Ayano POV

Chi’s awake now, but something’s different. She seems distant, and we need to call her name several times before she responds. When she does respond, it’s a quick answer like ‘Yes’, ‘No’, ‘Maybe’, ‘Check with Kido’, or something like that. Kano and Chi’s conversations go like this most of the time:

Kano: Hey, you hungry?

Chi: No.

Kano: Uh, okay, do you want something to drink?

Chi: Check with Kido, maybe she knows.

Kano: But I’m asking you.

Chi: Maybe.

Kano: My head’s engulfed in flames.

Chi: Just don’t get in anyone’s way while you do that, okay?

“Yep, she’s a goner,” Kano said, scratching his head and shrugging.

“I’m worried,” Marry said, while she read her book in the corner.

“I am, too.” I said.

That’s not all. She appears to be very traumatized by the event that happened yesterday, because we were watching the National Geographic® channel and then the person said the word ‘cave’, Chi’s eyes got big and she ran off, muttering something about a walk. Seto, who takes off at the drop of a hat, also ran out of the door, saying that he’d be going to the mountains. He had that I-have-a-secret-that-I’m-not-allowed-to-tell-you look on his face.  I ran up to look off of the balcony, just to see where they were going.

Seto was calling to Chi. She just pulled her hoodie down over her head more. Seto ran in front of her, and started saying things I couldn’t hear. Chi just kept shaking her head, her face in her hands. I could see her jaw moving, so she was saying something. Seto grabbed her shoulders and she pushed him off, shouting something. Seto landed on the ground, and she looked at her hands with an expression that I couldn’t describe. She ran off towards the outskirts of town, with Seto calling to her form the ground, looking panicked. He ran back inside, running his hands through his hair like he did when he was nervous.

“Oh no oh no oh no oh no…” he muttered “Trouble! Now! Come! Chi! Hurry!” was all he said, and he tried to pull all of us out the door.

“Whoa, Whoa.” Kido said, “Tell us what happened first.”

Seto launched into a hasty explanation, saying how we had to hurry and go after Chi before she—

“She WHAT?!” Kido said. “Oh, God, this is bad.

Kano looked like he was hyperventilating, his chest going up and down at and amazing speed. “Chi—she—said—what?!”

“Oh, my…” Marry said, hands over her mouth.

“We have to go!” I said, walking out of the door.

Once we were all outside, we ran in the direction Seto was pointing. I saw a white hoodie bobbing through the crowd. “There she is!” I shouted, and we ran over towards her. However, she heard me shout, and she turned, eyes wide. Then, her eyes narrowed and glowed the madder red. She turned, running faster, around the bend and into an alley. We chased her through the alleyways, and finally she got stuck in a dead end.

Momo, who has the most stamina, spoke first. “Chi, you don’t have to do this—"

“What part of ‘don’t follow me’ do you people not understand?!” Chi said, looking exasperated. “I don’t have time for this.”

She started to walk between us, avoiding us, as if she didn’t want to touch us. Kano clapped a hand on your shoulder “Don’t—"

“Don’t touch me!” Chi yelled, and surprised by the sudden outburst, Kano’s and slid off of Chi. “You might get poisoned.”

“What?” Shintaro asked, looking confused.

“I’m a monster! No human being can withstand being shot twenty times! See? Look at me!” Chi’s illusion slid off, and we saw that her hair was getting black at the edges, and her eyes were no longer hazel, they were glowing a bright greenish-yellow. “I’m going to kill you all, every single one of you, unless I banish myself to the Haze.”

I walked up to her. “Chi-chan, you don’t have to do this!” I put a hand on her shoulder.

She jerked out of my reach. “Stay back! I don’t want you to get hurt!” this time, a voice spoke along with Chi’s, a more mature woman’s voice. The black was slowly creeping up Chi’s hair, and it was now half black, half gray. Her eye glowed brighter with every word, and now it was getting painful to look at her. She stared at her hands in fear. “I-I don’t w-want to hurt y-you…” tears were streaming down her eyes now.

“I-it’s okay,” Takane said, but she made no move towards Chi.

“You’re scared of me, now, aren’t you? That’s okay, I’m scared of me too.” Her hair was wriggling like Marry’s did, and her hair was almost fully dark now. “You’d better run,” She said quietly. “I’m coming to get you.” She was softly smiling now, as dark snakes came out of her core and wrapped around her, and soon, she was fully bound in snakes. They fell off of her, and her hair was completely black. She twirled a gun in her hand. She looked distinctly more evil, an insane grin plastered on her face.

“I told you to run,” she said, and she smirked. “Ah, I’ll give you fifty seconds, then I’ll come and find you~”

“I think we’d better do what she says, guys. If Kido conceals us—"

“Nope!” Dark Chi snapped her fingers. “No concealment, and no deceivers, and no hiding in the depths of cyberspace.” Three snakes flew out of Kido, Kano, and Takane, and they all stumbled to the ground. “You all have fifty seconds until I come for you. Go, hide! It’s like hide and seek~”

We ran, and split up, all over town. I hid in a bush in front of someone’s house. I heard footsteps coming towards me. And old man said, “What are you doing on my property?! Go away!”

“I-I’m sorry, sir, but—" I watched in awe as the man’s face peeled off, revealing a head of dark hair.

“Found you~”

“I thought you said no deceivers!”

“I lied, dear girl. Monsters lie.”

BOOM.

An excruciating pain in my head arose, but I only felt it for a second, because then I didn’t feel anything anymore, and I knew I was dead.

Again.

And things are going to go downhill from there.
