The Dream | September 11, 1939
"Dad?" Jackie screeched in her sleep as she began rolling over dramatically.
She started kicking violently and her covers flung off, accidentally landing on Cole's bed; It caused him to lurch upwards. Cole let out a small squeal and looked around the room, his eyes flickering with fear. He rolled his eyes at himself once he realized it was only Jackie's duvet.
Cole simply removed the duvet and gently placed it on the edge of Jackie's mattress. Then he slipped out of his bed, still feeling completely shocked about what had just happened. He slowly tip-toed over to her, hoping she was okay.
He peered down at Jackie as if he was sizing her up, "Jackie, Jackie, c'mon wake up."
Jackie had been notorious for having nightmares like such as a kid too. At home, the kids shared a room as well, so the two were cognizant of each other's sleeping habits.
Cole shook Jackie until she started to awaken. Instantaneously, her lovely blue eyes finally fluttered open and she began looking around the room curiously, forgetting where she was.
"C-Cole?" Jackie mumbled groggily as she rubbed her eyes letting her eyes adjust om her brother who stood above her.
As he examined his sister's face, he suddenly realized that she had been crying in her sleep. Dried tears remained on her cheek ever so slightly as the moon's light penetrated through the window.
Cole smoothed out her sheet and sat down. Feeling sympathetic for her, he kindly asked her if she needed anything. She asked for water, so he got up and grabbed a glass of cold water for her.
Once Cole left the bedroom, Jackie lay in her bed, her knees cuddled up to her chest as she wiped the tears from her face, reminiscing her horrible nightmare. Soon, Cole came back into her room with her desired drink.
"Thanks, Cole." Jackie whispered as she slowly took a sip of the water, feeling it relieve her dry tongue and throat.
She sighed happily as she inhaled and exhaled. She quickly resumed to drinking the c water.
Cole examined Jackie while she drank the water and eventually Finn walked in, rubbing his eyes. He turned around to see Finn looking like absolute crap, or at least that was what Cole thought.
"Damn it, you woke me up!" Finn groaned angrily as his blueish-green eyes glared at Jackie, "I thought it was some animal or somethin'."
Cole turned away and pulled his eyes away from Jackie. He looked over at Finn who had his hands set on his hips his face scrunched up in disgust. His hair was sticking up everywhere and it was blatantly obvious he had been having a rough night.
"Haha, sure. . I'm sure you're here for some other reason." Cole retorted lifting his eyebrows playfully.
He smirked and looked back at Jackie. She rolled her eyes in annoyance at Cole and gained the confidence to slap him across the face.
"You idiot! Shut up!" Jackie whisper-shouted watching as Cole formed a dumbfounded expression.
Cole seemed extremely surprised that Jackie had the audacity to slap him, but he shook it off and looked back at Finn. He was also giving him a death stare with his icy eyes.
Cole nervously turned back to Jackie, who was calm again. She was playing with her beloved bracelet that her father had given her many years ago. Her father traveled to Mexico once when she was ten years old. When she was younger, she had an issue with parting from her parents. As a way to help her cope, her father bought her a bracelet and claimed that if she ever felt scared, alone, or even uncomfortable, she was supposed to touch it.
"So, uh, what happened in your dream?" Cole asked breaking the awkward silence between them.
"Well, I had a dream where . . ." Jackie swallowed before continuing," Papa died." She managed as she attempted to hold back tears. Jackie wished she never had the dream, but she could not go back in time to change that.
Finn carefully listened to her dream and understood her, but Cole was beginning to panic.
What if her dream was real?
