The silence that the forest offered me was pretty relaxing. It makes you want to go to sleep but there was something about the forest's darkness that bothered me.
It was as if someone was watching me from the canopy of this green and dark paradise.
As I walked further and deeper, I sung a few songs that Rin had before. She was my favorite idol even after she died. Her legacy went on with the songs she left when she lived seventeen years ago.
They were all inspirational for me since her love songs were simply tear-jerking. She held a special place in my mind.
As I walked, I found a spot to sit at the bank of a lake hidden deep inside the forest where no one usually drifts about and I asked to build a dock for my use.
I sat at the edge of the dock and sat cross-legged as I watched the full moon and the fireflies reflect their lights at the water of the lake. It was quite enchanting.
I was humming for a whole hour and I saw the light from the horizon overtake that of the sun.
“You shouldn’t be here.” Someone behind me warned and to my surprise, I saw a good looking kid, around thirteen or so and her enticing brown eyes looked at me with concern. Her long black hair was left down with a Sakura clip holding her bangs out of her doll-like face.
“Why not?” I asked her and she pointed at the rising sun.
“They never appreciate humans near the lake when they sing for the forest.” I was confused. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat??
“Who are they and what are you trying to pull here? You think you’re not human?” I asked and the girl pointed back at the lake with an anxious look on her face.
I tried to focus my ears on the water and I can hear—
“Don’t! Their voices corrupt human souls!” She pulled me back and in a blink of an eye, I was next to my bike once more.
I was panting myself with shock. What the heck was that??!!
“What was that all about, kid?” I asked her and brushed my jeans.
She looked up and her eyes flashed red. Red…Red????????? OAO
“Woah!” I tried to look away but the redness of her eyes stayed. They were brown earlier. What the heck? My life is getting weirder and weirder.
She looked shocked herself a little later. “It didn’t work?” She muttered to herself.
“What didn’t work? What were those things at the lake? Why are you so damn fast? Did we teleport or something? Who are you?” I asked, paranoid and naïve of what was happening. “Moreover, what are you?”
“Stop asking so many questions at the child. She’ll end up crying.” The voice at my head told me and she was right. The girl was about to cry, probably scared because I just scolded at her.
I sighed and keeled down, making my eyes meet her now brown eyes. “I’m sorry, ‘kay? I’m just not used to these things.” I told her and gave her a hug, comforting her, attempting to make her stop from crying but something froze me then and there.
I tried screaming in pain but my voice was stuck at my throat and my consciousness was slowly slipping away as I feel her suck my blood from my neck.
I was trying my very best to process what was happening but my body was losing its strength or it just died down but I know very well that it was the girl’s fault.
“I’m sorry, miss but I haven’t fed in decades.” She told me when she pulled away from the hug. I happen to have just enough strength to speak, breathe and keep my eyes and ears open.
“Just answer my questions earlier. Who and what are you? What were those down by the lake?” I asked her in a gentle tone and slumped at the ground, leaning at my bike for support.
The girl bit her lip in worry and I can feel that she’s not trusting me just yet but why no? I mean she did drank my blood like a leech and she saved me from those things down the lake and I just gave her one of my random hugs…that makes us fair enough, right?
“I won’t spill anything.” I told her and tried to solve some parts of the puzzle in what I just experienced and I’m guessing that she’s a vampire and these days, humans believe what they see. It’s the age of learning through observing and if that doesn’t work? Well, she can always point out the facts or other people like her.
“Okay but you’ll have to take me in. My parents have abandoned me in these woods for decades and I have witnessed the World War two happen in front of my very eyes. The time they have left me to live alone made my existence meaningless.” She told me.
“I see. So my guess is true, you really are a vampire.” I told her and she nodded, her eyes turning red.
“You believe me?” She asked and I nodded.
“How could I not? You did suck my blood.” I pointed out and chuckled.
“Then I guess you can put the pieces together and there are many of us living among humans of this generation and witness the world change at such a fast pace.” She told me and sat next to me, letting her hair touch the ground and pool at the grass.
“But what are those things by the lake earlier?” I asked her but she bit her lip.
“Those were sirens. Creatures that have resided here ever since the Nazis have made an experiment on them, taking them from sea water to fresh water, trying to find out what was the effect of it.” She told me.
So that’s why their voice sound so beautiful yet heart shattering as I heard them earlier.
“I’m Nikki Red but you can call me Nikki.” She smiled at me. “I’m really sorry that I tried to kill you. I just needed sustenance to live longer. I don’t want to die without knowing what happened to the Queen.” She told me and pouted.
“What? You have monarchy ruling over your race? You guys are more sophisticated and elegant as I heard.” I told her and took a deep breath.
“Yes and our previous Queen was murdered as the news have told us and reached my ears. She was killed by the hybrid damphirs as I heard.” She told me. “Our Queen’s name is—“
“Miss Lenka.” Akaito. Akaito was in front of me. Why in the world did he know? How did he find me?
“Akaito, what are you doing here?” I asked him but he kept silent as he picked me off the ground. “Never mind that. Take Nikki with us.”
He turned to her and at a split second, I saw him glare at Nikki and the girl stepped back.
“But milady—“
“Do as I say.” I ordered him.
“If you say so.” He told me and rode the bike, I followed and rode behind him while Nikki took the spot at the front.
“I can’t believe I found a guy with a real red hair XD” Nikki said and I could only smile as I cling for my dear life as I felt myself slip away from being conscious.
Time check: 5:30 in the morning as I saw at Akaito’s watch.
What a pain in the ass. Classes…
Still…
I have not much Idea what just happened but I know one thing for sure.
One thing is: vampires are real. Nikki taught me that.
So many things to know yet the danger they hold is not a good sign.
