido. I know they they’ll stay by me no matter what. We’ll win this game, I know we will.

“I need to show you something…” Kido says. She and Seto share a look and nod. Seto is no longer smiling. The mood has dropped way down.

We take twists and turns down alleyways and we finally get to our destination. I stuff a fist in my mouth to keep from screaming. There, on the wall in front of me, are Kido and Seto’s dead bodies.

“W-what’s the m-meaning of this…?”

Seto puts me on the ground silently and softly smiles at me. “We’re ghosts, you see,” he says quietly, and Kido nods. “We brought you here since she won’t come here again. It’s safe for you here.”

I whimper and feel my hair wiggling on my back. I feel faint…

Seto is there in an instant and catches me. He has to use both hands, because I went straight through his fist hand. “Before long,” Kido said, her head turned away, “you won’t be able to touch us at all.”

I take another glimpse at the bloody figures against the wall, and drown in blackness.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

When I’m up again, Seto is standing over me, concerned. “You okay, Marry?” it’s almost nighttime now. I slowly get up, shaking gravel out of my hair. That was a mistake. My head is pounding, and I need more rest, but I get up. “I’m fine.”

Seto tries to put a hand on my shoulder, but it goes straight through. My shoulder feels cold as I stare at him in dismay. “I-I’m sorry.”

Seto smiles at me, and stands up tall. “No need,” he’s morphing now, morphing into someone else. “You fell for it~”

There, in front of me, is the one who is “it”. Kido is no longer there, either, the one who is standing there is…

Kano.

Tears streaming down his cheeks, he’s staring at the wall beside my head, not able to meet my eyes. “I-I’m so sorry, Marry…”

“K-Kano…? Why?” I try to ask, but I am frozen in fear. The one who is “it” has a gun to my temple, laughing. “I can’t believe you were so gullible~!” she laughs, tilting her head so she’s looking at me. “Ghosts aren’t real. Your boyfriend and your precious Danchou are dead. Nevertheless, it’s time for your end, little Medusa…”

I look at Kano with wide eyes. “Help me…” now he’s looking away from me completely, tears gone, as if he doesn’t care what happens to me. My tears replace his, and I can’t believe my eyes.

“Welcome to~

Horrible,

Pitiful,

Fictional,

Reality~!”

Before I go, I see a transparent-looking Seto standing over his body, and a clear Kido doing the same. They’re trying to get to me, but they can’t seem to get out of the area. I smile at them, and everything fades so quickly, I don’t get to see if they smile back.

Kurochi POV

I gave him back his snake, but I still can see straight through him. On the outside, he looks passive, looking somewhere far off, but on the inside, he’s weeping, hand over his mouth to stifle sobs. I read his mind.

I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry!

I roll my eyes and take her snake from her. It looks more alive than the rest, slithering around in the air. I smile as canines elongate, and an outline of scales grow on my temples and along my cheeks. My hair moves around, and seems to be exited, lashing out at the air. My sight, hearing, and sense of smell become even better than before. My tongue is forked, and I can taste the air, smelling the faint scent of peaches in the air.

I grab him by the hood and pull him along with me. “It’s time to find our next hider~!”

I remember something I had to do, first. I grad a fistful of the girl’s hair, and yank, hard. It comes out in my hand, and I stick in in my pocket.

“What are you going to use that for?”

“I’ll sell it.” I say. What else am I going to use it for? “I could force money into my hands, but that’s no fun. Police would fall before me. But when I run out of money, what am I going to do then…? Ah~ but the future is so far away from here. Let’s get going, shall we?”

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Momo POV

Kano… why is he with her…?

I don’t understand it, Kano wouldn’t just stand there and watch Marry get killed like that. But, then again, that’s exactly what I did. I ran away after that, and I’m sure Kano saw me. He was looking straight into my eyes. At first, I expected him to rat me out, but he just mouthed ‘Run.’ So now I’m running. I’m sure Kano was forced into helping her. I saw how pained Kano looked when Marry…

I stop. I was too busy thinking, and now I’m in an alley that I don’t know of. I run anyway, not stopping, knowing that she would catch up to me if I did. I run as fast as I can. I get a little tired, so I being walking. Then, I hear footsteps behind me, and voices.

“She’s behind here, you said?” Kano.

“Of course. Unless she keeps running.”

“This is going too slow! Why can’t we just kill her already?”

I can almost hear her smile. “So, you’re finally into the game, huh~? Good for you. Anyway, we have to do it like this, to give them time to hide. They’ve been doing a bad job of it, really, just mainly running. Should we call it hide and seek, or tag? Your move, darling~”

“How about hide-and-go-seek tag?”

“Ooh~ that’s perfect!” she squeals with delight. I can see their shadows now.

Damn! I shouldn’t have been so curious, now look where it got me. I don’t have any time to run. I look around.

There!

A group a garbage cans. I wedge myself behind them. I wish I’d worn something a bit darker, they could easily distinguish me from these. But it was almost dark; they shouldn’t be able to see me now.

Suddenly, trash goes flying everywhere and I am exposed, and the ones who are “it” are standing there. “Found you~” she grabs me by my collar and hauls me upwards, choking me. “Did you really think that I wouldn’t see you?” she says, squeezing the fabric like it had something that was hers. “You, of all the people left, should have figured out my plan. You know I have “Stealing Eyes” now, and that I have exemplary vision. Did you really think you could hide from me? Did you?!” she tosses me back into the trash, like I’m an unwanted fish getting thrown into the sea.

She sighs. “I just hate it when people are ignorant, don’t you, darling~”

Kano walks up beside her, smirking down at me evilly. “It’s absolutely disgusting,” he says.

“What do you think I should to her?”

“Fire. I think the ‘legendary’ Momo Kisaragi should go out with a bang.”

