4. Reassurance
As Jungkook's breathing slowly steadied, the room settled into a quiet stillness, punctuated only by the soft sound of Jimin’s calming whispers. He continued to hold Jungkook close, feeling the younger man's body slowly relax against him, though the tension still lingered in his trembling form.
After a few moments, Jimin gently pulled back just enough to look into Jungkook’s eyes. His heart squeezed at the sight of Jungkook’s tear-streaked face, the remnants of fear still visible in his wide, glassy eyes.
“Kook,” Jimin whispered, his voice tender as he cupped Jungkook’s face in his hands, brushing away the tears with his thumbs. “I’m here. I’m not mad at you. I could never be mad at you for something like this.”
Jungkook sniffled, his lip quivering as he tried to process Jimin’s words. “B-But… Yuna… she fell, and I wasn’t paying attention… That lady… she said I shouldn’t be trusted… And then you… you didn’t say anything, so I thought… I thought…”
Jimin’s heart ached at the pain in Jungkook’s voice, the weight of the insecurities that had been festering inside him for so long. He knew how much Jungkook struggled with feeling inadequate, with the pressure of living up to expectations, and he hated that he hadn’t noticed it sooner.
“Jungkook,” Jimin said softly, his voice filled with a mix of sadness and love, “you’re not a bad person for what happened. Yuna fell, yes, but kids fall all the time. It doesn’t make you a bad person, or untrustworthy, or unfit to be around her.”
“But that lady—” Jungkook began, his voice cracking.
“She doesn’t know you,” Jimin interrupted gently but firmly. “She doesn’t know how much you care about Yuna, how much you’ve done for her already. You’re doing the best you can, and that’s all anyone can ask of you. And as for me… I’m so sorry if I made you feel like I was angry or disappointed. I wasn’t, not for a second. I was just worried about Yuna’s knee, that’s all.”
Jungkook blinked, more tears welling up in his eyes as he struggled to believe Jimin’s words. “But I’m so young, Jimin. I’ve never been around kids like this before. What if… what if I mess it all up?”
Jimin’s expression softened, his heart breaking a little more at the raw vulnerability in Jungkook’s voice.
“Kook, I know this is scary. Being responsible for a little life is terrifying, especially when you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. But you’re not alone in this. I’m right here with you. We’re in this together.”
Jungkook’s bottom lip quivered as more tears slipped down his cheeks. “But what if… what if I’m not good enough? What if I make a mistake that really hurts her?”
Jimin shook his head gently, leaning in to press a soft, lingering kiss to Jungkook’s forehead. “You are good enough, Jungkook. You’re more than good enough. And making mistakes doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re learning, just like all of us. I wasn’t perfect when Yuna was born. I was terrified too, scared that I would mess everything up. But I learned, and I’m still learning. And you will too. We’ll learn together, okay?”
Jungkook nodded shakily, his chest tightening with a mix of relief and lingering doubt. But Jimin’s words were like a lifeline, pulling him back from the edge of his panic, giving him something solid to hold on to.
Jimin smiled softly, his eyes filled with so much love and warmth that it made Jungkook’s heart ache.
“I love you, Jungkook. I love you so much. And I love that you care so deeply about Yuna. You’ve already done so much for her, more than you even realize. She adores you. I adore you. And I believe in you, more than you know.”
Jungkook’s breath hitched as the tears continued to fall, but this time they were mixed with the overwhelming relief and gratitude that washed over him. He leaned into Jimin’s touch, letting the warmth of his love seep into every part of him that had been so cold and afraid just moments before.
“I love you too,” Jungkook whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “I love you so much, Jimin. And I… I want to be good for you. For Yuna.”
Jimin’s smile widened, his own eyes glistening with tears.
“You already are, Kook. You already are.”
He pulled Jungkook into a tight embrace, holding him close as if to shield him from all the doubts and fears that had been plaguing him. And in that moment, Jungkook felt safe, truly safe, wrapped in the warmth of Jimin’s love and reassurance.
They stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, letting the emotions ebb and flow until the storm inside Jungkook finally settled. And as they pulled back to look at each other, Jimin leaned in to kiss Jungkook softly, his lips a gentle promise of love and support.
“We’ll figure this out together,” Jimin whispered against his lips. “We’ll take it one step at a time. And no matter what happens, I’ll always be here for you, Kook. Always.”
Jungkook nodded, feeling the weight of his fears start to lift, replaced by the warmth of Jimin’s words and the certainty of his love. He wasn’t alone in this. He had Jimin, and he had Yuna. And that was all he needed to keep moving forward.
The end!
I really hope you enjoyed this. It took me a while to write it. It's probably the lengthiest fanfic I've written in a long while. Hehe.
