Skipping Church Excuses

Here is a list of thirty excuses that people use every day for not going to church, and what to say back to them.

#1: "That church is just a bunch of Hippocrates!"
-Would you rather go to church with them, or go to Hell with them?
-We could always have one more!
-Not going to a church because of the "hippocrates" is like not going to a gym because there are out of shape people.
-We're humans! We are all a little hippocratic sometimes, but the people of the church are the ones that strive to be better than that.

#2: "I had a bad experience at that church."
-Ever heard of forgiveness? It probably wasn't even something worth leaving the church for.
-The Bible tells us not to hold grudges.
-There are other churches!
-If you have a bad experience at a restaurant, wouldn't you still go back? It's food!

#3: "I don't have the right clothes to wear."
-You shouldn't be going to show off your fancy new outfit! You should be going to worship God!
-We don't care what you are wearing, and more importantly, God doesn't care! Come as you are!

#4: "I don't understand anything they are talking about."
-Ask someone about it! I'm sure someone will be willing to help you out.
-Research it! Read your Bible!

#5: "They just want my money!"
-Actually, the church can survive without your money, so don't feel like you absolutely have to give, but it is your way of giving back to God.

#6: "I'd go to church if it was more enjoyable!"
-You're the one that determines how enjoyable the service is. You have to set the atmosphere!
-You aren't the audience, God is! You aren't the one seeing how much you can get out of it, you are the one seeing how much you can give God from your worship.

#7: "I don't need to."
-Um, actually you do. Yes, you can worship anywhere, but the Bible teaches us to assemble with our fellow Christians. (Matthew 18:20 says “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”)

#8: "I have to work on Sundays."
-Most churches have a Wednesday evening service.
-If assembling with the other saints is your priority, you can almost always make a way.

#9: "I forgot it was Sunday."
-Uhm no you didn't!
-If you really truly did happen to just forget your days of the week (which is extremely hard to believe someone would actually do), you can't do it every week!

#10: "I don't know which church to go to."
-That's OK! Pray that God will lead you to the right one!
-Find the one that tells you the truth and brings you closer to God. Don't search for entertainment.

#11: "I'd miss football!"
-Get your priorities straight!
-Record it or find it later on the internet!

#12: "I have small children."
-Most churches have a nursery or children's church that you can take them to.
-Sit at the back of the church so if they become fussy you can take them out.

#13: "There's no good looking boys/girls there."
-Since when is church about finding your next crush? Although a church is a great place to find a good, Christian friend, that is not what you should be going to church for.

#14: "I don't have a ride to get there."
-Ask a friend or someone that goes to the church to drive you.
-See if the church has a bus ministry.

#15: "The choir isn't good."
-Again, you're not going to be entertained.
-Don't judge people! At least they are worshiping God when all you're doing is complaining about the church service.
-Ask to join the choir if you really want to make it sound a little better.

#16: "I need to get right with God before I come back in."
-Going to church is a great way to get back on track with God!
-No one is going to judge you for what you've done because everybody sins! It's our human nature! Don't worry about it! It's just you and God!

#17: "My family from halfway across the country is here to visit! I need to spend time with them!"
-Uhm hello?! Bring them to church with you! Learning more about God and worshiping him together is possibly the greatest family bonding you could ever have if you are really into it.

#18: "No one will miss me anyway!"
-I hope that your church family would miss you! But if they don't (which would be sad) God would miss you so much! It would break his heart to see you choose something else before him.

#19: "I don't know anyone there."
-Gee, I wonder if that's because you haven't been there to get to know them...
-The only way to get to know someone is by being around them and talking with them. Get to know your church family! They need you, and you need them!

#20: "I've been feeling down and discouraged lately."
-Woah, what a better way to help that than to go to church! Trust me, going to church (or at least the RIGHT church) can change your sagging spirits around the moment you walk through the door.

#21: "I'll go when I'm older."
-What if today is your last day on Earth? What if God decides to take your life today, and you weren't ready because you kept making excuses not to go to church?

#22: "My alarm didn't go off and I overslept."
-It's OK to be late, as long as you're trying your best to get there.
-If you don't make it that morning, there's always Sunday nights and Wednesdays!
-It won't happen EVERY week.

#23: "I can watch preachers on TV."
-Yes you can and there is nothing wrong with that, but you won't get as much from it as you could if you were actually there.
-Your presence is always wanted and accepted in God's house.

#24: "I don't want to go alone."
-Find a friend or family member to bring with you. They might need to be in church too!
-Someone you know probably goes to that church and you can sit by them.
-You are never alone because God is always with you.

#25: "Having to go to church is a man-made rule."
-Boy, don't you need to read your Bible! It clearly tells us to assemble together as the body of Christ!! In the Bible! (...You might know that if you'd go to church...)

#26: "I don't want them shoving their religion down my throat!"
-First off, we're not going to shove it down your throat. It is your choice to take it or not.
-The whole point of going to church is to learn more about Jesus so if you don't want to hear it, well, you may need to rethink some things.
-We're also NOT religious, we're Christian. There is a major difference.

#27: "Sunday is my only day to sleep in."
-How much are you going to learn about God if you're sleeping?

#28: "My spouse doesn't go."
-That doesn't mean you don't have to!
-Bring them with you! Couples learning about Jesus together is amazing!

#29: "I didn't go when I was a kid. I don't know what it's like."
-You'll never know until you try!
-This could be your last chance. You could die in a few minutes without ever knowing what it's like to have God in your heart.

#30: "I'm too busy!"
-Yes, we are all human. We have jobs, we have school, some of us have kids, we all have houses to clean, laundry to do...but these things should never come between us and God.
-If you are a true Christian, you will have a desire to be in God's house.

Don't be there one to make these excuses. God knows what really happens. Don't let him down. Go to church!
Have a wonderful day! God bless you all!

(Sorry if I sounded a little rude or too sarcastic in some of this. I tried my best to restrain from it as much as I could, but it's been bothering me so much lately the ridiculous excuses people make for not going to church, despite the Bible's many commands.)