“Very well.” She took a match from her pocket. And lit it. I could see her smile, fanged teeth making it look scarier. The shadows dancing across her face made her look like something out of a horror movie. “Do you mind doing the honors this time~?”

“Gladly.” Kano takes the match from her hands and walks towards me, smirking.

I back up a little, surprised that I can even still move. “K-Kano, you wouldn’t…”

“Oh, but I would!” Kano said, holding the match in my face. “I’m different now, Miss. This woman here taught me something. My power no longer controls me; I control it. My life is going to be better.” His voice was saying that but his eyes were saying, I’m so sorry, Momo…

Suddenly, my clothes were on fire, and it was slowly catching onto the lower parts of my hair, and going upwards from there.  I heard faraway shrieks that sounded like mine, but I don’t know if they were, because I could barely hear anything through the horrible, terrible pain that was coursing through my every vein, pore, and hair. It was slowly killing me. I couldn’t see, hear or feel anything other than pain. I could feel my skin burning away. A few more seconds and I would be dead.

But at least I went out with a bang.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Kurochi POV

I kick her limp body around with my foot. “This is the famous Momo Kisaragi? I think we’ve taken her for someone else. Aren’t stars supposed to be smart? Or is this a stereotype that doesn’t exist yet?”

“I don’t think it exists yet.”

“Well, people should start fooling themselves. This girl definitely was not smart.” I take her snake from her, and though it’s virtually useless, I could use it to do something useful. I haven’t thought of it yet, though. I sigh, hands on my hips. “This is getting boring. Why won’t someone put up an actual fight?” I pout, hanging my head.

I hear twin tails swishing off the right. One just happens to be close to another, I guess. She trips, and I even hear her give a soft ‘Oof’ as the air gets pushed out of her lungs. I smile, this hearing is great. You could call me a monster, I guess you would be right. I’m more like a monster than any of the rest of them are. It doesn’t bother me anymore like it used to, though. I’m fine if anyone calls me ‘monster’. But soon, everyone will be bowing down and calling me ‘Mistress”.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Takane POV

I was tripping down the alleyways. I still wasn’t used to not having my power. It made me feel weaker, like a game controller that’s down to one battery. I crave electricity, it makes me feel like I can live forever. ((A/N Because you can))

I trip, once, twice, three times. When I look up the third time, the one who is “it” is standing there, gun twirling in one hand. Standing behind her is someone I thought was on our side. He was smirking at me.

“Kano, I thought you were with us! How could you?!”

Kano just laughed. “That’s over now.”

“Dead Bullet runner-up, huh?” the other one says, forked tongue flicking in and out between two sharp fangs. “Let’s have a gunfight, and see who wins.” She tossed me a gun. I barely caught it, between my two fingers before she said, “Go!”

She shot to my head, and I launched out of the way before she could hit me. Her eyes were red. She’d already moved out of the way before I’d actually shot the gun, and she shot where I was running to, so I had to stop short. After a few minutes, I was breathing hard, and she was just fine.

“No… fair! You’re… anticipating… my moves!” I wheezed between breaths.

“Here,” she says, and a red snake comes out of her midriff. “I’ll give to “Stealing Eyes”, and I’ll have “Telling Eyes”. Now we’re even. A strange feeling burns inside my head. I hear voices inside it, and there’s a familiar burning behind my eyes, and I know they’ve gone red.

“Seto…” I clench my fists. “You’ve killed all of them before me in number… I’ll never forgive you!”

“Oh, well that’s too bad.” She says, aiming her gun at me. “Soon, you won’t be in this world, whether you forgive me or not.”

There’s a flurry of dots flying my way, and things seem to go in slow motion. I move out of the way, and shoot at her, she darts to my side, aims, and fires. I’m reading her mind. Left, right, shoot, move, duck, twist, shoot. I do the exact opposite of her movements. Soon, she is caught in between two walls, and I’ve won. I shoot at her and finish the job. She just gives a “Hah!” and…

Catches the bullet in midair.

I drop my arms, mouth hanging open in awe. “H-how—?!”

She raises her head a bit. “Don’t you see? I’ve already won!” She pitches the bullet at me, with the force of a truck, and I go barreling into the wall behind me, a deep wound in my chest. She walks in front of me smirking evilly. “You like electricity, right?”

I growl at her, refusing to answer.

“I’ll kill you with it!” Her hands reach to the sky, as if the was calling on something. I look to the sky, and for a split second, I see a bright white light hurdling towards me. I feel pain, so much pain, and my eardrums burst, my hair burns, and my skin smokes, and I feel no more.

Kano POV

I can’t take this anymore. I just watched someone get killed my lightning, at her will. And I’m guessing that that’s was only a show of a fraction of her power. I glace at the spot where Takane last sat, and I curse myself for joining this evil woman.

But there’s no turning back now.

She wipes off her hands, covered in her ashes. “She put up a fight,” she says, brushing off her pants. “That was fun. Did you see her face when I caught the bullet? Priceless!”

I laugh softly, still pretending to play along with her. Chi said she knows how to bring them back, to just play along for now, but there’s only three left now, and she needs to hurry. I wonder what she’s doing now. Probably working her butt off, trying to get control over body again. I’m silently rooting her on, but she really heeds to hurry, before they’re all gone…

I know what you're thinking: SHE FINALLY GOT THIS POSTED!

Yes, I finally got this posted. Truthfully, I'm doing a lot more planning than I am writing. And watching anime than I am writing. But at least it did it.

Okay I'm tired, my and my head hurts, so I'm just going to watch anime in pitch-blackness while laying sideways. It might not be the best cure, but Imo do it anyway.

Lol Takane just got Kamehameha'd (No not really)

Bai, let's set the city on fire with lightning, and be safe (unless you're actually going to do that...)
