#38: Stargazing

Dazai pulls back the curtains, revealing the summer nighttime sky. It was navies and purples and blacks. Little speckles of silver dance across each inch. It's like a painting come to life.

He sits beside Chuuya as he removes his hat (Thank goodness, Dazai thinks), who's eyes are locked on the sky.

Chuuya did not ordinarily take his time to admire little things like the night sky. But tonight was different.

Dazai had asked to stargaze with him. Normally, Chuuya would have declined. But Dazai had such a soft look on his face, like the face a child would give you if they wanted you to buy them a puppy.

Chuuya could not say no to his partner.
And he's very glad to have not. It was a marvelous sight.

"Beautiful..."

He feels Dazai's hand close around his.

"Yes, very beautiful."

"What constellation is that--"

Chuuya turns to Dazai, who is, in fact, not looking at the sky.

Dazai's eyes are on him.

Chuuya feels his face heat up.

"Wh-what? I--"

"You're beautiful, Chuuya."

"Yeah, I got that from what you said thirty seconds ago."

Dazai cups Chuuya's cheek gently.

"But you are. More beautiful than any star in the sky."

Chuuya closes his eyes tightly, unsure how to process his wave of emotions.

"Dazai, I-I..."

"I love you, Chuuya."

Chuuya rests his head on Dazai's shoulder, still not opening his eyes.

"Ask me to stargaze with you more, you hopeless, HOPELESS romantic."

Dazai laughs and hugs Chuuya.

"You got it, aibou. Now...could you say it back?"

"I don't know--"

"Please?"

Chuuya's shoulders sink. He sits up and stares into Dazai's eyes, the stars reflecting in those chocolate brown pools. It is more stunning than the stars itself. Because, tied into it, was the one Chuuya loves most.

"I love you, too, Osamu."
